Would You Buy A New Dodge Ram Pickup Today?

2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Unable to meet its financial obligations, Chrysler is declaring a Chapter 11 bankruptcy to reorganize its debts and restructure the company in a partnership with Fiat.

These moves don't change the fact that the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 is one of the newest pickup trucks in the market with a powerful 390-horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi engine, up-to-date refined interior and the best ride quality of any unloaded half-ton. The 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickups have time-tested 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines under their hoods. The federal government has said it will stand behind the Ram's factory warranty.

So, the question is, if you were going to buy a brand new pickup truck today, would you buy a Dodge Ram?

There 2 reason what hold me back from buying this Truck (1) the motor run on v4 and v8 mode, don't like that (2) put a 6 speed Transmission in and get rid og the 5 speed.... But that just me and my opinion!!!! I believe if you just have the Hemi 5.7 engine with just running on V8 only.. If I wanted a V4 I go buy a Truck with 4 cylinder...That the only way Dodge and Chevy can get gas mileage is with that MDS . Ford get the mileage with just the V8, so why can't they!!!!!!

I would definetly buy a Dodge Ram 1500 if I had the money but I don't. And if I were to buy a truck I wouldn't even consider a garbage ford or a GM truck that always ends up in the shop getting fixed. I would buy the Dodge Ram 1500 without a doubt. And anyone else who thinks different can go play in traffic!

Although the new Ram is beautiful, I wouldn't have bought a Dodge yesterday! Show me the JD Power Awards! Go home...

i would NEVER buy a dodge truck, nothing against the engines, although i personally feel vortec and triton are just as good as hemi. Cummins definately is a very reliable diesel. the problem i have is with the transmissions. I have known several people that have only gotten maybe 65000 out of their transmissions. I have heard the new dodge trannys aren't all that good either, don't really know why they back them with a lifetime warranty, unless they are cheap to make. Several people have said that they only last 30000 in hard pulling, whereas ford and chevy will last at least three times that long.

Randy, good point on safety. Now tell us: in all the years of living in this world, how many times did you see the real-world application of side impacts applicable to pickups? Maybe I live in the wrong area, but I have never seen it.

Also, it is peculiar to read in the postings above that Dodge trucks are being bashed by those who never owned one. Yet, those who did/do drive a Ram, are quite happy with the vehicle... Go figure...

If I had the money, yes I would buy a new Ram. I currently own a 2001 Ram 1500, put 107,000 miles on it and have'nt had a single problem with it since day one.

And I think the fact that the 5.7 gets mileage about the same as fords 4.6 is one hell of an accomplishment regarless of how they did it. 1.1 liters larger and a loss of only 1 mpg! sounds good to me.

And Edmonds also recently did a comparison of the 09 Ram, 09 Silverado, 09 F-150 and 08 (identical to 09) Tundra. and the Ram took first place. As far as I could tell the Ram was second only to the Tundra in towing, and in real world use the difference (2-3 seconds in uphill towing) is negligible.

I have been asking the North American pick up truck manufacturers for the last 5 years, when they will be introducing a light duty diesel engine for their pickup trucks. They are available throughout Europe and around the world, and provide much better fuel mileage and durability. I don't need a 400 ft/lb machine, only looking for a P/U that pulls a small trailer, carries 5 adults and provides much better fuel economy. I am quite disappointment to recently read about the NA truck manufacturers delaying the intro of the light duty diesels. I believe they have misread the market interest for light diesel.

I have been buying Dodge Diesel trucks for the last 10 years. I have always liked the 5.9 Cummins motors. I have been able to avrage 25+ mpg. My 08 with the 6.7 is not near as good. No low end torque with this engine. I would like to see them go back to the 5.9

Would I buy a Dodge or any other Chrysler right now? Hell yeah. I currently own 3 Challengers, 2 Chargers,1 Magnum, and I have 11 brand new 09 Dodge Quad cabs and 5 sprinters. I run my own business and went completely to Dodge. My wife loves her Chrysler 300. The Hemi was a smart move for Chrysler and it has brought them far. If not for the Hemi and the CTD ( Cummins Turbo Diesel) they would have failed long before now. How many Challengers do you find sitting on a new dealers lot? They sell within a week of being unloaded. The bankruptcy doesn't bother me as it is a typical business move. If they could get rid of the greedy ass, power hungry UAW then they would be fine. Union workers defend the unions. But have you ever noticed what they make hourly compared to what most other jobs pay. Just because you build cars doesn't mean you should make $30 dollars an hour. Most people are happy making half that and living a decent life. UAW employees buy new vehicles more often than anyone and get them at a deep discount. I know this for a fact as my brother is a greedy UAW GM employee. I live within miles of the GM plant is Spring Hill tn and the employees go to work dressed nice and come away from work the same way. Most never broke a sweat in 8 hours. If they did it was from walking around. As long as Chrysler is in business even with Fiat at the helm I will never buy a junk GM product. Ford would be my only other choice. I tried Gm products for my business. Most were junked before 100,000 miles with either bad motors or transmissions. I have never had a problem of any kind with the dodges. Fords were good but not great. Given another couple of years and Dodge will have the truck market with their innovations. Dodges have more power and reliability than any of the others tried. Yes we even tried Nissan and Toyota.
