Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Baja 1000 Movie Premieres June 23
What does one wear to the Hollywood premiere of a movie about the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor? That’s the question we’ll have to answer a few hours from now when we attend the debut of “Raptor – Born in Baja.”
The documentary was filmed in Mexico last year during the grueling Baja 1000. A special race-modified version of the Raptor, called the Raptor R, participated in the race as a kind of ultimate off-road engineering shakedown test.
The Raptor R uses mostly stock components that will come on the production 2010 Raptor -- which goes on sale within the next month -- including the transmission, brakes, axles, rear spring hangers and frame. It's powered by a specially calibrated 500-horsepower version of Ford's new 6.2-liter V-8 engine, and it sports a beefed-up Fox Racing suspension. We rode in the race truck’s third seat a few months back, during the Terrible’s 250 at Primm.
Bud Brutsman, the man responsible for several military documentaries and the show “Overhaulin’,” is the film’s executive producer.
Follow us tonight on Twitter as we report from the event. If you want to see the film yourself, it debuts on the Speed channel on Sunday, July 12, at 4 p.m. Eastern.
One thing we won't be wearing: a catheter.
