What Others Say: Automobile Magazine's Long-Term 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Automobile's Long-Term 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

While it's one thing to extensively test and compare new pickup trucks during first drives and Shootouts, it's quite another to live with and evaluate a truck for several months or longer, as our friends at Automobile Magazine are doing with their long-term 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 half-ton. They've just posted their first 'Four Seasons' report after letting the fully-loaded Ram float amongst their editorial staff for the past two months.

The initial verdict? All who've driven the Ram seem quite happy with its excellent utility and highway performance. The biggest gripe is the lack of a rear back-up camera, considering the Ram's awfully steep $52,230 price tag.

Perhaps the best gauge of the collective opinion of Automobile: We hear the Ram has racked up the most miles in the shortest period of time of any vehicle in their current Four Seasons fleet except the $100,000-plus BMW 7-Series.

i want one

I can't believe how expensive that is, the Ram 3500 4x4 quad cab laramie is $2000 cheaper!

Got a 2009 GMC D-Max 4x4 3500 way cheaper than that Ram.... LOL But I really wanted a Ram, but they wouldn't work a deal with me, So I grab the GMC. Ford is nice, but the Scorpion wasn't out yet....

yeah the crew cab is pretty much 20k over the quad. I prefer the quad anyway feels the same and its my kind of price with the features I need when I choose to get one in the future or not.

Dodges are soft.

Considering the absolute horrid residual value of ALL chrysler products right now and the fact that many of them are going for a 1/3 of what they would normally go for at auction, you would have to be a complete moron to buy a new Dodge right now. Half off at a closing dealer being the only exception.

I can get a LOADED Platinum F150 for way less than that price and the ride quality isn't all that different.

I would expect a lower price for a truck that comes with a car suspension.

ford has yet to build a car to rival the chrysler 300c and only the pontiac g8 and some cadillacs might rival or surpass it. after owning all three U.S. brands in the last 10 years i have been satisfied with all of them. you never pay sticker for any one of them.....unless you have a low credit score. if you dont like dodge dont buy it. i like them all. its going to be a dodge laramie or a gmc denali for me.

hey poopy! are you mad about something. motortrend already said the ford was the truck of the year (by a small margin but car and driver said something else). common everday vehicles are not investments, and they all loose their value. i tell you what..you go buy your fort platinum and take it back in one month and youll see that if you put 10-15% down you will owe more than the truck is worth.

the Fusion owns the 300c.

the new taurus will own all... its ford!!

Dodge/Chrysler vehicles have the lowest quality and reliability ratings of any of the automobile companies. The resale value is a reflection of that fact. Ford is the only one of the "Domestics" that has improved their quality and reliability to match the Japanese automakers. I'm not brand loyal. I'll buy the best product that I can afford.
I don't think Government's should be bailing out companies that sell junk to the public.

i like ford trucks but their cars are boring just like buicks except for the mustang.ask any auto tech and they will tell you about working on a ford. my son has a ford contour and it stays broken down. as a matter of fact its broken down right now and he has purchased a dodge avenger and has about 45000 miles on it with no problems. my coworker had a taurus and put two transmissons in it in less than 100k. i never had a bad gm or chrysler.

I own a 09 ram trx4 crew with hemi its the best truck I have ever drove I get 17 mpg thats good for 390 hp maybe someday ford will finally have a engine this fun to drive. I had a Ford with 4.6 engine it only got 13 mpg and had 150 less hp. Car and Driver and Edmunds.com say this is best truck on the road I agree.

Oh man, why is this Ram truck so expensive (?) - you could get two young used trucks in a good condition for this price!!!

Back up camera, seriously? Learn to drive and you dont need one!!

If you haven't driven the Ram with the Hemi, drive one. It was funnest pickup I have ever driven. Fantastic sounding engine, too. I can see why it racked up the miles during long-term testing.
