The 2010 Ram Heavy Duty is Motor Trend's Truck of the Year

Motor Trend has selected the new Ram Heavy Duty as its 2010 Truck of the Year, in a unanimous decision by MT's judges.

The Ram HD, updated for 2010 and previously known as the Dodge Ram, received all new sheetmetal and a vastly improved interior. It carries over its well-regarded and powerful 6.7-liter Cummins I-6 diesel and 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 gas engines.

Other contenders up for the honor included the new Ford F-150 SVT Raptor high-speed off-road pickup, Ford Transit Connect van and 4.6-liter V-8 Toyota Tundra.

I drive big highway diesel rigs for a living for the past 23 years, as well as my father for the last 50 years. For personal use vehicle trucks we drive Ram/Cummins trucks because they are tough, reliable and look like a small Rig. Who cares about GM and Ford coming out with 400 hp diesel motors when reliability goes down as the power goes too high. My Cummins can pull harder at a lower rpm than GM or Ford and i hope Cummins doesn't up the horsepower ratings much more so they can keep getting decent fuel economy and run forever. 10-4 good people.

Rest in peace , Chrysler?????.. This is just a start to their claiming Number 1 in the diesel truck segment pal. Don't be so jelous.

Miras get a clue.

If the whole Dodge line up of trucks is made in mexico how is my RAM 1500 built here in the USA. St. Louis plant, so please educate yourself before you make yourself look dumb next time.

John McCain=Fail. He is 100% moron whose only buisness experience comes though his wife. He has no idea how long Chrysler is going to be around.

Chysler has been down before. Anybody who thinks the company that has the best current truck line up line up is going to fail you are wrong. The 1500 much better then anything on the market. The HD much better then anything on the market. Plus in the next year they release a SUV (Jeep Grand Cherokee) which will be better then anything on the market. Plus 2 fullsize cars (Charger, 300) that will be better then anything on the maket. With these cars coming, and the impovements they will be making to the rest of the lineup this year, released as 2011 models. This company is going to be around for a long time yet.

wow, lets shed some light on this RAM Brand thing from an insider. When FIAT came in they looked at the sales of the Ram, Dodge cars and Grand Caravan/Town and Country. They found that Dodge has mostly sold Trucks, Vans, and cars in that order based on volume. reliability surveys were done and Trucks were best with vans second and cars last. What they noticed was that Rams and cars were designed by the same people. Knowing that Ram could stand on it's own they decided to seperate the truck people from the car people thus making the car people more responsible for better design and quality instead of riding on the coat tails of Ram sales. This will make Dodge/Chrysler build better cars for all of us. This theory was tested a few years back and all of a sudden we saw Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger both have been very popular and very reliable cars. Let's hope that this brilliant idea works. Also remember that even the guy that owns the local hardware store in all of the towns that you and I live in makes every single decision based on profit or loss. Without better design and quality you will always have the latter.

Chrysler isn't going anywhere. Fiat is not Daimler, and Fiat depends on Chrysler just as much to enter into the US. Dodge is here to stay; why else would Ralph Guiles be Dodge President along with the news of the contiuation of the Viper? Ram is going to go places. It will be a total truck brand with concentration simply on trucks: from lifestyles to light/medium/heavy duty to commercial and class 8. Fiat owns Iveco so see platforms being incorporated. Also, Fiat owns Case International and New Holland, so begin to see some brand synergy between Ram and the agricultural business. Chrysler...well Fiat already is thinking about dropping the Lancia naming and calling them Chryslers in Europe. Not going anywhere.

Chrysler is here to stay. Fiat is not Daimler and is too dependent on Chrysler as well to make it in the US market. Talks are already about Fiat dropping the Lancia name and just using Chrysler. Why would Ralph Guiles (the man designer) become President of Dodge? Why would the Viper get the OK for its contiuation? Under Ralph Guiles Dodge will become a full sports car brand. Ram is going places, why, because it will a dedicated truck division. From lifestyle, to light/medium/heavy duty to commercial and class 8. They will also be getting a light duty Cummins (only reason they didn't was because of Daimler fiasco). Fiat owns Iveco, so see some platforms shared. Fiat also owns Case International and New Holland, so you will also see a syncing of Ram and the agricultural business too. Fiat's Magneti Marelli is also who designed Ford's SYNC techology with Microsoft. Once again, Chrysler is going no where.

Dodge Ram is the most reliable truck around, and that i've ever owned and that my employee's drove.I have receipts for all from day 1 ,and the Dodge's are the most reliable..

5-Dodge Ram's '99,2002,2006, New Saturday 2010 2500 Diesel & a personal 2010 Dodge Ram 1500,best trucks ever..
2 -Ford's 2001,2007
3 -GM's 1999,2003,2008
2 -Toyota's,2002,2007
1- Nissan,2006

I have a small company and being a non brand loyal guy, until now it looks like !! I decided to buy a bunch of different trucks to see which were the best...until now, every year or so I buy another truck .This year I am spending more, frankly I have to 3 trucks are shot. These are driven by my employee's and I tell them not to beat on them but you know how it goes,at least body/interior wise they look after them. Some are 1500's,2500's and 3500's 3 are Diesel 99 Dodge dually,01 Ford dually and 03 GMC dually.

I dont know who says Dodge has bad transmissions, they are the only ones I never had to get rebuilt !!! My Uncle who also owned a small company said in 1994 only there was something in the trans they changed for 94, a $5 part and it failed so,later models were changed and are bullet proof....He still uses his 94 Dodge in his company. Also I never changed ball joints or anything on the Dodge !! Toyota,Chevy yes !! It helps that 90% of my drivers are 45-62 years old and dont beat to much on them, but that doesnt explain the problems with the non Dodge trucks.

I am going to replace some of my H/D trucks with new Dodge Diesel Dually's,Nissan and Toyota's(both Toy's shot 02 rod knock,07at Toyota for a rear end and leaking torque conv. 41k) with Ram 1500 & 2500's.I may keep the Dodge/Ford 3/4 Ton diesels for new hire's shortly,But the Toy and Niss are gone, weakest I found for any use,my 2002 Ram 1500 with a 4.7 has 155k and never touched that truck, does alot of towing more so than the Nissan and Toyota ever did and never missed a beat !!My employee who is assigned to the truck now ,a 24 year old wants to buy it even.

This is a very nice looking truck but ford has the best heavy duty truck on the market today.

Its a great truck but nothing compare to the best. (Ford)

What! NO GM Trucks mentioned?

Nice try putting Ram badges on a Super Duty

Here is a report that's good for Ford and very bad for Dodge:
According to the 2009 Avoider study (a study that researches reasons people don't purchase particular vehicles) a rapidly increasing reason consumers give for avoiding a specific car brand is uncertainty over the company's future. Nearly one in five respondents who said that they avoided a particular brand said they did so because they weren't sure of the brand's viability. That reason has risen to number four, just behind styling, price, and perceived reliability. Chrysler, Dodge, Pontiac, Saturn, and Hummer were identified as the five domestic brands most often avoided due to uncertainty over their futures. Ford brands, meanwhile, have seen their avoidance numbers decline. http://www.trucktrend.com/features/news/163_news091216_us_car_buyers_avoid_brands_with_uncertain_futures/index.html

@brandon507 - my apologies. I should of stated that my post was an exerpt from the TruckTrend story. It isn't a theory of mine. It is what JD Power discovered throught their research. like I said, more bad news for Dodge, and conversely good news for Ford.

A man i know here n.c. has three ford dualy trucks with thepowerstroke diesel engine well he drove up in a dodge. He say he had to start using his dodge to start pulling his loads because at least one ford was in the shop every week. Now he"s driving all dodges

sorry mr.reaver75 dodge is the best company out there and 100 miles is good enough to give the "king" his crown

Way to go Ram!
