GM Committed to Winding Down Hummer

Gm-hummer-560

Despite last-minute efforts to save Hummer, General Motors announced this morning to its dealers and employees that it plans to move forward with permanently shuttering the well-known off-road nameplate.

"GM's position is to wind down the brand," Hummer spokesman Nick Richards told PickupTrucks.com Tuesday morning.

In February, GM’s planned sale of the Hummer brand to China’s Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. was called off after the deal failed to win approval from Chinese regulators.

Despite efforts to find a new buyer for Hummer, no suitable matches could be found.

GM says it will honor all warranties and provide service and parts through other GM dealers. This is the same process that Saturn and Pontiac went through in the past year since GM’s restructuring.

Good riddance!

Damn shame they never put the HX into production.

Darn shame as they might of actually been the only ones to give Jeep some real competition!

Here you go Joe!!!!!

I wonder when Fiat will wind down sales of Ram? Oh, wait... the marketplace is all ready doing that.

Maybe GM can try to wind down their debt... I guess you can't go bankrupt on the US government!

I don't why everybody is so far up Fords ASSS!!!
They took a 2 billion dollar loan in 2007. And yes they did pay back, so is GM...

GM should have renamed the vehicle when it took it over.Such an offensive name has no place on any vehicle,on America's roads.
Imagine a family following one on the road...and a youngster asking dad...."Dad,whats a HUMMER?"...
If mom isnt around, dad might just reply "Its what you dont get once you're married...."

Or,ranks right up there with Yugo,Merkur and Edsel...a short lived flash-in-the-pan.
I'm just surprised that Malcolm Bricklin wasnt involved with it somehow.

Jeep's only competish is the Ford Raptor.

Raptor is a dud until it gets the 6.2L.

FYI, The Raptor already has the 6.2L

@madmax - there is a big difference between a 2 billion loan that got paid back and a company going bankrupt and still needing 42 billion and counting to stay afloat!
By the way learn how to spell. It's hard to take anyone serious knowing that they'd not make the first round of : Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader"
@Paul- your story was funny but the origin of the name is" In 1992, AM General began selling a civilian version of the M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Hum-Vee) vehicle to the public under the brand name "Hummer".

if it wanst for the stupid media....and obama and his future gas mileage standars....

GM hummer
ford raptor
dodge power wagon/jeep

poor hummer....

Jeep would have competition if the japanese had brought there rigs.. Patrol, Land cruiser, pajero.... to name a few

Good then Toyota will win the Baja 1,000 (Stock-Mini Class) this year and not lose by mere seconds!!!

hehehe...

Anyway, GM just posted another huge lose, when will this end and how many more vehicles will they have to cut?

Captain Ahab: From hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee. Ye damned Hummer!

thanks for your article, like your blog very much, well done
