New Chevy Silverado Ad Campaign Will Highlight Brand Loyalty
General Motors plans to introduce a new advertising campaign for the Chevrolet Silverado in October that focuses on the strong loyalty truck owners have for their pickups and the brand rivalry that ensues with other pickup drivers, especially Ford, according to a report in AdAge.
The campaign is one of the first marketing efforts led by Joel Ewanick, GM’s new marketing chief. Ewanick spent three years at Hyundai, where he helped the Korean carmaker nearly double its share of the U.S. auto market. He had a brief three-month stint at Nissan before arriving at GM.
"There's really two big camps," Ewanick said of Chevy and Ford pickups. "We're going to find interesting, creative and funny ways to take advantage of the fact that there's really the Hatfields and McCoys."
Another change in direction: Longtime Silverado spokesman and former NFL player Howie Long is out as spokesman. So no more poking fun at heated steering wheels and “man-steps.”
We’ll be watching just to see if they call the trucks Chevys.

Mike Rowe? Perfect spokesman. Chicks dig him, guys wanna be him.
I still can't afford a new Ford, damn!
OXI,
In most markets/regions Toyota is the only truck you can buy !
And in some other regions they only sell Toyota,Nissan,Mitshubishi trucks..No American trucks are sold in those regions around the globe ,in Europe if you are rich you can ship over an American full size truck,but those are a high class status vehicle their !
I sold Toyota here and I know what is and went on in the world ,many trips abroad,and dealings with execs !
Toyota 's have a harsh ride...Land Cruisers bounce you around at 40 mph on the highway into the next lane...the pre 90's models do !! As does my all original beige 83 Toyota 4x ,22r,33,000 mile truck that is like new a old lady owned it from 83-01 when I bought it when it came in on a trade..
Jeep Cherokee is very popular 4x machine...mid 1980's -2001 models...They have lots of room to carry gear around,smoother ride than many Toyota's !! Around here there are many more Cherokee 4x's than Toyota and the reliability of the Jeep is untouchable ! People love the 4.0 !
This comes from a former Toyota salesman,sold them bought new Toyota's for many years..I just dont drink the Toyota is the best Kool-Aid !!
There is a reason you only see Toyota's in other countries..mainly poor,terror ridden ,because Toyota is the only manufacturer to sell them there in a large number(no american trucks are sold there)..its like in other regions of the world ,even North America Toyota gives low/cheap prices to taxi companies,fleet sales ect..to boost sales !
Oxi,I love vehicles and own many,I do own 3 Toyota products,2 Chrysler products and 3 GM products,a Lincoln,Along with my wifes new'10 Mercedes GLK 350.
@RANDY,
It's not my problem that Toyota's are sold in just about every nation in the world. Maybe the U.S. companies should get off their lazy rears and travel the world more to try and sell their products abroad. They are just content to reap the fat profits on their full size trucks to care about future sales?
My 86 Toyota with 35's on her was suprisenly not as rough as I thought it would be. It was the IFS that helped.
My new Tacoma is smoother than the Cherokee on and off-road. I have been in both and the IFS will always win that battle. Granted the Hi-Lux and older Toyota pickups were sprung with torsion bars, the new Taco's are not bad with coil sprung fronts.
The only issue is they need to come with Bilstein's up front. You do not want to be to loose on the front end. The Billey's stiffen it up just right for larger tires.
IFS will always be the smoother ride on and off-road, especially with coil springs, t-bars are still a bit stiff.
And yes their is another good reason Toyota's are sold in just about all of those 3rd rate nations, it's practically the only small pikcup that can handle that type of un-paved terrain you see there!
Now I am not BS you either on that statement!
I lived most of my life in Australia, and Toyota Landcruisers and Nissan Patrols are what everyone has because anything other than that are too expensive. I agree the big 3 need to globalize their pickups. There is a demand outside of North America, but they have to keep the price about what it is here. Ford sold the F-series off and on in RHD version in Australia, though it was never as good as the US version. It was about $80,000+ too. Right now, it is not being sold there through Ford Australia, so you have to pay $140,000 from www.vdc.com.au to have it bought, shipped, converted and complianced. A lot of people will pay $60-80k, but won't pay $140k. People still talk about the Landcruiser like it's tough, but the last good one for off-road was the 80 series, which had solid axles. The 100 series was crap.
Yea Ford took a loan so what? They have been taking low interest loans from the government off and on for years now along with Chrysler and GM to? What's your point? Sometimes the government offers them a loan to persuade them to do something they want to see get done, such as the recent loan to accelerate the development of electric batteries in EV autos.
Key difference -
Loan can be offered by a bank or the government with the intent to pay it back in a timely manner for a company in good standing.
Bailout - Loan from the government because you screwed up royally and no bank will even think about offering you a loan let alone a pot to pee in.
Good God. I'm never coming to this site again. You all sound so stupid. It's a change of ad campaigning, it's not like they're doing anything wrong or revolutionary. How is it a waste of money? It's the same money they would be spending except they'll have a better campaign going. Ford has better engines, sure. For the first time in a decade. They are at the beginning of a new engine line and GM is getting ready to begin theirs. That's the way this industry works, one gets ahead, then the other, then the other catches back up.
Oxi- The Frontier is the best small truck on the market for someone who wants a truck to work and live with. The Tacoma comes with less power, a cheaper interior and a higher starting price.
You all need to step back and just look at the crap you spew. You sound ridiculous, uneducated and rude. GM has loyal customers just like everyone else, throwing around insults and false words won't change that.
I'm done with this site.
@Alex:
"People still talk about the Landcruiser like it's tough, but the last good one for off-road was the 80 series, which had solid axles."
The straight axles do not make it a stronger truck!
I have seen independent suspensions in desert racing and on military trucks handle much better than straight axles!
This myth of straight axles are stronger is a joke. You can build independent suspensions that work just fine off-road. Just ask the desert racers and the U.S. military!
@G-street
Having less power does not make it an inferior truck. It's not all about power!
Interior is a matter of personal opinion because I like the simplicity of the Tacoma's interior, no bull crap stuff you find on today's full-size trucks!
Hint: I know how to read a map and a compass and heated seats are g/y!!!
