PUTC's 2011 Truck of the Fair Is ...

Truck of the Fair End II

No doubt the 2011 PickupTrucks.com/Cars.com Truck of the Fair competition will fan the flames of debate for years to come, having both Ford and Chevy fans making accusations and calling for cell-phone investigations. But all the votes have been tabulated in our four-week State Fair of Texas texting campaign, and a winner has been declared.

We’ve seen voting fluxuate quite a bit over the month, with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 taking the early lead. In both of our previous updates, voting was steady and consistent with the GM product outperforming Ford’s F-150 by a good distance.

But all that changed over the past 10 days. Maybe all the Ford fans waited until the final days of the fair to show up, texting their votes for their favorite truck.  In the end, the F-150 took the lead, eventually pulling away from the competition by a healthy margin.

Here are the Top five finishers:

Fifth Place:  Ford F-250

Fourth Place:  Ram 1500

Third Place:  Nissan Frontier

Runner-Up:  Chevy Silverado 1500

2011 Truck of the Fair Winner:  2012 Ford F-150

Oooops... Sorry Chevy Fans (myself included)

Great Job Ford!!!

Where is Bob?

LMFAO!

As I would have predicated based upon market share.

just think of all the texting bob did and it did not even help LMFAO

When it said surprise, I was thinking Honda ridgeline!

What?
I thought Chevy was winning.
Bob must of wore out his cell phone.

@Lou,

He sure did with his Free texting! LMFAO!

What a total failure!

Wait a minute.. Ford won? I thought Mike Levine Quit PUTC?

Once again the truth comes out...

Ford rules!

Not only for the win but having two spots in the top 5.

God Job Ford!

Congratulations, Mike Levine. Clearly you went to work for the best company.

Sorry ford fans, but "The truck of the Fair" award results are being thrown out because of voter fraud. Yep, it's true, ford fans were horrified that there favorite truck was getting beat by GM AGAIN! so they did what they normally do when getting beat, they cheated!

So the results are now null and void and just like a Miss America pagent winner when losing her crown, the award will be handed down to the runner up and in this case that means the Chevy Silverado is the winner. Sorry ford fans you lose again!

What happened? All of the; F-Series, Ram, Sierra, and Silverado owners, working at the Tacoma/Tundra plant, are not supporting the Texas assembled Japanese pickups?

U.S.A.-#1

Seems to me like texas has some bad taste when it comes to trucks.

@Michigan Bob,

You are pathetic!

I wouldnt be surprisd if Lou and Frank were up all-night texting they're butts off just to see chevy lose...

@Nick-Toons,

Us grown men have better things to do! I really don't care.

Cry all you want!

So these results are supposed to change my mind about buying a Chevy??....... Yea, Don't think so.

GO GM!

@Nick-Toons -
1. I doubt I could afford texting to the USA.
2. I don't care about who wins.
3. Bob might be able to lend you a purse full of tissue if you don't have one to cry into.

OH NO! Frank doesn't like me or any of my posts. That's because Frank is a flaming ford fan and he probably pleasures himself with all the ford posters he has on his walls and celing in his bedroom.

Poor frank, did we hurt your wittle feelings frank??? Just put your thumb back in your mouth frankie, it will be alright.

@Bitchigan Bob,

Step off my Nuts already!

@ Bob - looks like all that money spent on texting and anger management has failed again.

@Lou

"1. I doubt i could afford to text to the USA." - Lou,

Until you live in the U.S, You're nothing but just another piece of trash in the dumpster... have a great day.

Comments on every topic should be disabled, because it seems that 95% of people on here are pathetic. If you dont have anything usefull to say; don't.

I hope you people are not grown men.

this is pathetic, piss poor posting from grown men you guys should be ashamed of yourselves

Good thing I wasn't there. I would have suggested that "None of the above" was the best vote possible.

If my phone hadn't burst into flames from the sheer friction generated by my super sonic fingers and thumbs the Chevy would have won! But I guess Ford had to cheat by having their cheerleaders re-vote a bunch of times to win. That's Ford's way, cheating!

i thought Chevy was the only one that cheated since they cheated taxpayers out of billions of dollars

Wow...... is all I got to say, this isn't Mexico..... whya ll the cussing in Spanish?. Sad day for PUTC. Grow up already, you know who you are. The incessant bickering of brands has to be driving people away from this blog/forum/whatever it is.

Kudos to Ford. I am suprised that anyone didn't know Ford would win. I mean, they have the most tech-packed drivetrain and offer the most for the money, if you can afford it. Again, crown the winner, be happy with what you drive, and for the love of god...grow up.

@Red 4 X4 US Pickups tend to be generic here. Few would know the difference between the brands or even know the brand names. The intense brand loyalty displayed in the US/Canada is unknown. On the other hand Ford and Holden supporters( Much more light hearted) display their loyalty at V8Supercar races.
If it is not one of these:

Then there is little interest here.

hahaha sorry chevy u were sooo close....NOT.. GO FORD!!!

@Nick-Toons - aka Bob
Any negative comment from you is greatly appreciated.

Robert Ryan:

You guys on the other side of the planet seem to inject a bit more "practicality" in you purchases than us Americans. I would love to have the same trucks you guys have (Diesel Ford Ranger, Colorado, Hilux, Navarro, triton) even if they were priced nearly the same as our full size tanks.

Not everyone needs an Abrams Tank (Current Full Size trucks in the USA, to which probably half of them are driven by yuppies for vanity status) to drive around in and haul pellets for the stove in the winter.

The reason so many full size truck owners get pissed when someone bags on large trucks being mall crawlers is because they know damn good and well its true. Most full size trucks have all that tacky pep boys chrome all over them, it gives them that feel good notion so everyone can see them and cower down at the parking lot to their massive flashy road glamour.....either that or the heft is so large in the USA that many could not FIT into anything smaller than a full size Crew cab, otherwise they may be reclining into the back window trying to back away from the steerng wheel.

Why do you guys feed this troll "Michigan Bob". He clearly never knows what he's talking about. He only embarress GM with out knowing it so i thinks its funny. Good job F-150 you are number 1 for a reason.

@Mike S -
Bob is actually a brilliant pitchman from Ford Motor Co.
Reverse psychology.
Bash everyone else making the brand you pretend to like, look really, really bad.

@Red_4x4,

Really dude, you can do better than that. SML!

@Red 4X4. The difference between current US sull Size and the "midzize" ones here is shrinking dramatically. As as Heft goes we have many people who like their large 6000lb SUV's. Unlike the US they like to take them off road as well

As far as Pickup pricing goes. I saw this article and it gives a clue why GM wants to introduce the Colorado into a "dead market" in the US:
http://www.autonews.com/article/20111021/BLOG06/111029976/1499&sectioncat=product
"Hresko, in the interview earlier this year, suggested mid-sized pickups likely would be a tough sell. After all, bigger is better in the pickup world. But for an automaker to meet tougher CAFE regulations, some of these buyers would need to shift to a mid-sized pickup.
How? Make full-sized trucks less attractive to some buyers.
One possibility: Raise the price of full-sized pickups. The intent is to push buyers not requiring a full-sized pickup for their job into the lower-priced and more fuel efficient alternative, a mid-sized truck.
Another possibility is eliminating the wide range of luxury options available on full-sized trucks, such as leather seats and high-end navigation systems, limiting the "sky's the limit" luxury features to mid-sized models.
The full-sized pickups arriving after 2020 might be marketed much as pickups were in the 1950s and 1960s: basic workhorses for tradesman, farmers, ranchers, construction workers and government employees"

Never trust society to vote on something period!

Society equals dumb!

Frank: lol, no, that is my best...sorry I couldn't translate it into your mother tongue though......

Robert Ryan: God, I hope so...get back to the real truck roots....not these psuedo-contractor road ornaments.

Nothing worse than going to get into your vehicle and some slack-jawed redneck has crammed his Abrams Tank in beside you at a parking spot so close that an anorexic supermodel could not fit in between them, let alone open the door!

@Mike S,

Stop congratulating a truck. You OBVIOUSLY have no friends.

I wore the buttons off of my cell phone and house phone voting for the F-150 because I hate Bob and GM so much. I shouldn't be so childish but I will do anything for my beloved Ford.

@Frank,

I have touch screen phone. I don't waste my time on polls like these. I am not even from Texas! Thank GOD!

@Red_4x4

It's not the mother tongue, it was the unintelligent post. You sound like Bob!

@Bob,

I didn't know you can Text from a house phone.

FAIL!

I temporarily moved to Texas so I could vote in this pole multiple times.

@Buy American...you forgot the Baja California (Mexico plant) that produces access and single cab Tacomas. They can't text down there...or if they can, too expensive!

wow that is a surprise to me. I was sure Chevy would win.

@Michigan Bob: Contrary to what you you think, I think Frank likes (your posts) He needs a good laugh! He realizes that you most be jerking his chain, cause you just don't get it! Like every time GM loses you still say Chevy/GMC wins! You can't be real, Frank must think! You sometimes remind me of a character in a Jim Carrey movie where he rides to Colorado on a moped, what movie was that, ya'll? What do you mean Ford cheated? So more Ford people texted then Chevy people, and you weren't there, but of course you urged all Chevy fans to vote. How's that differant? Atleast a good truck won, and the sales reflect the F-150 winning. Right now Ford has done the most to change their trucks to better them, and Ram getting with it. GM and Toyota? Not much change lately. Toyota was on it 4 years ago, but now they still say "the truck thats changing it all" That's old.

ford won fair and square. nice job ford. go ram. NOT GO CHEVY AND GMC. ram should outsell chevy

fyi, it's 'fluctuate'.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fluctuate

Just sayin'...

@ford lover,

"ram should outsell chevy" - ford lover

Well.... IT DOESN'T!
