2013 Ford FX4 Pacetruck Ready for Hot Laps

2013-FX4-Pace-Truck-3 II
Making its debut at Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Race at Michigan International Raceway, this new 2013 Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCrew will be the pace truck for the big race.

This particular pace truck sports the new 2013 grille and HID headlamps, as well as an EcoBoost engine under the hood.

Also new for the latest FX4 model is standard hill descent control and standard SYNC with MyFord, a 4.2-inch multi-function information display that provides enhanced displays of audio and climate-control functions. The 2013 F-150 FX4 is also available with SYNC with MyFord Touch, which includes an all-new, large 8-inch LCD color touch screen mounted in the center stack. This package adds a media hub with two USB ports, an SD card reader and audio/video input jacks.

Mark Fields, Ford’s President of The Americas, will serve as pace car driver for the second time in as many years. Check for race coverage and times with your local service provider.

You could clear a lot of traffic on the freeway with that truck.

You would think an FX2 would be more of a race truck, what do you need 4x4 to do laps with?

^^^ Why do you need a truck to do laps? Why do you need to do laps? You just end up where you started from.

why do they need a super crew? a nice reg cab FX-2 with the 5.0 V-8 would have a lot more in common (and thats not much either) than the barge they have right here! yea a sharp 6' bed reg cab with a smooth cover on the bed would be a lot sportier than a SC! the only thing is you can't get the Ecco-Boost engine with the 6' bed reg cab, but oh well the V-8 sounds a lot nicer anyway.

best hill descent control is a manual tranny and as for myford toruch Ram already has UCONNECT!

GUTS GLORY RAM.

4x4 crewcab seems to be overkill. You will never use 4 wheel drive in a pace car. How about a regular cab with a bed cover and either a EcoBoost or a 5.0 V-8. EcoBoost with lettering on the truck advertising EcoBoost would have been a nice advertisement. That would have been a smarter way to promote the power and fuel efficiency of this new motor in a period of rising fuel prices and an uncertain energy future.

Mechanic, I agree with the Uconnect, but it's just to bad you an't get it on a work truck, and it is so costly! on the Ford you can get mytouch on an XL if you want, to get ucon. on a Ram you need to get the higher level luxo barge, and you even need to get it with nav. with Ford F-150,250,350ect. you can get work solutions packages on any level, an it is still cosly, but not as much as on a Chrysler product. On the GM prod you can get On-Star stand. on most, and for a couple hun on there work trucks, it isn't as fancy as the others, but it gets the job done, I have it in our Silverado and use it all the time, the only cost is a few $'s every month, and I believe that is the same with the Ford and Chrysler systems.

Holy crap these comments lol. Why Use a Corvette or Charger for a pace car when it would make more logical sense to use a Smart Car?

Am I the only one that’s actually HAPPY to see a 4x4 SUPERCREW out on the race track?!?! I might actually watch Sunday’s NASCAR just to see this thing in motion; I know how fast the Ecoboost can be! No, it’s not overkill its perfect... After all, if you’re going to put a truck out on the race track, then at lease let it look like A TRUCK! Go big or go home lol

I waiting to see the new 2013 grill! :)

I agree that using a SuperCrew is overkill for a pace truck, especially adding the 4x4 to it. Flat unnecessary and wasteful spending.

Actually, it's nothing but a Ford advertisement that probably cost the track itself nothing, as evidenced by the fact that Ford's American president is driving for the Sprint Cup race. Sheesh! Honestly, I could see it serving pace for the CampingWorld truck series, but for cars?

Ok, it's big. It's comfortable. It may even be fast. But it's not a car.

man some of you really need to just chill out. why use a 4x4 supercrew? Why the heck not..... seriously. chill out. as for the GUTS GLORY RAM guy, gtfo you're getting annoying. ram sucks.

It sure does look fast in the photo.

@06FordFX4, If ram sucks then ford swallows.

I would like to see a regular cab 2WD with the 6.2 under the hood! Now that would be awesome!

I like how everyone is complaining that it's a 4x4, haha.

I doubt they put that much thought into it. More than likely they just grabbed a truck out of their press/show vehicle fleet, slapped some vinyl/strobes on it, and sent it out there.

The only way a ford can get to be out front in nascar LOL!!! Bring in the ford pace truck/car!!!! We gotta have ford lead some how in the sport LOL!!!!

@ JOHNNY DOE
Yeah look who won the Daytona 500, the Super Bowl of Nascar.... Matt Kenseth in a Ford.... ingnorant comment at its best

Nothing new from the Local Troll!

Ford does it again! They just keep pulling away from the competition.

Maybe it's not a 4x4. Maybe they just put a vinyl decal to make you think it's a 4x4.

Just like that decal that's says Built Tough.
We all know fords are not built tough.

@Truckerman Whats this we crap?? Fords have always been built tough, just look at all the job sites and road construction crews, 9 times outta 10 the Ford is there as they have been in driveways and farms everywhere. Must be something that keeps them on top of everyone else. Built FORD tough is just one them, I know mine is 15 yrs old and still does anything I ask it too. No rust, interior looks new and she runs strong. I get compliments on it everyday and I plan to keep it for a long time yet. Everyone has they're favorites but mine is BUILT FORD TOUGH!!!!!!

I believe ford trucks are more popular because of their payload
and towing numbers are higher than the competition. With J2807, If they choose to participate will change that. I also have noticed in california ram trucks are every where. Tow trucks,
Paramedics, cal trans, highway patrol, game warden, B.L.M,
construction and police. Ram trucks are becoming popular.
The dodge charger is also very popular in california for police duty. The 5.7 Hemi is proven reliable. In the end it comes down to choice. All of us have an opinion.

If Ford is going to showcase a truck in front of millions of fans, it makes perfect sense to use a SuperCrew 4x4. Why showcase a plain jane truck. The FX4 is a good one to select as it is a good mid level trim package. The flat black grill with colour matched bezel looks great (Best Ford grill besides the Raptor). The FX4 has some new options to show off as well. The "hill descent" is something that Ford should advertise as a trickle down from the Raptor.
Ford could use this to showcase its SSV package.

@HEMI V8 - if you are correct that Ford's are popular because of their payload then that means guys buy Fords just for work. I doubt that the new SAE standards will change much of anything when it comes to sales. It will mean a level playing field for picking a new truck if hauling or towing is your #1 priority.

I think that we are seeing more and more Ram's because they have overcome their stigma of unreliability and the fact that they are a good looking well optioned truck. They are picking up the slack left by and outdated Sierra ans Silverado. I used to see mostly Ford, Chevy and GM trucks. That has totally changed. In the HD ranks most trucks I see are Ford and Ram. It is starting to look the same with 1/2 tons. I'm seeing less and less Silverado's. The Sierra is more popular and since the Denali package was added to the HD's I'm seeing quite a few of them.

@ sandman4x4 You can get u connect on any Ram trim level if the truck did not come equipped with it. It can be installed as a mopar accessory. Takes about an hour to do. Not sure what the cost of the package is though. All the trucks come with u connect buttons wether they are equipped with the actual module or not.

They are using a 4x4 crew because thats what most consumers buy, you go to the dealer you will see nearly every truck is a Crew with high end cloth trim (XLT/FX4, LS/LT,SLT/Outdoorsman) or the lower end leather trims (Lariat/Fx4 Lux/LTZ/Larami) (i.e. the middle) with with a hand full of top trims i.e (King Ranch/Platnium, Longhorn/Limited, Denali) in 4x4 out side of texas and a few other markets. That is what most consumers purchase. I plan on buying an FX4 crew cab in 6-8 months to drive daliy instead of the raptor and this truck lookk sharp.

Mikes FX4 counting the duels ford only won 3 times so far this year toyota won 5 times dodge 2 times chevy won 8 times who has won the most races in nascar? oh yeah chevy whos one with the most championships? oh yeah chevy who been championship from 2005-2011 oh yeah chevy last time ford won a championship was 2003 ford is a joke in nascar

It is one of the few times a Ford is in the front of the pack.

Dodge does well in NASCAR. With 5% of the cars and 20% of the wins. I am excited about next year with the new cars.

Yeah Hemi dodge's only two cars put a good slap down too. I hope Penske racing don't change their cars over to ford we need dodge in nascar!!

@HEMI V8 and Johnnie dose - you say that Chev and Dodge are the fastest for running around in circles. That definately reminds me of the vast majority of your posts.

hemi v8 you keep saying dodge charger blah blah blah the only reason you DON"T see a Mustang or Camaro most of the time is ...The CHARGER has a FULL back SEAT ... chasing down an idiot on the road hands DOWN the MUSTANG/Camaro is by far the best to have .... more the MUSTANG its less/Weight and the POWER from the little 5.0 ....

http://www.leftlanenews.com/nhtsa-to-investigate-over-five-million-jeeps-after-gas-tank-fires.html <--- had to post this lmao

I maybe a little off topic but;
I've been trying to get pumped up for the new F-1 track being built here. The tickets just went on sale for the opener in Nov. General admission is $129 ea. so I think I will pass until the bugs they are sure to have get worked out (i.e. roads in & out, parking, etc.)
My questions:
Does the experience justify the cost? (sans airline and lodging expense because I live in Austin proper)
Can the whole track be seen from the stands or are we just watching CC TV most of the time?

Thanks for anyone's input.

@cory, some departments already have dodge challangers.

Departments already have this covered by the Outdoorsman and other Chrysler products. I mostly see Chrysler products in fleets whether they are business or government fleets.

GUTS GLORY RAM.

@Lou, Mopars are not only good going in circles in Nascar. They
do very well in a straight line as well.

@Frank, Looks fast is not the same as actually
being fast. Ram Hemi V8 with 8 speeds
beats Ford in head to head speed tests
and the new Pentastar V6 beats
Fords V6.

guts glory ram

Do you have proof or video of this OPINION your SPREADING PENTASTAR V6 ... Your being LAUGHED AT .......

@HEMI V8 - So, I hear you saying that they excel at something 99.9 % of the population cares little about.

@Lou, Nobody cares about you.
Ram is taking out Ford in 2013.
Guts Gory Ram.

I'm getting the distinct impression that Bob sold his old Silverado and bought a Dodge.

@cory, The articles clearly state, “both 2013 engines
backed by the eight-speed automatic should
provide at least 20 percent better fuel
economy compared to 2012
powertrains.”

I’ll do the math for you. 2012 Ram Hemi
4×2 gets 20 mpg, a 20% improvement
would be 24mpg. 2012 Ram
Hemi 4×4 gets 19mpg,
a 20% improvement would
be just under 23mpg.

Those are class leading numbers.

And there is more!

The new system will offer a class-leading 21-inch step-in height, give the truck another best-in-class
ground clearance of 10.7 inches at
full extension, and provide best-in-class
departure and breakover angles
at 27.8 and 24.2, respectively
