We like to be on the lookout for unique, interesting or just plain good stories about pickup trucks, and every once and a while we'll group them for you to read at your leisure. It doesn't happen often, but in this case, we found three we wanted to share.
Each has an honesty we appreciate, it and seems to imply (or states it outright) how important and useful a pickup truck is to these people. Someday we'll live in a world where stories like these won't have to be tinged with apology. Two are specifically about a Ford, and the third could be considered good advice for single women.
1. Doctor's Orders: Even if you don’t know the name Tom Bodett, you'd probably recognize his voice. Relatively famous for his Motel 6 "We'll leave the light on for you" catchphrase, Tom is now a guest blogger on the successful Car Talk radio show with auto experts Click and Clack. Tom's first blog entry is about his old pickup truck and how important it has become in his life. In fact, he's almost given it human qualities after visiting the truck doctor. Regardless of what type of truck you like, this piece is a good example of why the pickup truck will never go away.
2. Unusual Suspect: This one caught our eye because it's a quick review of the how well a half-ton pickup truck can solve a lot of transportation problems a small family faces. It might not be the most politically correct choice in some people's eyes, but having a pickup truck for family transport can make your life just a little bit easier. And your kids might think you're a little bit cooler than you actually are.
3. A Woman in a Pickup: What is it about a woman driving a pickup truck? We think this writer's perspective is a little funny, yet thoughtful. A columnist from the Asheville Citizen-Times in North Carolina attempts to solve the age-old mystery by examining her own experience and by talking to some of her friends. In the end, she has some advice for any single ladies looking for a trustworthy, hard-working partner.
