In October 2012, Big Tex, the hat-wearing, hand-waving towering figure that welcomed Texas fairgoers went up in flames. Officials vowed that day that Tex would return, and today, nearly a year later, he did. And we were there to see it. Photographer Evan Sears caught the unveiling of the Big Tex, which went off early because officials feared that high winds would tear down the curtains surrounding him.
Pickup truck news? No. But we’ve been coming to the State Fair for so many years, we’re fans of Big Tex like anyone else, and we’re happy to see him back where he belongs.
