Nissan Looks to Move Metal With Rocker Bret Michaels

Nissan Michaels 3 II

Nothing says commercial van like a good glam-rock lead singer ready to move some metal; that must be why Nissan has just announced it has hired Bret Michaels, former lead singer of the rock band Poison and star of the reality show "Rock of Love," to be the product spokesman for both of its commercial vans: the NV1500/2500/3500 full-size van and the NV200 compact van.

The rock video (first video below) has a few funny moments and highlights the many different testing facilities at the Nissan Arizona Technical Center in Stanfield. In the test videos, Michaels — an Arizona native like many on the truck engineering team — does a pretty good job explaining each of the tests, adding a few anecdotes and some personal history along the way. Compared to many mismatched pairings we've seen between trucks and celebrity pitchmen, this one seems to strike the right balance of substance and humor. Check out the "Endless Love" video below, then watch each of the specific durability tests Nissan conducted to make the rock video.

Quit the crap, really.

It's getting long in the tooth.

You want to debate, but it has to be on your terms.

Learn to debate with good information, then we might be able to have a decent debate.

Opinions are good, but if they are only your view to support the UAW, then how good are they. Look at what you guys have done to Detroit.

Terror tactics (union tactics) don't work on me.

If PUTC wants the UAW or whatever to control this site I suppose it's their decision.

It's not kids like I've been told by PUTC.

Nothing says toughness like a guy who dressed like a girl for a living.

I wonder why Nissan feels the need to do this type of marketing campaign on their vans.

Typically vans do not need any extensive marketing to sell. The vast majority of buyers are fleet buyers and as such they are not likely to be influence so much by the ads they see on TV or the internet. Fleet buyers are accountable to their employers and must purchase vehicles suitable for the business, not what they prefer.

The Econoline has been around for many years and Ford has never needed to spend much money marketing it, yet it sells just fine.

I see plenty of companies who have purchased the NV vans, and I have no doubt that the decision to purchase them was based on an analysis of the NV vans against the competition.

Lastly, I rarely see advertisements for any type of work truck. Advertisement always show "lifestyle trucks" (Lariat, Laramie, LTZ, Denali, etc). An advertisement for a full-sized van is a particularly rare occurrence.

@Hemi Monster
Not many fleets know this van exists, this type of marketing is to draw attention to itself to remind them that they are here.

I think this would make an excellent Work Van.

I admit it was the TV Commericals on the NFL Games that influenced me to buy a F-150

Brandon: the answer is air! and I wonder what all this tough love is all about? could it be the looks the salespersons of these ugly vans have to deal with? I do not care if these vans are the best in the world ( they are not), I would not be caught in any of them!

They use an over the hill front man from the hair band Poison..........

makes perfect sense to me.

I like Poison, but anything they say is not going to sell me on a van. I won't even watch the videos.

PUTC needs a full-size van shootout in the future if GM ever gets another full-size van. This is the last year of the Express.

Excuse me this is only the last year of the 1500 Express. GM will still have the ugly and outdated 2500's and 23500 to sell.

Want to sell me a van? I'll start listening when you offer one with 4x4 and a manual transfer case, a solid axle front and back, an optional diesel engine, and a manual transmission for A LOT less than those obscene Sportsmobiles. Until then no thanks, especially when trying to shove those rinky-dink eurovans down our throats with sloppy automatic transmissions and anemic V6's, the worst of both worlds! At least Nissan is still making a traditional body-on-frame V8 van, even though it's ugly as sin and has a longer hood than an 80's Econoline.

I think Nissian made a bit of a mistake using this pairs hilton look a like !!!

Mark Williams needs to step up the enforcement here. People are stealing my identity.

Lou_BC
It seems this is the way PUTC wants this site to operate.

Totally unintelligent input, by societies worthless.

I haven't really posted much lately like you mentioned...........but I'm back home after spending over a month Stateside.

^^^
Wasn't me. I think someone is posting the link to my Typepad account in the URL field so they can make it look like it's me.

This site has very poor security and moderation.

I think it's suspicious Lou-bc loves TTAC wants PUTC to be just like it. And now their are more clowns than ever on here. Could Lou-BC and his alter ego's be trying to ruin this site so he can get more over there? Maybe Mark Williams should think about that.

Damn Lou_BC I just tried what you said and it would have let me post under your name. That is unsat.

This site has more stories about vans than about trucks! I thought the name of the site was Pickup Trucks, not Trucks, and certainly not Vans!
Stories on the SUV's have been requested by many members here to no avail. And at least the Full size SUV's are all based off the Pickup Trucks.

@Lou
This is PICKUP trucks.com not trucks.com or Vans.com.

Also I've owned full size vans, passenger versions and they were all considered Vans, you can take the seats out and haul cargo just like a cargo van and they where all truck based.

I'm not arguing that full size Vans can't be considered a truck especially the Body on Frame models.

My point is that most people on this site are truck enthusiasts and/or buy rucks for recreational use IE hauling or towing.

Most people will cross shop pickups and full size SUV's, or even passenger vans when I comes time to buy a vehicle to haul the family boat.

If they want to cover work trucks then why is it that every pickup they test is a fully loaded crew cab?

We rarely see reviews on work truck model regular cab truck or stiped extended cabs, but we see it with these economy vans.

Excuse me this is only the last year of the 1500 Express. GM will still have the ugly and outdated 2500's and 23500 to sell.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,,
GM vans look great imo and are very popular where I live,

but then GM trucks reliablity is always better then any competition LOLOL

These Nissans are UGLYier then sin..

Funny to see that the trolls are trying to hijack my typepad account, the problem with the troll morons doing that is if one clicks the typepad link - it will list ONLY the posts made by the registered "Lou_BC".

The same inbred unemployed bottom feeder is even trying to run a conversation with "Big Al" who hasn't posted here or TTAC in a few weeks.

PUTC is a joke and the trolls are openly ridiculing this site.

I have to laugh and as each day passes I get closer to giving up on this site since 90% of the entries are from trolls or fanboys and it is getting harder to tell the difference.

@HEMI MONSTER - agreed. I'm sure that a rock and roll garage band wanting to hit the road to make it big aren't going to have the cash to buy any new van let alone one of these.

You should get better fact checkers before you post articles. Bret is not the 'former' lead singer of Poison. The band has not broken up. They just have not made new music in a long time. They have performed as recently as 2013. Also, Bret is not a native of Arizona. He is a native of Pennsylvania and current resident of Arizona.

Anyone who doesn't know that's a wig under the bandana and bald head under has been living under a rock. Bret knows he's not fooling anyone. He's not stupid. He doesn't look good bald. Google "A Letter from Death Row" and you'll see what I mean. He shaved his head for that role and has been wearing weaves & wigs ever since.

So let me see if I get this right. Lou-BC/ALL1, Bitch about me posting stone cold facts about their precious Ford brand and it's fire recalls after they troll each and every Ram blog and go on and on and on about low(honest) pay load rating's of Ram. Looks to me that the FACT is they can dish it out but they can't take it. : - (

This is hilarious now that we know how Ford figures their payload towing numbers. Ford is a joke just like Lou-BC and All1. Now go cry to Mark Williams.

What I post about Ford is 100% FACT with little opinion which this site ask's you to give. In my experience Ford was the most dangerous vehicle i have ever owned. My opinion is Ford sucks and I can back that claim up with fact even no this site just said to state my opinion.

Fact is you Ford fans can't handle the truth. So then you personally attack people that aren't drunk on the jim jones kool aid. Names and belittling trying to bully anyone that doesn't agree with you. Pretty sad. Don't worry I'll be your huckle berry. lol

sure makes me want to go out there and buy one...not

He looks like a female with facial hair... but anyway I think those vans need more than a rockstar to make them cool.

I saw my first nv-200, yes two hundred, on the road last week. I guess that marketing is working. And they're going to need it to work when they have trouble selling their titan with the big diesel in it.

@Big Al - if that is the "real" you click on my typed link. If the post you are looking at is listed on my typepad page then it was made by the registered "Lou_BC".

An included hyperlink that does not display the text in question was made by one of the unemployed inbred bottom feeders that are bombing this site to death.

@Big Al - if you are really back then I'll see you at TTAC. Unemployed inbred bottom feeding trolls can't kill that site like they are here.

Kind of odd, thought he was a Ford guy. Poison was a killer rock band way back. Too bad.
