2017 Ford Super Duty Named Motor Trend Truck of the Year

Although not all pickup truck fans care about awards, manufacturers sure seem to love them. One of the longest-running awards was announced Monday as an unofficial kickoff to the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Motor Trend named the all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty its 2017 Truck of the Year. It's the first time the Super Duty — which includes the F-250, F-350 and select F-450 models — has won the award and only the fifth time in the award's history that a heavy-duty pickup has won it. Since the award's inception in 1979, the Ram and Chevrolet Silverado HDs have both won twice.

The re-engineered and redesigned Super Duty with an aluminum body like the F-150 was among three finalists; the others were the upgraded 2017 Ford F-150 (new engine and transmission) and the all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The 2017 Super Duty also won the coveted Texas Auto Writers Association Truck of Texas award in October.

I find it surprising that the truck that invented this segment and set itself apart and at one time accounted for 75ish % of all full size HD sales didn't win it in 98/99 when it first came out.

For this year this isn't surprising with its level of change and performance its brining to the segment this year. Waiting to see how the bailout babies counter. GM struck back with more HP but less Torque. Fiat may be facing a dieselgate... the story is just starting.

No surprise here, nicely done!

I predicted it. Great job FORD!!!!

Hemi v8,
I wouldn't brag on another manufacturer's issues. As I recall Ram was the only brand to ever have a buyback and their overall dependability rating is the worst of the big 3. And hey I like Ram trucks

Looks like HEMI V8 is enjoying 3rd place. Somebody has to...

MotorTrend names anything new the Winner.

@ hemi I4 looks like pee on his panties. Nobody thought he was.

Reading the motor trend TOTY article they did a direct comparison with a Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi and Ram 3500 aisin 900 Ftlbs. How well the ford performed against the Ram in economy and performance in both the gas and diesel is truely amazing. I may just get rid of my 2015 Cummins 3500 in favor of a f350 if more comparisons confirm what motor trend has reported. Just the economy difference would be a huge cost savings in the Ford over the Ram

And rightly so

After spending weeks comparing new 3500 series dullies I can see how ford won this honor. The wife and I purchased a 40' Fifth Wheel for some traveling. We first drove a GMC Denali and boy was it a nice truck. We then tested a Ram 3500. It almost felt like a Walmart addition truck. It just felt cheap. And we are looking in the $70K price range. Drove a 2017 Superduty and the wife and I were blown away. A fantastic truck. We absolutely loved it. But since we just came from a cheap feeling Ram we tried the GMC again. We were still impressed a lot by the truck but we knew the Super duty was what we wanted. It was so nice from the ride, powertrain performance, interior, etc. So we bought the Super duty. Now we wait for the 5th wheel to get finished up at the factory.

Truly nice comment dave and comparison
