Spied: 2018 Nissan Titan Extended-Cab Pickup

NissanTitan.extcab.g01.KGP.ed (1) II

The last piece in a long rollout of the Nissan Titan cab configurations looks to be ready for production if our spy shooters are correct. They've spotted an extended-cab half-ton Titan testing in the real world, which means we'll likely see it sometime next year. Here's what they've sent us:

"Nissan engineers are hard at work on an extended-cab variant of the Titan full-size pickup, as evidenced by this new prototype running the streets of Detroit.

"The all-new, second-generation Titan launched with the crew-cab light- [Titan] and heavy-duty [Titan XD] configurations, and after some delay, the single cab is just now going online at Nissan dealers. Now that it's clear that an extended-cab Titan is in the works, Nissan is on the verge of having a full range of cab options to properly do battle with Ram, Ford and GM full-size pickups.

"This prototype shows no signs of a rear exterior door handle, so it appears that Nissan is going the way of the Ford F-150, with a rear-hinged access door instead of the truncated front-hinged door favored by GM, Ram and Toyota. We'll have to wait and see how wide the smaller door opens."

Looks just like a Ford with clam doors.

@kyle, just like GM everyone wants to Ford, because they are number 1

Might be awhile before Nissan can be considered battling it out with ram or ford, it'll take some time for them to build a good reputation in North America before they become a threat. Lol

I hate to echo a lot of previous posts from other articles but here goes, why is pickuptrucks.com so late with their stories. This was posted on truck trend 3 days ago.

Where's the story about how Toyota (the most over-rated automaker in the history of the world) is STILL recalling trucks over the rusty frames issue? Apparently even up to the 2014 model year. Garbage.

It only took 3 model years to get the extended cab. smh.

In any event it will probably have the 170 degree opening which is exactly what you want for extended cabs that are used for hauling cargo. Better late than never.

It is great to see the Titan being offered in more configurations and sales will grow from current levels. I feel FORD is safe in the # 2 sales position behind GM and will not be threatened by Nissan in the immediate future.

The rear-hinged doors on an extended cab always made more sense to me.

FYI Nissan was the originator of the 180 degree king cab doors that swing all the way back almost against the bed. I miss mine sometimes as it was bigger then my Ram quad cab, I could get my oversized mountain bike in the back but I can't get it in the back of my Ram as the handle bars are to wide to get through the opening.

"I feel FORD is safe in the # 2 sales position behind GM and will not be threatened by Nissan in the immediate future." ???

Ford currently is #1 in 2016 pickup sales vs the SUM of the sales from the GM twins (Silverado and Sierra).

As of Nov 30th..........Sales total...Growth Slope (units/month)
Ford F-150...................733,287........430
Sliverado + Sierra........718,994........365

Considering the stability o 11-month growth slopes, it is greatly unlikely that GM will outsell Ford in pickups in 2016.

===================

Looks like a 2004 Titan but with a new grille and front fenders..

Looks like they took the sagged springs off a 2004 too. Come on Nissan just because it's a 4x2 doesn't mean it should ride a inch off the bump stops in front.

Will be nice to see a full line up of Nissan trucks, give's much more better choices to replace my 2014 Chevy 1500 with.

NMGOM can only add partial numbers to try and make Ford look good.

Nissan should stick to making vehicles for rental companies.

Maybe that is where they are heading with Titan!

Sure hope Nissan don't copy everything and try to cheat their extended cab customers of the full safety envelope like Ford did with their extended cab customers.

Yeah and GM cheated its customers first with the 2014 Silverado.

GM heard final test specs at the same time as Ford in Feb. 2012. Ford moved first doing what could be done with the 2015 SuperCrew and then with the 2016 other cabs. What was GM's excuse for waiting and cheating its customers longer than Ford?

IIHS Top Safety Picks:

2016-17 Ford F-150 Crew cab pickup
with optional front crash prevention

2016-17 Ford F-150 Extended cab pickup

Still no GM, johnny dolt.

Ford gets Good ratings on small front overlap for all cabs.

GM only acceptable on Extended Cabs and Marginal on CrewCabs.

Ram Is Marginal and Marginal.

So who's still cheating who?

Sure hope Nissan don't copy GM and try to cheat their extended cab customers of the full safety envelope like GM does with all of their crew cab and extended cab customers.

Ford could be dropping cars like FCA, man that's funny. I recall the Ford fannie boys picking on FCA over that.

HAHAHA! Good ones, gentlemen!

Make rear doors so they can openup it would be great.

Nice Truck
Too Bad About The Engine

It is great to see the Titan being offered in more configurations and sales will grow from current levels. I feel shaky cheby/GMC is not safe in the # 2 sales position behind FORD and will not be threatened by Nissan in the immediate future.

So far the we only know 2 details about the extended cab- it'll have clamshell doors and a 6ft bed, supposedly for the XD version as well. I see a lot of contractors with extended cabs/8ft bed trucks. Back seat full of tools, materials under a big cap. Not sure if the 2000# payload of a Gas XD would be enough for those guys in the first place though.

No doubt a Very stout truck, if it proves to be ultra reliable
they will take some customers from all of the other manufacturers.
The GM twins have the Chevy shake by 80,000 miles the front suspension needs an overhaul big time
Also the Gm trucks have a frame problem lots of them are cracking and rusting .
I hope GM does better next model because if they do not
people will kiss them good bye for good.

Still waiting for some real innovation from the Titan... How about some modern V6s? Or something in the suspension, weight, materials departments? Since the XD was an overpriced swing and a miss even with an excellent engine whats next?

Lets hope Mr. Knowitall is wrong. What a waste of this
version likewise only came with a 6 foot and not a 8 foot bed.
My '05 Dakota has the jump seat version with the 6.5 foot
bed. Handy at times, useless at other times. Why does Nissan
insist on taking 2 steps forward and one step back?

I don't understand what the big deal is. They had extended cab since they 1st came out. I got an 4 and love it .

I like extened cabs. They have better looking proportions then crew cabs.
Put a manual in it. Be the only one.
This titan is pretty ugly up front. Those rims would look good plastidipped black.

The Titan will continue to pull sales away from Ford and RAM.

I didn't get the memo. When did we re-name "Suicide Doors"?
I love the 170 degree doors on my 2010.
That's a deal breaker for me buying the new GM extended cabs.

A "B" pillar is no substitute for defensive driving. Be alert. T-bone's always happen at intersections.

I remember ,oh I guess it was back in 1978 The then CEO of GM
which had 76% of the automotive industry locked up.
GM CEO said those little cars won't sell in North America.
then he laughed. They ain't laughing anymore at GM or any other manufacturer . The Japanese,Koreans, Soon the Chinese now own the Car market. A bigger percentage of Truck sales is going to them. The question is will it be RAM FORD GM or all three that lose market share to them. They can't keep up and are not reliable one by one they will move to Toyota Nissan
Both Toyota and Nissan do not need 1/2 ton sales to be prosperous. These are bonus sales for them. Conquest sales.
