2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Exhaust Video: Perfect Tunes

During our extended driving tour in the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor during our 2017 Monster Factory Off-Road Challenge, we had plenty of time to listen to the throaty and subtle fluctuations of the exhaust system at speed, in low range and at idle.

The new Raptor, like many other V-6-equipped F-150s, includes tone-technology that allows passengers to hear a slightly different engine sound than the one coming out the tailpipe, meaning it's given a more muscular and V-8-sounding tone. But Ford engineers also spent gobs of time and energy trying to provide the engine with the most rear-wheel power and the best sound they could find.

Here is the latest video from Ford showing how engineers tested and created the unique twin-pipe exhaust system for this latest-generation Raptor.

The new Raptor, like many other F-150s, includes no_stop-technology that allows the brakes to fail including "sudden and complete loss" of braking ability...

Good work Ford!

Sounds like every other V-6. Nice engine with lots of power though.

Ford could have used a supercharged 5.0 V8.
No need for synthesized interior sounds.

And until someone cuts open that muffler & resonator, how can you say "true dual exhaust", when the exhaust gasses most probably are combined internally. *and not that you'd want a complete dual exhaust, you can get better scavenging/acoustics when you put all your cylinders together.

Sounds like every other V-6. Nice engine with lots of power though.

No worries, inside the truck it sounds like a GM 6.2 L, thanks to Fords fake V8 sound technology.

What else is fake from ford?

Gawd I hate that sound.

The noise reminds me of all the young kids with their cheap, late model, small displacement, buzzy exhaust mustangs and camaros with ridiculous racing stripes. Even my 8 year old comments about how slow they are for all the noise coming out the exhaust.

If they sound so good why all the effort to disguise the noise?

Truck sounds nice. Funny how the GMC "girlymen" as Bob used to say, say it needs a V8. The Raptor is selling like hotcakes and is on backorder. So much nasty comments from the GMC boys, yet so many sales for Ford. I don't think what the GMC boyz say on PUTC is changing any minds and in fact it may be backfiring. What you are hearing from the GM crowd is fear.

They should explain how the Ford Raptor got smoked by an old open diff 31 year old Chevy truck on Gold Mine Hill ROTFLOL!!!!!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLCJ5AtkUOc

You are better off with a $5,000 30-40 year old GM Dodge or Ford truck than a $75,000 Raptor HAHAHAHA! You said monster factory off-road truck ROTFLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like a minivan with a fart can.

Keep attacking Ford.

If there is anything GM should be worrying about, it would be Ram truck sales that are only 1,700 behind Chevy.

Make the Ford Claptor engineers got the tune from this kid even.

No other engine sounds as good as a V8 in my Opinion.

That's funny since Ford kicks the crap out of ram in everything. Did the Ram make their diesel epa compliant yet since ram was cheating their emission on the fiat diesel and possibly the Cummins diesel to. Hahaha

@ Daddy doe, Did Ford figure they needed to add the spare tire, front passenger seat, radio and console to the towing equation? LOL

That's funny since Ford stopped doing that before GM did. Ford has always kicked rams but even when ram made a specialty microsized dually to try and compete with Fords 4 door 4 wheel drive truck. Haha, nice try but you lose.

That was only on HDs and the base model HDs didn't have a center console or radio so what did Ford fake?

Power Wagon made it in the snow. Both trucks have solid axles. The Raptor is a Pre Runner.

The Gold Mine Hill video was fakenews to promote their new purchase and get hits on youtube. The Raptor could have made it if they wanted it to.

Didn't the power wagon come in last place during the off road challenge here at pickup trucks.com? Oops, did I say that out loud hemi

They even said it was not a contest of the truck but the tires. Everyone knows (with the exception of fiat people) that tires and driving ability is what allows you to drive in the snow.

Ford engineers Spend gobs of time just trying to make it sound better in the cab.? Ppffffttt what a waist of time. Thier time would be better spent trying to make a GOOD reliable truck.! Instead of adding a whole bunch of gadgetry that nobody wants.

HA!HA!HA! Ford's got nothing to compare to my Ram Dealer Bought Prospector Power Wagon. Tows my 10,000lbs Toy Hauler and my three racing YFZ 450's out in the dune sand beyond the Ford camps. lol

Daddy Doe, Add Nissan to the list of trucks that can't match my Rams towing and off road capability. lol

Oh I'm sorry, you mean by off road capability is being able to coast off the road because your junk is the least reliable truck brand. Haha, you drive junk that breaks down and ranks the lowest in reliability.

"If they sound so good why all the effort to disguise the noise?

Posted by: Ken | Feb 26, 2017 11:34:28 AM"

Because trucks are unique segment where the manufacturer can sit there and post 0-60 and 1/4mile times from a 6k lbs truck that would give all but some of the hottest sports cars a run for their money, yet knuckle dragging mouthbreathers like you will still come in and complain about how it doesnt sound powerful.

I agree that V6 Mustangs/Camaros with loud exhausts are pointless and slow, but a nearly 500bhp twin turbo V6 engine isnt the same thing, so your comparison doesnt hold any value here.

The sales numbers for the last 3 decades seem to disagree with your assessment there buddy. You have to combine both lines of GM trucks and add the Colorado to get even get close. So it would seem, actually, that Ford is making exactly what people want.

I don't buy trucks and won't be buying my next one for the sound it makes, but it sounds alright to me here...

So you can honestly say that you like fake engine noise blaring out of your speakers.? I think the engineers should spend thier time on something useful ? Or wouldn't you rather save a few hundred dollars or what ever the cost is for this feature and not have it ? Don't think it cost nothing!!! Because they spent "gobs" of time on this and time is money.!

"So Ford, now that you've conquered the 4WD truck category"

Posted by: Lionel | Feb 26, 2017 5:56:32 PM

I think they conquered the only class in it's class. 1/2 ton Pre Runner off roader but "Truck Category"? I'm NOT convinced. Not only is a Rubicon and Tradesman Power Wagon more capable you can get one cheaper than a Raptor.

Funny how Ford is trying to put a spin on the exhaust sound by saying it's the new sound of performance. We all have heard Civics with pep boys exhaust systems. That must have been Fords inspiration for the eco boost exhaust systems. LOL!

Lionel, The Raptor is an expensive toy.
Posted by: HEMI V8 | Feb 26, 2017 6:23:28 PM

Oh Ok, a fully loaded Power Wagon, tradesman, rebel or whatever the best RAM is not a toy too? Raptor is a far better value & run rings around all these trucks...worst still, in the end, you're paying all this top $$$ for what? a Fiat :-)

What else is fake from ford?

Quality is job 1

WARNING!...WARNING!...F150 IS DANGEROUS!....WARNING!

U.S. safety regulators are investigating whether a recall of Ford F-150 pickup trucks for brake failures should be expanded to more model years.

The probe covers hundreds of thousands of pickups with 3.5-litre six-cylinder engines from 2015 and 2016. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received many complaints of sudden brake loss in the trucks.

Last May, Ford recalled hundreds of thousands six-cylinder F-150s from 2013 and 2014 because brake fluid could leak from the master cylinder and cause brake failure.

@Lionel - How's Marshall doing?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_ruyQgTxb8&t=3s

Have you got Marshall in the back seat of your crew cab yet?

Exhaust upgrades should be cheaper now, just buy a better speaker🤔

I've never been a fan of the sound of V6's but I am a fan of the power that the EB3.5 makes.

Both trucks you mentioned can tow more than the Raptor which is what i do. Which truck do you think would tow better. The Power Wagon with a 10,000lbs rating or the Raptor max out @ 6,000lbs? Raptor is less truck for more MONEY. It's a one trick pony like the Rubicon is. Both Toys in my book.

The only way that piece of junk Ram can tow 10,000lbs is when it is being hauled away by a Ford tow truck. The power wagon is nothing more than a stickered up piece of junk 2500 series ram. That's why it came in last place for the off road challenge.
Since you spend all your time on YouTube.....

The 4.10 10 speed 450 horse 510 tq Claptor is a joke runs a 5 second 0-60. 3:73 6 speed 420 460 6.2L ran a 5.4 0-60. all them gears more power just for a 0.4 second of an edge, what a joke the Claptor is.

Whatever the exhaust noise they create artificially I can't tell the difference with the window rolled down or up, sounds the same to me. I don't mind the sound the truck makes as im used to my Tacoma's anyway. Truck drives great and has cool tech. That's what I care about in a daily driver.

Sound doesn't mean much to the driver cause it sounds ok in the cab... the only people that hear the sound coming out of the pipes is the grim guys and the 6.2 guys that you blow the doors off. It's a very humiliating experience for them to have their doors blown off by such a crappy sounding engine. The economist sound out the back is a middle finger to 6.2 gm people and he i people as you just got smoked!!!!

Where did everybody go? It's time for a new topic!

BEAUTIFUL TRUCK!!!

No other truck mfger can get this close to a This REAL TRUCK.

Way to go, with this truck on the Market, no other trucks suits my needs.

Way to go Ford. Top notch products leading the way in TECHNOLOGY.

#1

Don't forget that the Raptor is a lifted truck running 35's compared to a truck that is lighter and is a street truck. Pretty sad when an off road truck outperforms a street truck. And the fat cow of a power wagon is just sad. Slow as balls.

Posted by: Daddy doe | Feb 26, 2017 7:04:48 PM

Its embarrassing to other Truck makers to say the least. Like come one, this Truck has one arm tied behind it's back and still beats on them.

So Ford needs a specialty truck to beat GM's normal truck numbers from 2014 in 2017. Wow I feel sorry for you Trash Motor Company clowns, wait no I don't HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Posted by: johnny doe | Feb 27, 2017 11:32:10 AM

Haha, GM has nothing close to the capabilities of the Raptor. It is GM pantry owners that have to try and find something to feel special about. More like GM had to find an engine to compete with Fords 2010 engine and as you said with the Raptor vs the chevy barely beat it even though the chevy junk has 55 more hp, 40lbft of torque and an 8 speed trans. Talk about an embarrassing failure for GM.

Haha, GM has nothing close to the capabilities of the Raptor.

Posted by: Daddy doe | Feb 27, 2017 11:54:55 AM

What are these so called capabilities you speak of. Are you comparing it to the Corvette? I believe the Corvette has around 600 lbs weight carrying capacity. What is the rating on the Raptor, 800 lbs ?. LOL! HAHAHA!

Military grade at its finest
