Ram Makes It Easy to Configure a Work Truck

Everyone knows that the easiest way to know what you want is to actually see it. But that's not always possible when choosing a pickup truck — whether for work or play — especially when your work or playtime can be unique.

Ram now has a solution for that dilemma. Introduced at the 2017 Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Ram's Augmented Reality Upfit Configurator can help commercial and work-truck fleet buyers see which Ram truck best meets their needs.

The configurator is a computer-generated visual program that allows customers to virtually showcase available options. Perspective buyers can virtually walk around the vehicle and view inside to assess the various options via computer simulation. Using a dealer's iPad, snap a picture of the truck you're interested in, start the configurator program and touch the options you want on your truck; you view it through the iPad camera. Click to see different colors, configurations and optional upfitter equipment. Click again to change it all.

Originally offered on the Ram ProMaster full-size van, Ram has expanded the configurator to the Ram ProMaster City and the entire Ram chassis cab lineup (3500, 4500 and 5500).

Our guess is it won't be too long before we'll be able to custom order the exact truck we want by simply by taking a picture of something close to it on the street, adding the aftermarket or upffitter equipment we want and then sending it to our local dealer.

Can you open the hood and perform simulated troubleshooting to try and figure out how to complete your objective and make it all the way to point B?

this sort of software has been around for almost 20 years but RAM has chosen a perfect and customer-friendly way to deploy it. Hats off to RAM!

Why hasn't the self proclaimed (Ford) truck leader been able to offer this technology.

@GMS, sorry you cant show anything CHevy did and have to resort to trying complain about Ford, and now will have to , yet again, defend the twins.....

Not sure how this trucks really helps anyone

They have been doing this in Russia since almost forever. Just look up UAZ trucks and many more.

Toyotas are BEST

@daddy, GMS will never learn......thats why i have to feel sorry for him

anyone else EVER seen a stake body that wasn't wide enough to overlap the rear wheels? Odd photo.

What your looking at is a computer generated image from the upfit configurator software. I'm sure an actual truck would have the stake body over the rear wheels.
