2013-2016 Ram 1500 and 2500, 2014-2016 Ram 3500: Recall Alert

2016 ram 1500 recall
By Patrick Masterson

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 1,000,000 model-year 2013-16 Ram 1500 and 2500 pickup trucks, and model-year 2014-16 Ram 3500 pickups

The Problem: Certain driving conditions — such as driving off-road or debris striking the pickup — may cause the roll rate sensor to trigger a fault in the occupant restraint controller, disabling the rollover side curtain airbag and preventing the seat belt pretensioner from deploying. If both are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury in a crash that necessitates these systems.

Ram manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it is aware of one fatality, two injuries and two accidents that may be related.

The Fix: Dealers will update the occupant restraint controller software for free.

What Owners Should Do: FCA will begin notifying owners June 23. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.

1m vehicles....Whoa boy. Bad timing for Fiat.

Looks like FCA has taken a page out of the Ford playbook.

Great job Ram for fixing the problem, Trash Motor Company AKA Ford wouldn't fix it! They just hide the problems.

Ford owners shake in their high heels in fear of air bags not deploying HAHAHAHAHAHA

"The Problem: Certain driving conditions — such as driving off-road or debris striking the pickup"

If you use your Ram truck as a truck , it will confuse the truck and cause it to shut off safety devices.

Take home message:

DON'T BUY A RAM IF YOU ACTUALLY NEED A TRUCK

At least they didn't wait until people were killed, unlike GM with their ignition problem. Don't GM trucks still shake while going down the road?

RAM makes a very nice HD pickup, glad it is just a software update.

@Firefighter - I know several people who have had nightmare problems with Ram electronics. I'm not surprised by this software problem.

@gms, yes they did take a page from Ford, by actually having recalls.....unlike GM who tried to hide the problem and then ended up confessing......thank you so much for pointing this out, and again, as always so sorry you have will now have to defend them again.

its why i choose to stick with older trucks, less electronics to worry about failing and if i ever do get something new it'll be a lower trim model without all the electronics in it

lol. Look at the GM bots. All they do is talk Ford. I guess that's what years of frustration will do.

Yea, those GM Bots talk Ford on a non-Ford related page. I would also bet they go to sleep upset at night knowing they must combine 6 different line up of Trucks to beat Ford 2.

Oh well, guess that's what happens when you root for the wrong team, you grow old and stale.

I don't care, I wouldn't trade my Ram for one each of the other guys.

Junk junk junk just like GARBAGE MOTORS, IF YOU WANT A REAL TRUCK DON'T LOOK FURTHER, YOU KNOW WEHER TO GO.

Who the heck would buy a fiat anyway? That crap is garbage. Can't believe there that many out there to recall. I would drive a prius before that junk

JERRY! JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!

Man if it ain't GM it's Fiat !!! They just don't care about the people they sell vehicles to.

Looks like FCA has taken a page out of the Ford playbook.

Thats hillarious coming from a G.M. fan.

Supreme Court Allows Ignition-Switch Lawsuits To Proceed Against GM In Pre-Bankruptcy Crashes

APR 24, 2017 The U.S. Supreme Court today refused to hear General Motors' bid to block hundreds of ignition-switch lawsuits, potentially worth billions of dollars, involving crashes that occurred prior to its 2009 bankruptcy.

Robert, Robert, Robert, do you have a illiteracy problem?
Or do you mean nobody of importance (Ram owner) died?

Owners won't be notified for another 5 weeks?
I guess it takes awhile to lick a million stamps!

E-gads, I'm surprised it took so long for this issue to surface.

When the new Ram design (2013) rolled out as well as the ecodiesel there were too many software bugs and dumb design features. It gave a strong impression FCA didn't do a good job of testing features and systems. I guess this is another bug from that period.

Hey everybody look at how salty Frank is because he was too late to bring up GM in a Ram article. Sorry stinky Frank, go take a bath.

Yes Frank, GM builds trucks, Ford builds trucks, GM sells more trucks. Any questions?

"GM sells more trucks. Any questions?"

Current math says No!

"Just as interesting is the manufacturers' race: Ford is still doing an amazing job with its two-truck lineup (the F-150 and Super Duty) when compared with GM's six-truck lineup (Chevrolet Colorado and Silverado 1500 and heavy duties, and the GMC Canyon and Sierra 1500 and HDs). If something doesn't change soon, the Ford Ranger, due out in the next 18 months, will certainly help push Ford even further ahead."

April 2017

Ford 70,657
GM 69,143
..................
Ford = 1,514

Ford said the vehicle remained controllable after a pump failure.
Believe it or not, when the GM vehicle ignition switches turned off, those vehicles were still controllable. It still had brakes and steering only it was no longer power assisted. Sounds like Ford is willing to follow what GM thought was o.k.

Where did everybody go?

I've had my 2015 Ram quad cab since brand new and it now has 50000 miles on it without a hiccup and pulls in an average of 22 miles per gallon City and Highway combined. Suck it, haters

The F-150 Eco-Boost has throttle body issues I consider dangerous but no recall

Great job Ram for fixing the problem, Trash Motor Company AKA Ford wouldn't fix it! They just hide the problems.

Wow, just when I thought you couldn't make a dumber post, you go and totally prove me wrong. GM was the company that killed people with it's faulty $30 ignition switch, hid the evidence, did a bogus internal investigation and only recalled them after several unnecessary deaths and the feds stepped in. I know, I know, they were working on the 2009 truck that they released in 2014 complete with the good vibrations. Seriously, you and your 6 other usernames should just stick to the gmauthority message boards. Oh wait, you got tired of hearing people there complain about their shaky junk.

Glad to see Ram owning the issue and trying to fix it. No need for bogus internal investigations like Govn't Motors. Says a lot about a company standing behind their products.
