2018 Ford F-150: Recall Alert

F-150_column_recall

By Patrick Masterson

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 12,000 model-year 2018 Ford F-150 pickup trucks equipped with 3.3-liter engines, six-speed transmissions and column-mounted shift levers, and built at Michigan's Dearborn Truck Plant from Jan. 12, 2017, to Oct. 9, 2017, and Missouri's Kansas City Assembly Plant from Jan. 30, 2017, to Oct. 9, 2017

The Problem: Rapid movement of the transmission shifter from Park to Drive may cause loss of PRNDL gear indication in the instrument cluster, as well as momentary engagement of reverse operation before the vehicle achieves forward drive function, increasing the risk of accident or injury.

Ford said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with the issue.

The Fix: Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module with the latest-level calibration software for free. Before repairs have been completed, owners and dealers should carefully shift into gear and confirm the intended selection in the PRNDL instrument-cluster display.

What Owners Should Do: Ford did not immediately announce an owner notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 for more information.

More cheap China made parts on Fords, what a shame JUNK!

Ford

Quality is job NONE

Today is a good day to say Hat's Off to the Blue Oval team. Ford's 3rd quarter report shows some progress made in profitability and great results from Ford's SUVs and Pickups. The new CEO Mr Hackett has a clear idea about the things that are working at Ford and if the board of directors will let him RUN THINGS he stands a chance of doing some great things.

The things that Ford's doing right are the very same things that have done so well for GM during the last few years. Focus on profitable markets and stick with the gal that brung ya. Pickups and SUVS.

Ford is not doing well in the offshore markets and really needs to re-emphasize what Ford customers love.

Care to substantiate your vacuous claims, or are you content with being the barking at the moon village idiot.

These recalls are very suspicious to me.... approx. 12,000 vehicles? That's like one day of sales.....

Haha I know Ford sells a ton of stripped down fleet trucks but 12k fleet trucks sold a day is really stretching it.

If what you say is so please educate us "idiot's. Please present your evidence. Your response tactic , is a nonresponse, evasive and boorish.

So far, My 2018 F-150 lariat has been good to me! ("Knock on wood") 1 1/2 months & 3200 miles, in not yet complaining ...
And I promise you I'll be the first bitch if there's a problem!!
I only shopped for a year and a half before I made my decision, and I'm glad I made the decision that I did with exception to not getting the exact equipment I wanted I'm quite pleased with the truck!
I bought my F150 super crew with my dogs needs in mind. I have a SERVICE DOG that has bad hip dysplasia and I needed the "flat floor that only Ford offers in their pick up trucks." You can buy A cheap imitation of a flat floor which is made out of fold out cardboard in the wonderful Fiat owned ram pick up truck. "No lumps, No bumps" in the floor of an F150 super crew..
THANK YOU To the designers of the ford F150 super crew cab design! It makes my dog a whole lot more comfortable than a driveshaft tunnel to lay on...

C'mon everyone. The purpose of the recall system is to help keep us safe and recalls are a good thing. By making recalls a negative, we as consumers and the media cause manufacturers to avoid announcing them. As for those calling Ford trucks junk, that's preposterous. They'll sell about 900,000 this year. It'll be near a ewcord year. Are that many Americans so stupid to buy junky automobiles? I've got a 2 year old with the 2.7 Ecoboost. Not a single issue and 24 mpg average. Better than most other brands compacts with 4 cylinder engines. Hardly junk. On the contrary, these are great trucks. This recall is on the new base engine that achieves 19 city and 25 highway. Equal to the midsize Ridgeline and better than Toyota and Nissan 4 cylinder midsize trucks. This truck starts less than 4100 pounds and 290 hp, and its a fullsize truck. Ford is engineering and building great trucks.
