Chevrolet Reveals 2019 Silverado 1500 Z71 Trailboss

2019-Chevrolet-Silverado-001A II

Chevrolet gave the world its first undisguised look at the all-new next-generation 2019 Silverado 1500 pickup truck during a weekend media event at the Texas Motor Speedway. It wasn't there for long; in fact, it was flown in by helicopter, deposited on the main track and driven onstage, then whisked away right after its introduction.

No doubt Chevy wants to keep the more important information about the frame, powertrains, suspension changes and all-new interior for a fuller reveal at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January We'll be there to cover it through stories and videos from the show floor.

From what was shown at Chevrolet's truck centennial celebration in Fort Worth, it looks like there's been plenty of work done to the Silverado's front end, hood and grille, with smoother design lines along the body panel sides and around the wheel wells. We're told the truck in Texas was the new LT Trailboss trim with a 2-inch suspension lift. That means it likely also will have more aggressive tires and high-performance shock absorbers.

There was no mention of powertrains during the reveal, but we've heard that GM is getting aggressive with smaller, turbocharged engines, a possible diesel entry and a wider proliferation of eight- and 10-speed transmissions. We're also assuming a great deal of work has been done to save weight for fuel-economy improvements. Our reporter at the event couldn't get a good look at the bed or get close enough to see if magnets would stick to the bed sides.

Here's what Chevrolet shared in its press release introducing the new pickup:

"The 2019 Silverado 1500 is all new from the ground up and leverages Chevrolet’s experience building more than 85 million dependable, long-lasting pickups. It also reflects feedback from more than 7,000 people on what they wanted in their next truck — the most customer research in the company’s history.

"The 2019 Silverado’s strong, modern design advances Chevrolet’s history of industry-leading pickup design. It’s a legacy built on decades of experience with models such as the Advance Design trucks of the 1950s and the C/K series of the 1960s. Those trucks set the standard for pickup design in their eras, and currently are some of the most coveted vintage trucks on the market. The next-generation Silverado is poised to change the face of trucks again, with a breakthrough design that is unmistakably Chevrolet.

"The new Silverado also delivers improved capability and performance. For example, a higher-grade alloy is used in the roll-formed, high-strength-steel bed floor, contributing to a bed that is more functional and lighter weight. This use of mixed materials and advanced manufacturing is evident throughout the Silverado, resulting in a significant reduction in total vehicle weight and improved performance in many measures.

"As no two truck customers are alike, the next-gen Silverado will offer an expanded range of models, more engine/transmission combinations and more technology and convenience features to help customers find their ideal truck.

"The new Silverado LT Trailboss is one of eight 2019 Silverado models. It integrates the off-road equipment of the Z71 package as well as a two-inch suspension lift. Unlike aftermarket lift kits, the Trailboss suspension is fully tested, validated and warrantied by Chevrolet.

"The 2019 Silverado will make its public debut in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, exactly 100 years after the first Chevrolet trucks were delivered to customers."

Looks Good!!
the 'Lady bug' landed

Silverado fans rejoice..., Time and sales will tell the story..., NAIAS is shaping up to be the most interesting show in some time for trucks...

Only thing they should change is how the front fender comes down into the bumper. They should just bring the front bumper all the way to the wheel well.

Very Nice , I can see one already in my driveway

Did I read correctly - turbocharging.

that's not bad looking at all!

Too bad a bunch of other sites had this info on Saturday when the truck was revealed. PUTC late to the party again... getting more difficult to consider this site as any kind of go-to resource when they're constantly scooped by others, and rely on parroting other sites (e.g. Automotive News) for their stories.

Round wheel wells, turbo engines, aluminum body. Hmmm, that all sounds familiar.

Looks like a bold design for GM. Last two updates were fairly conservative. Anyone looking to standout will buy this truck. Nice work GM.

Looks like a Tundra and a Titan had a baby with Down Syndrome. Absolutely hideous styling.

Now after seeing more pictures, it looks similar to the smaller version-the Colorado. Has some lines similar to the Raptor. That being said, I like it. Finally got round wheel wells. Finally will have, just like the Ford already has, Turbo charged engines. Welcome to the game Chevy.

I’m a diehard ford fan but I have to admit the new Silverado is nice looking truck!

Come on Chevy guys! That's just a ford with a bowtie!
Looks like crap!

Nice looking truck. Looks like GM's designers have found their way outside the box [no pun intended--Haha].

That's how you make an entrance!!

It has a little resemblance or new Tahoe and older Colorado, but in all I like it. I think the Sierra will have a resemblance to the Yukon. If it does, I like because the new Yukon's are nice looking.
As for the wheel wells, i could care-less, because I like the looks of the square wheel wells in my 17.

The turbo charging will be a diesel (which is needed) and a small turbo 4 that will be for people who don't tow or haul much for FE to please our government

Still "HOPING" it will have best V6 in class and 2 small block V8's

Looks promising. Not sure about the turbo charged engines after seeing the issues with the Eco Boost.

I'm sitting here waiting for the Military Grade fans to start complaining about how GM copied Ford with the round wheel wells when they complained for years about the square wheel wells.

Come on, that back end and window is all Tundra. GM recycling ideas from the best truck out there.

From the nose back looks like a Tundra.

Guess I’ll be looking elsewhere for a truck that makes a V8

I love this truck. It has a factory two inch lift, round wheel wells, dual exhaust, great body lines, etc.. I have a 2014 Ram that hasn’t given me a single problem but I have never loved the looks. My buddy just bought at ‘18 F150 that is really nice but it squeaks at every bump it goes over.

This is my next truck. I might even buy it in red!

If you slapped a Toyota emblem on it I would have thought Toyota unveiled there next gen Tundra.

I do like the look though.. but I would still be hard for me to buy a GM truck..

I like it but the nose looks stubby.

Nailed it! GM will sell millions of these. Up next, the Sierra.

JUST ANOTHER GARBAGE FROM GARBAGE MOTOR COMPANY AND IT LOOKS A LOT LIKE AN FORD F150 AND A TUNDRA . THAT THING WANTS TO BE LIKE A FORD F150. THEY ARE TRYING SO HARD AND THOSE ARE THE CONSEQUENCES JUNK JUST JUNK. THE GARBAGE MOTORS FAN GIRLYS NOW THEY ARE GONNA HAVE A FORD F150 PARK ON THEY DRIVEWAYS. AND THATS SO FUNNY KARMA IS A B**CH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

AND NOW THEY ARE USING A TWO BAR GRILL I WONDERING WHERE I HAVE SEEN THAT OH I REMEMBER FORD F150. GARBAGE MOTORS IS DOOMED GOOD BY SECOND PLACE CAUSE RAM IS COMING TO TAKE THAT PLACE HHSHAHAHAHAHAHA.

great looking truck.

I think GM might of hit a home run with this pickup design, we just have to wait and see. I'm a GM truck person all my life but I do think it was time for a change in design and switching to round wheel wells was a good choice.
I hope that not all the Silverado models is aggressive looking as this one.
This truck looks nothing like a F-150. BUT I can see a new super duty's hood. Acturally the F-150 copied the Silverado's double stack headlight design in 2015.
I can see a couple of lines in the pickups box that are similar the tundra but not exact.

I can see a problem waiting to happen with that front fender to bumper piece. It don't look fully attached

2 Bar Grille? Chev had that in 2005, Ford has so many different grilles and keeps changing them,

Nah nah nah they just copy FORD and almost in everything the two bar grill, the BLACK part where the front and back window is Ford is been using that since 2002 on the SUPERCREW and the shaky has been using theirs always painted, turbos, aluminum body, the lettering on the tail gate, the round wheel wells the hole cab including everything. So yeah Pretty much is an FORD F150 MIXED WITH A TUNDRA. AND YOU CALL THE NOT COPYING FORD HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Why'd they copy Ford and Toyota? Looks stupid!

@ waters that was a two part sections of grill that didn’t stretch all the way to the side like fords and besides shakys are well known to have just a single bar grill like they used to. I know all the garbage motors fan GIRLYS are disappointed about their brand but they have to be realist and accept that the shaky looks a lot like the ford .

Overall I like the design, it reminds me of the first generation Silverado which I liked the look of, though this is more aggressive-looking. Not that thrilled with the lights on both ends but whatever. What I really don't like and that goes for every manufacturer is how busy the tailgate is. So many lines and bumps and creases, whatever happened to a flat panel? It used to be nice to put our company logo across the tailgate, which also helped hide or stop scratches and dents (not from shopping carts from you mall-crawlers) but I guess it will have to go somewhere else. Honestly I would pay good money for an aftermarket plain flat tailgate.

Not bad. I do see the resemblance to the current SD hood. Round wheel wells?! ;)
What’s with the front fender dropping over the bumper. The bumper needs to wrap to the wheel well. Maybe pre-production?? That looks weird.

This new Silverado headlights has styling cues reminiscent of the 88-98 GMT400 composite headlights. The grille, bumper and lower air dam styling is from the 99-02 GMT800 Silverado. This is a great looking truck that will appeal to a very wide audience. This design will cement the Silverado as the #1 selling full size model truck and will have Ford scrambling not to lose their #1 selling brand claims.

I keep looking at it and I was like hmmm looks interesting. But then i look at it more and more and I DONT LIKE IT. Looks like a cross between all the other manufacturers.

From what I hear the majority of the truck will still be high-strength steel including the inside of the box. Looks interesting. I can't wait to see the rest of the line.

I see the F150 influence but GM botched it. Only the GM diehards will buy. Ford has nothing to worry about.

It's improved in every way. What's not to like about that?

Alotta Ford cues on the front end. The integration of the bumper into the front fender is cool and the side lines and tail gate stamping work. A 2" lifted version is certainly no Raptor but then again chevy and GMC cant and wont even try to match the raptor and honestly 2" of lift make more sense for more people than a halo super truck with a huge price. Did they finally catch up on engines?

F-150 & Tundra looking, not impressed...

oxi, it's a truck you can only do so much to one, they all look almost the same....

I would like to see a model with all monochrome bumpers, mirrors, door handles and tailgate handles as well as a Sierra before I make final judgement. Older brother is like trade your truck in the 2019 looks awesome. Time will tell.

AT GMSRJUNK DUD STOP IT IS A FAILURE IT UGLY AND IT HAS A LOT OF FORD ON IT SO YOU CAN CRY NOW LITTLE FELLA. CAUSE THE THING IT IS WORST THEN THE PASSED GENERATIONS AND IF THE PREVIOUS GENERATION IT WAS DOING BAD IN SALES THIS THING IS GONNA DO WORST THEY MIGHT BRING SOME NUMBERS UP BUT THEN ITS GONNA GO DOWN THE HILL JUST WATCH.

@Tyler. From the nose back looks like a Tundra.
@Jason S. I like it but the nose looks stubby.

6-9mths ago I said the Tundra looked to have the most compact engine compartment. I used the word snub nosed to describe it. Perhaps this is GM's first effort to reduce the engine compartment too on the full size. Won't be able to tell until the specs really come out for us to see if they have just removed a few inches from the engine compartment alone, or if they have put those inches into the crew or bed area.

There is your answer to why it has failed. LOL. At least we now know your true feelings about Ford and why you can't say nothing good about your own failed brand and have to attack other brands.

Did they finally catch up on engines?

@ Clint

Explain how they need to catch up? They have 2 small block V8's that perform better than Fords turbo V6's. If you mean they need to up the HP more on each engine I totally agree bc ford did this to the 2018 engines.

Im hoping for 40 to 50 HP.

4.3L will have 315
5.3L will have 385...100 more than it had in 99 when they introduced it. I pray for 400 or 410
6.2L will have 460
