2018-2019 Ram 1500: Recall Alert

2018 Ram 1500

By Patrick Masterson

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 4,200 model-year 2018-19 Ram 1500 DS pickups with 3.21:1 axle gears

The Problem: The rear differential may have been insufficiently filled with gear lube, possibly resulting in excessive heat generation and failure. If the rear axle assembly fails, it can cause the loss of drive, or the rear wheels may lock up, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the rear axle oil levels and rear axles with an insufficient amount of oil will be replaced for free.

What Owners Should Do: Ram parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners Oct. 12. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.

Theres an "oops". Sounds like anyone really effected woulda been covered under powertrain.

Couldn't this be addressed before October 12 if you come in for an oil change with the multipoint inspection? Or, just be a man, grab a flat tip screwdriver, and pop the rubber cap out and stick your pinkie finger in the differential. If no oil is there read your owners manual to see what kind of synthetic gear oil you need. Oh yea, DON'T FORGET THE LIMITED SLIP ADDITIVE (FRICTION MODIFIER)!

Toyota isn't the only one making trucks with under-filled diffs after all.

I have a 2017 with the 3.21 rear end. I guess I'm fine, I need to crawl under there and check it out. These trucks come from Mexico I believe, as the new ones are from sterling heights, Michigan while the warren, Michigan site should be down for renovation for the new HD rams and the forthcoming jeep wagoneer and grand wagoneer. You can tell a mexican assembled ram 1500 with a hemi because they only have a single tailpipe in 2018-2019 regardless of trim. I went to look at a 2018 express quad cab cherry red with the black package but was let down when it had single exit exhaust and an open differential. I wanted the limited slip above all else.

The 2019 Silverado will have a problem free release with zero recalls over it's life. It will continue it's sales domination. Mark my words!!

Ford looks like the ignorant ones when they refer to multiple trucks when they brag about "best selling truck for xx years". It's like the brain dead people employed by Ford don't understand how singular and plural work. Oh wait they do, it's just their customers that lack a grade school level education.

Is Bruce another name for tntOnline. The way trucks are counted has been around at least 50 years. Just because you don't like it does not make it wrong.

@ just the truth

So bc u dont agree with what Bruce said; you think he's me?
Wow, good one

Staying on topic. Good job RAM taking care of this!

Don't add friction modifier to gear oil unless your Owners Manual specifically calls for it. Most gear lubes are ready to use right out of the package.

Be sure to check your VIN number to be sure that your particular vehicles diff is requiring special lube. Mine does.

@ tntOnline so you want to start the day with a confrontation. It is sad that you are willing to go into a.battle of the wits completely unarmed.

@ just the truth

Please! Go to your escort forum where you belong!

Again your twisting words!

All I said was you don't agree with him, so you think its me.

You are so clueless!

and you're always looking for a confrontation, but yet never succeed in it! Typical!

With that comeback, you should start your own comedy tour! Maybe then you could afford a truck instead of that 85 escort

Yeah it can really cause you a lot of grief if the diff didn't require it.

It's a good thing ram don't sell a lot of trucks.

Papajim what is the down side to using friction modifier in.an open differential.

@ just the truth

Hey, I'm done trying to explain to your childish nonsense antics.

I didnt defend. I quoted a song and you go on a tantrum, and still are on one!!...Grow up you immature clown!

U constantly call me a pervert, yet u dont know me, but claim to know for a fact that Michael Jackson molested boys?? Are u one of th accusers

Your an absolute !d!ot....move on with your life. Its pathetic how you hold on to things.

@ tntOnline You are without a doubt just a plain keyboard bully. I bet you are about 5-1 and 240 lbs. Scared to say anything in real life. But yet you think you can tell me where to post.

@ just the truth

If u must know. I'm 6 ft 215 lbs and lift and workout 5/days a week. I'm far from a bully. Im Just sick and tired of you spewing lies constantly.

Especially when u twist words around! And on top of that you call me a pervert!! Please, GTFO! Your an embarrassment!

So yes I'll tell u where to go especially when u call me a pervert, when I'm.far from that!! Im a father of 2 kids and I take huge offense to that, Bc they mean the world to me!

If u want to come on here and give some crap and back it up with an article that has actual factual data....then I'm all ears, but you have yet to do that!

And thats the Truth!!
