Ford Releases 2019 Ranger Towing, Payload Numbers

2019-ford-ranger-xlt-supercrew copy II

An information leak has prompted Ford to release the maximum towing and payload numbers for the 2019 Ranger mid-size pickup truck, due on dealer lots soon.

Although we don't have the full list of payload ratings, the 2019 Ford Ranger max payload — likely for the two-wheel-drive extended-cab model — will be 1,860 pounds, meaning the gross vehicle weight rating will likely be around 6,100, the highest of any pickup in the mid-size class.

At the start, the new Ranger will be offered with only one gas engine, with the possibility of a diesel becoming available later. The standard engine will be the 2.3-liter inline-four-cylinder EcoBoost gas engine that is reported to offer 310 pounds-feet of torque, the most torque of any gas engine offered in the mid-size class. (GM's 2.8-liter I-4 diesel found in the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon offers 369 pounds-feet of torque.) The Ranger's 2.3-liter engine will be mated to the new 10-speed transmission now offered in the F-150.

The Ranger also will offer the highest max tow rating (when equipped with the tow package) for any gas-engine small pickup at 7,500 pounds (the Colorado and Canyon have a max tow rating of 7,700 pounds for their diesel engine). That means the Ranger's gross combined weight rating will be in excess of 12,000 pounds, also impressive for the class.

The 2019 Ford Ranger will be produced at the newly refurbished Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne. We'll get our first chance to drive the new pickup in just a few months and will have all the details to you before Christmas.

Nice truck not like the little twins. And hey the Colorado looks like a Chevy equinox. That’s just to shut to garbage motors fan GIRLYS.

@tmgmc hey why? you always bash the ranger that it looks like the taurus. Colorado/cañon looks like a 2010 equinox and they don’t even have real front bumpers they are car bumpers.

tow rating of 7500lbs...again only with 2 wheel drive extended cab...again we will see these trucks towing trailers or boats over weight. Skis, life jackets, coolers, floaters, extra gas etc or smaller trailers loaded with water, food and all the other stuff we pack into them not thinking of that weight.

That pansy says a lot.

Anywho,

This truck is really awesome, nice design. That Raptor Ranger will be hit.

Now we just need HP and Torque numbers. It's got the best towing numbers for a gas powered midsize truck. The GM twins still have the diesels. While I'm glad sub 1500 pickups are making a comeback, I wish the prices were a little more reasonable. Next up, the jeep scrambler. I want to know how FCA is going to give the wrangler platform respectable towing..

@ Frank and Chingon

Looks like an equinox. Keep drinking fellas!

Frank, you said you were done. Please be done, bc you cant read for comprehension to save your @$$!

Here are the power numbers.....not impressive at all

The numbers are quite respectable. It should offer class leading acceleration empty and towing. If it can achieve an EPA rating of 20/26, that will be impressive.

20/26 4x4 that is.....

The brand new TNTGMC proclaimed game changing, soon to be dominating Silverado finishing 3rd in the 2019 Edmunds 1/2 ton comparison test is even less impressive. And, quite sad.... #truth

Already an impressive truck!

@2.7L

Wow, here we go again. The Edmunds review was sponsored by RAM! Unreal

This truck isn't even out yet and you Ford guys are already claiming best in class nonsense. Keep drinking that kool-aide.

You guys 2-3 months ago claiming this little 2.3L will have way over 300HP......well your a bit off, very disappointing! LOL!

I think the turbo 4 is the way to go in the mid-size market and I hope we'll see the new GM 2.7 in the Colorado/Canyon before to long.

The payload for the GM's and Ford seems unnecessarily high. Why do you need a 3/4 to nearly one-ton capacity in a mid-size truck. I thought the purpose of this market was to get a reasonably capable truck that was better on gas at a cheaper price. Now, we have 3/4 ton mid-size trucks.

"The Edmunds review was sponsored by RAM!"

The Chevy still lost to the Ford. [Queue sad trombone]

Haha--you'll get over it.

@ Redblood

I never was on it?? I wasn't one who brought it up??? Man, you guys are losing it!

Just like all your Ford trucks do in a non biased comparison..lose it!

Class leading.....lmfao!!!!

TFL HAS the specs on the I six duramax

TO BAD FORD HAS TO USE A MAZDA ENGINE IN THE NEW RANGER. THOUGHT THEY WOUD HAVE CUT THE UMBILICAL CORD ON THE NEW U.S. RANGER. CAN'T LEAVE THE MAZDA ROOTS.

The 2.3 turbo is perfect for the Ranger, even if only w/six speed auto. The turbo really broadens the powerband for acceleration and towing.

With the 10 speed it's ideal for most kinds of driving.

Would love to see Ford offer the Ranger in an off road trim that included a beefed-up six-speed, because I'm not convinced the 10 speed has the guts for real towing and off-roading.

Don't take the Ranger into the woods, or you will have to find a Ranger to get you out.

Photo editing?

The top photo appears legit. Nothing untoward.

The second photo looks edited. The truck looks photo-shopped, even the dirt bikes look like they were added to the back of the truck.

Ford marketing guys need to take a lesson from the guys who do the artwork for the RAM ads.

"Man, you guys are losing it!"

But I never lost my sense of humor! 3rd place, hahahahaha!!!!!

What a world.

**** that ****es me off
traffic
talking with dogs
cars with **** hanging out the tailgate
Get a real truck or use a trailer. Something that can carry a sheet of plywood flat on the deck with the tailgate shut. Anything smaller is for groceries and accountants that shake hands like fish commuting from the office tower to feel like a real man again. Real trucks don't have back seats. Regular cab or die

Just to bland looking for my tastes, needs some more style and grunt.

Here is the article for the baby Duramax

Impressive numbers!!

cant wait for comparison

"Impressive numbers!!"

Until Ford cranks up the PowerStroke to 460 lbs./ft.

I see my little Chingon is being a naughty little boy again!! *giggles* I just luv it when he is naughty like that!!

@ Redblood

Class leading right?? LMFAO.....

such nonsense

What's that have anything to do with the Ranger? Please stay on topic

"such nonsense"

is a brand new 3rd place design!

Wow, after all this wait this thing comes up well short of the class leading torque and fuel economy of the GM mid size twins. DOA.

Ahhhaaa haaa

The 2019 Silverado, the brand new, clean sheet design that GMShills claimed to be a game changer finishes in last place.

TNTGAY is crying into his BF boyfriends gaped hole.

Dangit son... 7500lbs with a 4 banger just 200 lbs under the diesel in the gm twins.
When you F with Ford, you get knocked the F out.

Her response was that it was Sponsored by RAM, I wonder what her response is when Chevy wins and is sponsored by Chevy.

She has issue, yet I ignore her but she comes at me for more, just like her mamajim.

Pathetic people.

Hi Cheerleader,
Maybe you should put your pom-poms and wait for a real review.

@ brick and frank

I never said it was a game changer. Again. Wait for comparison test thats not biased. We will see who is laughing......I bet it won't be u ford guys crying about tongue weight! Lmfao.

Class leading nonsense. Lol! Pathetic.

Being that the V6 in colorado needs to scream to 6800 rpm for 300 hp, the Ranger will get more power down low a la F-150.

The race is already over....Ranger Won.

Mark my words.

No diesel, that sucks. No 6ft box option. At least the GM midzise is available with a crew cabling box option, not the little toybox on the Ranger. Oh well, maybe next year I can actually have a Diesel long box Ranger. Wait and see I guess.

@robt ryan

the Ford six speed has been in F150s since 2009 if I remember correctly. You can be sure that aftermarket vendors have developed bulletproof add-ons for that box.

The Ram is a very nice truck. The Points they made on the Silverado were very realistic. You ran your mouth that it would dominate. It didn't even beat the 5 year old F-150. Only Kool-aide here is yours son.

Not sure what the Ranger curb weight is, but if it's around 4,600lbs SuperCrew 4x4, towing anything much over 6,000lbs is crazy!!

I never said it was a game changer. Again. Wait for comparison test thats not biased. We will see who is laughing......I bet it won't be u ford guys crying about tongue weight! Lmfao.

Great video and review

The the truck looks amazing and it will be a game changer!

Pickup trucks get that half ton comparison done ASAP!

Well done!

Posted by: TNTGMC | Aug 13, 2018 4:11:57 PM

Ummmm.......okay dude.

All of u need to see the truck in person and relax! Totally different in person.
GM will.sell hundreds of thousands of these trucks. Can't wait for the comparison!

BTW...they kept the cabin very similar to the 14-18/models bc customers said they loves the lay out. I personally love the layout. Very simple and elegant. I have no cheap plastic materials in my premium plus SLT. All soft touch leather! Get your heads checked and get facts straight before u spew lies!

More dumb comments

No stick shift, no thanks. Ill wait until the jeep scrambler and/or the new dodge midsize come out.

I wonder how much a new 10 speed will cost out of warranty, not if, but WHEN it decides to blow out, because ford doesn't make things like they used to. Planned obsolescence over customer satisfaction, not that ram or chevy are any better in that regard...

C’mon TNTGMC..., 2.7EcoBoostRoost really got ya here..., just suck it up and move on...
I think The Lawn Ranger driving a Ford Ranger will go over very well until I have to raise prices..., oh well..., just dreaming...
Post Responsibly and Behave

It appears the one engine in the Ranger is going to out do all gas engines in the GM offerings. Some said one engine was not enough but it just maybe.

I think gm truck looks better,,more tuff,,,if they look like the on in Mexico I don't think is the best looking truck ,,

@ 2.7L and lawn ranger

Really...wow...again a biased review. The ram is a great truck not saying that but everyone is knocking new truck so far just bc of interior.

U can brag all u want..IDC...when they do a non biased comparison hear on PUTC. Thats what I want

And saying my comment about the interior is dumb is as crazy as u claiming your junk 2.7,L can hang with my 6.2L. Keep dreaming.
