Ford Releases 2019 Ranger Towing, Payload Numbers

2019-ford-ranger-xlt-supercrew copy II

An information leak has prompted Ford to release the maximum towing and payload numbers for the 2019 Ranger mid-size pickup truck, due on dealer lots soon.

Although we don't have the full list of payload ratings, the 2019 Ford Ranger max payload — likely for the two-wheel-drive extended-cab model — will be 1,860 pounds, meaning the gross vehicle weight rating will likely be around 6,100, the highest of any pickup in the mid-size class.

At the start, the new Ranger will be offered with only one gas engine, with the possibility of a diesel becoming available later. The standard engine will be the 2.3-liter inline-four-cylinder EcoBoost gas engine that is reported to offer 310 pounds-feet of torque, the most torque of any gas engine offered in the mid-size class. (GM's 2.8-liter I-4 diesel found in the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon offers 369 pounds-feet of torque.) The Ranger's 2.3-liter engine will be mated to the new 10-speed transmission now offered in the F-150.

The Ranger also will offer the highest max tow rating (when equipped with the tow package) for any gas-engine small pickup at 7,500 pounds (the Colorado and Canyon have a max tow rating of 7,700 pounds for their diesel engine). That means the Ranger's gross combined weight rating will be in excess of 12,000 pounds, also impressive for the class.

The 2019 Ford Ranger will be produced at the newly refurbished Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne. We'll get our first chance to drive the new pickup in just a few months and will have all the details to you before Christmas.

Really no 6' box on this release. That's a JOKE, right? Wow, I'm really surprised some here are all that excited. The bar just keeps getting lower. For those that don't tow, we can care less about all the fancy numbers and comparisons. Those motorcycles in the photo are kids bikes, 110cc 2stroke or 230cc 4stroke and smaller. Totally underwhelming, but I never really expected anything earth shattering from the Ranger.

I'll pass, and wait for Tesla to show something in a few years, and keep renting when I really need a truck, or buy something used. Taco clearly doesn't have to worry about Ranger coming in and taking a big size of market for the entire of CY2019. The only savior is that the Ranger doesn't have a >$30k entry point like the Ridgeline, otherwise we'd know what they'd sell in 2019. Genius Ford executives, clearly still listening to the same marketing people that said there was no midsize market.

Oh, I noticed another 2 Tesla chargers at the hotel nearby. The count is up to 16 chargers. Last week I only saw 14, but this week the construction crew cleared out and I saw 2 more.

Just hope Tesla can keep churning them out, so the other automakers will keep moving forward with their EV market developments. Yah, Sedan sales have tanked for the established automakers because Tesla has taken away their share. Ha.

Clearly those people in Michigan don't know the Ca market let alone the Si Valley Market. I see a ton of Indians driving electric in Silicon Valley because they know over the long term how much money they can save by not going to the pump, and utilizing work chargers. Indian culture I've observed over years and they are quite frugal in general, and good for them.

The only savior is that the Ranger doesn't have a >$30k entry point like the Ridgeline,

@Angelo

Don't be silly! Finding any Ranger under $33k between now and this time next year will be nigh unto impossible.

Until Ford dealers have surplus trucks on their inventory they will be demanding "loaded" Rangers, not entry priced models.

⬆ Fake News ⬆

The Ranger will sell as fast as the dealer's can get them. The most traded in truck will be Colorado.
The Ranger was the delivery truck of choice every parts store had one. The Colorado didn't get to fill that hole.

@ 2.7L and lawn ranger

Really...wow...again a biased review. The ram is a great truck not saying that but everyone is knocking new truck so far just bc of interior.

U can brag all u want..IDC...when they do a non biased comparison hear on PUTC. Thats what I want

And saying my comment about the interior is dumb is as crazy as u claiming your junk 2.7,L can hang with my 6.2L. Keep dreaming.

You really can't be an adult. I have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, but your reputation and childish comments are well documented. A review is biased when the Chevy doesn't win, but complete "fact" when they do. Gotcha dude. I will not dispute your claim that the new Silverado has a pretty bad interior. It clearly was a bad miss on such an important product. Thank's for owning something finally. You understand a review is just an opinion or a collective group of opinions right? It is also well documented that a 2.7 is a very reliable, award winning and highly acclaimed engine that can, in fact, hang with the much larger 6.2 GM engine. FACTS. Not a biased opinion filled with lies like you constantly make.

The 2.7 Ecoboost is faster than a 6.2. The 2.7 will not tow as much as the 6.2 but empty is faster then thru quarter mile. If you have a 6.2 and don't believe this find someone with a 2.7 and try it.

Listen Brad Paisley's song ONLINE and you will understand why some call him tntOnline.

@alex

So why not enunciate your point instead of just using icons?

@ Angelo Ridgeline is more complexed then other midsized trucks.
You have rear independent suspension that the others don't have.
It's unibody vs body on frame construction. Base interior is better.
Remember it's has Pilot interior and layout pretty much up front.
It also has the unique in-bed trunk that's standard.
So the base Ridgeline is very well appointed compared to other base model trucks. When you get other loaded trucks their prices are near Ridgeline top. Compare Ridgeline price to three row crossover Suv like Pilot,Highlander and Explorer.

It's Ford, inflated towing numbers are expected.

@ 2.7L

Childish comments? Please I atleast give credit where its due...u are so ford biased its sad. All u guys claiming this ranger will beat down GM twins along with Tacoma is ridiculous.... But I'll keep laughing

Please.....if tables were turned and GM sponsored that review you would be crying like baby. I just want to see a great comparison!
As for a 2.7l faster than a 6.2L

They aren't. My brother in law has one. I have raced it and won! So until u have one and race it.....don't talk Sh@!

@ 2.7L

As for your claim that I make false comments?? I have given u articles after articles that they aren't. I have in REAL life tested and it lost.

BTW...your using 2 turbos compared to ALL naturally aspirated engine. You ford guys are clowns when it comes to this.

Like I've said...put a supercharger on that 6.2L

Oh wait gm does in their camaro...beats all muscle cars..even hellcat

And the corvette which beats your ridiculously priced Ford GT.

Anything else u want to comment on?

@2007ridgeline

You've just described a car shaped like. a truck.

Aint be on here a while ford girls still crying and talk up junk that isn't even for sale yet? Yup looks like it, guess I'll hop in one of my GM trucks and go make some money while the ford girls sit here all night talking because their junk thats broke or still dream bout the truck they need but ford still aint got for sale yet! LMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I own two dependable Honda's. I have nothing against the Ridgeline! Except for its' 4' 11.5" long bed. I have to have 6' 2" minimum or I can't commit.

@Angelo

You've just described a car shaped like a truck, with a longer bed. Why not just buy a car?

I really wanna see it tow 7500lbs just like I wanna see an F150 tow 13000lbs. I guess the J2807 have some loop holes to fix.

@uh huh

Why not just get a Cummins powered RAM 2500?

It will tow 7500 and 13000. No sweat. Looks good while doing it.

Last a long time too.

You direct a post at me and then reference nothing I posted. I don't even know what gibberish you're whining about with all this sponsored crap. The 2019 Ram beating the Silverado was an ad? Like I'd care if the Silverado beat the Ram. You're eating your words of how the the Silverado will be a game changer. By at least one early review, it's not. Maybe it will win everything else? I really don't care. This is a post about the Ranger and it's numbers, to which you had to chime in that your unimpressed, a lot like Edmunds was unimpressed with the 2019 Silverado. I get it clown, you're a poor sport. BTW, TFL still has the 2.7 faster than the 6.2 in their running 0-60 ranking. Again, not that I care. It's really irrelevant as most of the trucks today are quick. You just can't handle the truth. 2 turbos...okay. Over twice the displacement......you need to get a life clown.

@ 2.7L

U brought it up. U call me a clown? Really. All u ever do is try to one up me.

Your just jealous bc u drive an inferior truck. Move along.

As for game changer. Maybe it will maybe it won't. The fact that a V8/ naturally aspirated engine can get just as good or better FE plus have better Performance is a game changer!

Your an embarrassment.

Towing and hauling... 2 things pretend trucks rarely get tasked with and their owners don't care about.

If you wanna dethrone Toy focus on making it durable, comfortable, fast, fun, good looking and above all cool or cheap... that would be a first in a long time. A small truck that is actually inexpensive.

As for Ranger article. I was in topic. U went off and changed subject that I posted gm truck would be game changer

I answered by stating a article by Edmund's was biased and hosted by RAM. What questions did I not answer?

U need to stay on topic and not try to call me or any other GM guy out. Its rather lame bc your argument along with frank and his 20 usernames is the true childish comments

Get a life dude. You are so full of yourself it's sad. You're like one of those DC protesters just screaming at the top of your lungs. We hear you, we're just not listening. You constantly insert your foot into your own mouth with gibberish false narratives. You call everyone jealous, but YOU are the one who CAN NOT help himself from posting off topic constantly with negative jealous remarks on Ford articles. I do not do that. FACT!! I am very happy with my truck. You can call it inferior if that makes you feel more accomplished in your life, that's a sign of someone who feels threatened. I could care less if you have a $1.5 mil mansion and 3- 6.2 Denalis. I'm good with where the Good Lord has taken me in life. I'm blessed.

Here are the power numbers.....not impressive at all

Posted by: TNTGMC | Oct 5, 2018 1:02:45 PM

This is you jealous boy. CONSTANTLY!! You talk about how mighty your 6.2 is, but can't leave it at that. You are definitely a clown pal. You make up childish names like Raptaurus or whatever. What kind of a man would do that? Answer: no man.

Posted by: 2.7EcoBoostRoost |

@ 2.7L

Exactly....I was talking about the Ranger

There not impressive bc you and the rest of your hood winks claimed that it would make over 300HP.

Please stop being an absolute clown and move on with your life.

I kept the topic about ranger. You changed it..wow!

Really? I brag about my 6.2L. Hmm. I think its called confidence!

Something you lack....a ton of!!

My 6.2L gets as good and better FE than either ecoboost ford produced and with 2 times the displacement! Thats a game changer! And I have 60+ years of small block heritage behind me from GM. Something you Ford guys can't say

So who is the fools and clown buying an inferior engine! YOU!

Have a great day!

I never said it would make 300 hp. I never even offered a guess. More TNT fake news. More childish TNT name calling. Wash, rinse, repeat. TNT style.

I am 100% satisfied with my truck, it's abilities and the engine performance. Not sure why you gotta keep attacking people. That's a weird "confidence" you display dude.

The EPA rates the 6.2 @ 15/20.

@2.7L

I dont have time to look back months of forum nonsense. But many of u ford boys made huge claims over 300 HP. It doesnt come close. thats why I said not impressive. Yet again, u change subject, talking about how I said the new gm trucks are game changers?! Look into mirror and insert foot!

I can't have a normal conversation with u bc u have stated over and over how your little 2.7L is better than a 6.2L. Dont lie....u have....its absolutely ridiculous! But yet again that's your opinion

Attack? You have attacked me from day one claiming I'm a liar on mpgs my 6.2L gets. My wife just took kids shopping this weekend and got round trip with 75 mph interstate driving and in town doodling around and it achieved 21.5 mpgs. I dont lie. Thats with 95 HP more than you and and 60 plus TQ....yes thats game changer.

I'm glad u like your truck. Good for u. But dont come on here calling me a liar and then changing the topic and say I need to stay on topic.

Its quite embarrassing bc we can all see u changed the subject

Anything else? If not move along..

@ 2.7L

Congrats.... Real world says I get better

Real world says 6.2L outperforms ecoboost engines.

Real world Duramax dominates power stroke!

Have great night.

A 2.7 does not hang with a 6.2 it will flat out run it. That is funny I don't care who you are.

Have great night.

Posted by: TNTGMC | Oct 8, 2018 6:42:50 PM

Proving you wrong numerous times always makes for a great night. The fact that you run with it is just icing on the cake! Thanks!!

@ 2.7L

Proving me wrong? Ha

OK....if it makes u sleep better at night. Whatever. U believe fords lies..
So I'm not surprised.

Thanks for the laugh

I might believe some of Ford's lies, but I'll never believe your lies. Which, is to say, pretty much everything you type under your various names.

I'll be disappointed if the Ranger doesn't achieve 21/26 in 4WD trim. The F-150 4WD gets 19/24 with the 2.7/10 spd so if it can't do better, all the reason to drop the award winning 2.7 under the hood! C'mon Ford!!

@ 2.7l

Again. I could care less what you think...I dont lie...I have one username its in blue. I post facts and u can't handle it...thats the truth

How about u look at your ford hoodwinks. They always post under other usernames.

Award winning 2.7L. Lmfao!!

And btw....the ranger looks like a Taurus. Always will and that's why it upsets u so bc ford couldn't come up with a great design. That's pathetic

The 2019 Ford Ranger doesn't just raise the bar pal, it is the bar!

Those are big numbers for a small wheelbase truck, for the sake of bragging.

Best of my knowledge, unless somebody corrects me, there is no crew cab longbed to compete with Colorado?

I guess I'm the only one who think it looks good.
I always though F.O.R.D. styling on the ranger was on point.
And the payload is impressive. Of course, it's F.O.R.D. and they've been know to take bumpers off and things like that to up their payload numbers so who really knows? I guess you're probably not going to max it out with a 5' box anyway.
