Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R To Race In Best In The Desert Off-Road Series

The Raptor R race truck, the same truck that finished 3rd in Class 8 at the Baja 1000 last November, will be running in the 2009 "Best In The Desert" off-road racing series.

The BITD Raptor R, based on the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, will be a private effort run by veteran off-road racers Rob MacCachren and Steve Olliges. MacCachren has won over 100 events and 15 championships in his career to date. Olliges has 30 class wins as well as seven off-road championships. Both drivers have also won their respective classes in the prestigious Baja 1000 during their careers.

The Raptor R is powered by a specially modified and calibrated 500 horsepower version of the production 6.2-liter V-8 engine and is mounted to a production-spec six-speed automatic F-150 transmission.

Ford will have access to the BITD race truck to gather engineering data for the continued development of the production Raptor and to create a catalog of off-the-shelf Ford Racing Performance Parts to be available after the vehicle launches this summer.
