Road Test Review: 2009 GMC Canyon SLE V-8 4x2

Road Test Review: 2009 GMC Canyon SLE V8 4x2

Following our comprehensive review of the 300 horsepower, 320 pounds-feet of torque 5.3-liter V-8 powered 2009 Chevy Colorado is our take on its eight-cylinder mid-size twin, the 2009 GMC Canyon V-8.

Mike Hanley says:
"There's no question the lowered V-8 Canyon is a peculiar edition of this truck, with its low stance and snorting engine, but it will get the thumbs-up from the street-truck crowd because it drives like a muscle car — fun and fast — and can do a little work when needed."

This also marks the first time we're posting road tests and first drives in our new review page layout, so you'll have better access to detailed information about the trucks we report on

It's a gorgeous truck, and the V8 almost makes for a compelling buy...but lets get real on the price! Yikes...a $31K little truck. I think it will be a tough sell at anything over $25K. Expect large discounts.

Did GMC give any 0-60 or ET est? I know it's a truck, but in reality, with this kind of lowered 2WD pickup, that is what buyers will want to know. If it doesn't ET much better than the competition then it won't sell.

GM has a real performance focus in finally getting some muscle under the hood of the formerly anemic Canyon, but they insist on their anal retentive body style restrictions by not offering the V8 in the regular cab Canyon. Come on GM, the truck is on the same assembly line, it wouldn't cost anything to do it. Let's have a regular cab Canyon.

A V8 does not make the truck any better.

The Tacoma will still outsell the Colorado/Canyon combined.

And since this truck will lack a manual transmission, it will not be as fast as a Tacoma X-Runner. You can get the X-Runner for under $25k and have room to install the supercharger before you hit the price for the Colorado/Canyon and still out perform those trucks.

As usual GM is 2-3 years behind the ball. This V8 canyon will disappear quicker than the H1 Hummer. THEY SHOULDVE MADE A 2DR. SS MODEL(With Xtreme ZQ8 suspension) Time to convert to FORD....Dont buy anything run by OBAMA cronies !!! Wasnt the YUGO also owned by a socialist govt?

I have the exact model as shown in picture, blue, v8, much more. This truck is a beast! I only wish the truck came as a SS model, with a floor stick shift. This truck runs! And is a workhorse!
