A diesel-powered Dodge Ram 1500 has been delayed, but the hybrid Hemi version is definitely happening for 2010. Our spy photographers caught it running undisguised in public during final testing.

The so-called two-mode hybrid powertrain was co-developed with GM, Mercedes and BMW. It’s the same setup found in the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra gas-electric hybrid pickups.

GM is supplying Chrysler with the advanced two-mode transmissions that will be used. The electrically variable gearbox houses two 60kW electric motors that can power the truck on their own up to about 25 mph, depending on driving conditions. As the multi-displacement 5.7-liter pushrod Hemi V-8 gas engine kicks in, the electric motors will seamlessly support it, individually or in tandem, at low and high speeds, helping the engine enter fuel-saving four-cylinder mode sooner and stay in it longer to achieve maximum gas mileage. Regenerative braking is used to capture energy that would normally be lost during braking or deceleration. The energy is stored in the batteries for later use.

The GM full-size hybrids can tow up to 6,100 pounds. The Ram is expected to tow about the same amount.

I think the truck looks decent.

At least they are putting it in a SLT form so, the average joe might have a change of affording it.

Its a good thing gm is putting one of there trannies into the ram for this model. If you know about Dodges transmission record.

that's why it comes with a warranty

The reason the Ottawa gov't has dismissed Chrysler is because they know Chrysler will take the money and make cars in Europe & China.

You never heard of take the money & run? I guess you missed all that phony Wall Street meltdown crap.

The Ottawa gov't is much smarter than the US gov't because they know the only losers will be the auto workers union.

Of course, GM isn't taking their money and going overseas, right?
Read the news before you comment

I agree!
GM's management fantasy has always been to have cars made in Europe, Japan & China with their name on the vehicles. They just sell the vehicles here.
Presto! No union to mess with!
This is exactly what the plan is for GM & Chrysler!
Grab the money, flush out the auto workers union, give each other huge bonuses and laugh all the way to the bank!
Just like Wall Street!

Here is my point of view for being in any car/truck related website and making comments:
GM, Ford and Chrysler failed miserably to change with the times like Toyota & Honda. Even Hyundai does better in sales than GM & Chrysler.
GM & Chrysler have been failing miserably since 1976.

Their management is proud of their lack of insight and responsibility to the customers. Most of all they are proud of their greed and utter disregard for customers' needs.
They just blame the auto workers union for the big mess they created by their greed!

To with, GM, Ford & Chrysler are not tooo big to fail. They have already failed! They should be put to sleep quietly!

CoyoteMan:

Since 1976 Chrysler & Genral Motors have not been failing miserably.

In fact they were trying to change. Chrysler invented the minivan (something people wanted). They do care for customer's needs, they dont blame the autoworkers, just they wanted to cut their pay which was way too much in the first place, (I dont even know how it got that high)

They havent failed yet, Do you see them going into bankruptcy? NO. So CoyoteMan Stup The F*** Up.

They never would just take the money and run, they proved this way back in the Great Depression, when Chrysler paid back their loans seven years early, faster than GM & Ford (No Offense).

So CoyoteMan SUCK IT!

i love dodges rams and i got one and a charger but their not ment to be hybrids sure its better gas but thier not as powerfull

Donald: The hybrid Durango and Aspen are more powerful than their conventional Hemi counterparts, so it's reasonable to assume the Hemi Ram may be, as well. Allpar claims the hybrid Ram setup will be "nearly identical to the Hemi hybrid setup used on the Durango and Aspen hybrids."

Coyoteman:

Hyundai does not do better in sales than G.M and Chrysler, are you sniffing glue?

Chrysler was the most profitable car company in the 1990's until Mercedes rapped them.

What greed ? Every company needs to make a profit,so Toyota/Honda/Hyundai are greedy in your mind since they make a profit,or maybe not anymore they are hurting too.I guess Toyota is greedy since the Japanese government gave them money to produce hybrid cars they have.(prius).

As you say change with the times,Toyota lost money developing the new Tundra and large SUV that are duds now, they too got caught with their pants down, please educate yourself before you make ignorant comments.

Full size trucks still are on the top of the best sellers list..

Just wanted to add if no company made a profit you would not have a job.Just because a company makes a profit does not mean its greedy..get it..You need to make a profit,do you go to work and not make a profit,if you collect a pay cheaque I guess you are greedy..

And it will be made in MEXICO and if I ever need a pick up I will not get one from MEXICO. So there will not be a DODGE in my drive way.

I was thinking of buy the Dodge Hybrid but because it is not all Chrysler built , I will not buy the Hybrid as I don't like GM's quality of there Vehicles, So thumbs down to Chrysler for even joining with GM for this venture.

I WANT IS TRUCK

would gm and chrysler build more cars in the u.s. if unions didn't exsist? how much does the unions cost manufacturing? it's to late anyway. unions shot them selves in the foot. don't forget the other guys that were partners on the hybrid development.

u guys should all shut up and suck it atleast they are making an effort to help the environment and keep power for buyers interests i love dodges own 3 of them myself including a 2009 challenger srt 8, 2010 dodge ram 2500 diesel, and a 2010 dodge ram 1500 hemi and they all perform better then any ford or chevy i test drove!!!
