Spied! Jeep J8 Pickup In Michigan
It looks like the folks at American Expedition Vehicles are up to something. Perhaps a safari?
Our friends at Jalopnik received photos of two specially equipped Jeeps outside AEV's offices in Michigan. The first Jeep spotted was an olive green Wrangler JK Unlimited SUV and the second a desert tan J8 pickup.
Neither Jeep is currently available for civilian buyers in the configurations spotted. Both appear to have snorkels feeding VM Moturi 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engines, the same motor formerly offered in the Jeep Liberty compact SUV in 2005 and 2006, but canceled due to stronger federal emissions standards.
The Jeep J8 pickup is a military-spec support vehicle built to serve a variety of missions in the field, from troop carrying to ambulance services. But it's not for American soldiers or the general public: The J8 is manufactured in Cairo, strictly for the Egyptian army.
For lots more pics, head over to Jalopnik. We're going to go dream about the Jeep J8 Sarge concept.

Maybe someday Jeep (Chrysler) will pull there heads out of there rears and build the Jeep Wrangler pickup then perhaps they would not need a bailout . I would sure like to have one .
@ taylor...i would love one too...but itd be bad for marketing bc the only way for it to have success would be at the expense of the 1500
although that 2.8 liter diesel might help alot
Isn't this the same as when they made the JEEP XL the stretched out version?
Why don't they bright back the Jeep Comanchee and it is a bad market to even make anytype of new vechile. Stick with the ones you have for now and fix them. And get rid of the ones that don't work. Wait in till the market gets better for new ideas. There's to many dumb vechiles out thereas there is. Simple is better.
Nice Share, Thanks

I just saw a red one today in a empty parking lot of a motel just South of Harrisburg, PA. It did not have the extended cab of the prototype, just the single cab. I do not remember seeing the side-mounted spair tire either. The driver pulled away before I could take a closer look, and the engine did not sound like a Diesel.
So...I'll have to go to egypt to purchase an american jeep pick up with a diesel engine?......things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmn!
william smith thayer-
That is the price we pay, as Americans, for having a government that cares about our health and the air we breathe. Without strict regulations on vehicle emissions, any old gross polluting motor would be allowed in this country and we would have worse air quality. I am talking from the Los Angeles, CA region.
Mr. Thayer,
It's that mindless clap trap that keeps us from being the best. Diesel engines are cleaner and better for the environment. But, apparently you want so many regulations and restrictions that our companies leave America and all the jobs we desperately need for other countries. Good job. The J8 is a beautiful vehicle and everything that outdoors folks like me would want. But thanks to Liberal idiots like you, Egypt gets them. Way to go dufus. Way to go.
