GM Ends Production of Medium Duty Trucks

GM Ends Production of Medium Duty Trucks

As reported by our friends at Automobile, the last GM medium duty truck rolled off the assembly line last week in Flint, Mich. The white GMC Top Kick C7500 was the 205,790 GMT-560 built during an eight-year production run.

GM had been in negotiations with Isuzu and Navistar to sell its Top Kick and Chevrolet Kodiak Class 5-7 commercial truck business but a deal was never closed to save the line.

Ford and Chrysler have found success in this segment with medium duty pickups and chassis cabs that are closely related to their three-quarter-ton and one-ton pickups. Even Nissan has announced its intent to try to gain a slice of this lucrative business. Could GM eventually return to the segment with a new offering similar to Ford's and Chrysler's? Stay tuned.

In the meantime, we'll raise a toast to the last of GM's large work trucks.

Leave the hard work to Ford they are the only 1z who really have it. nissan and trucks, yuk elou nasty, no just no. if todays nissan "trucks" suck like they do just imagine medium duty nissans ( probaly be based off chrystler) thats just wrong man just wrong.

Umm.. whats wrong is your inability to construct any sentence or paragraph that makes any sense to the average reader.

Ford Fanboi's like you make me want to just junk my old 97 F-150 instead of fixing her.

this is disapointing! I always wanted a Kodiak Pick Up truck (built by Monroe trucks). I guess I could always hope for a used one.

I, too, have always wanted one of those. I would have liked one like the truck in Transformers, a GMC Topkick in black with subtle modifications. A neighbor of mine has a blue one, and it is a little intimidating to get near. (That's the reason I want one) I've always thought they looked better than the Fords...

Like the F550 that our local rescue uses that had to have extra springs added TWICE due to bottoming out...and it wasn't even close to it's GVW!!!

Sad to see them go. The Topkick and Kodiak were real medium duty trucks, not light duty posers like the Ford 450 and 550. Sure, Ford has International build a 650 and 750 for them in Mexico, but outside of the cab there isn't much 'Ford' in them. I have always thought it hilarious that the Ford 650 and 750 use a Cummins (Dodge) engine and Allison (GM) transmission. Guess even Ford knows what is best!

big difference from 450 or 550 compare to top kick ,top kick you fill more safe to pull to controle you load big diference. and is not a pickup.pickup still a pickup nomater what..you change the number..

Huh?

Once again, the fat cats at GM have their heads up their asses. The Kodiaks were the best made mediums on the market.
