Consumer Reports Names Chevrolet Silverado as a Top Pick for 2010

Consumer Reports has selected the Chevrolet Silverado full-size truck as its Top Pick honoree among all 2010 pickups. Top Picks are the best all-around vehicles in their categories and must meet CR's road test, reliability and safety requirements.

"The Silverado 1500 ($37,235) returns to the top of the list after a year off," the magazine said. "The crew-cab 4WD model is a well-rounded pickup with a roomy cabin, generous payload capacity, decent ride quality, available full-time 4WD, and, on higher-end models, very good interior fit and finish. The GMC Sierra is a twin of the Silverado. Reliability has been average."

The Silverado was one of two domestic vehicles chosen in the 10 categories that make up CR's Top Picks.

In earning the award, the Silverado replaces the Chevrolet Avalanche, last year's pickup truck Top Pick.

Well if Consumer Reports say's it, it must be true! Well Ford, Dodge, Toyota fans the GM truck wins again! Let's see, First place on the race track (Nascar) First place in Consumer Reports Top Pick, First place in QRD (Quality, Reliability, Dependability. First place in Fuel Economy 15 city 21 highway for its 5.3 liter 4wdr crew cab. Ford and Dodge are 3 miles behind in fuel economy ratins on their 4wdr models.

First place in beauty of the truck, better looking than Ford, Dodge, Toyota. This is NOT debatable!
GM'S future is very bright!!!!

How much did that cost?

Lets see them report on the same car/truck 5 years from now"Junk" Goverment Motors!!!!!!

On this site, no one can say anything good about GM cause, watch out! Here come the "he-man, Ford-lovin', GM-haters".
We get it.... you think the F150 is the greatest invention of all time...

ht and Dave are just mad cause their favorite truck didn't win. You don't have to be sore losers...

Well I guess when your controlled by the government everything looks, sounds, drives, and rides better.I mean come on if you were the owner of gm would you let anything bad be said about them whether it be true,or not.Hell just look at yota they negotiated with the gov. to limit recalls. My point is that when your controlled by the gov. anything can be said to make them look good. They wouldn't have/keep pouring endless amounts of money into them just to be second best.

Ford fans keep forgetting that Ford took out big loans from the government in 2007. If it had not been for those loans, they would have received a bailout last year as well.

Don't you know that this is a competition and statement on your manhood? If the truck you drive isn't picked, then the rest of the world will know you're a loser and a girlie-man. The only real men in America are the ones whose truck comes out on top. Align yourselves with a brand, gentlemen. Your masculinity is at stake. Let the Games and insults begin!

FWIW - My Dad can beat up your Dad.

I see, the GM fanboys are coming out now... They've been hiding for so long now, finally one positive report, and GM is the best thing ever, and they have to let everyone else know. Ford and Dodge trucks have won pretty much everything else. I can understand why the GM fanboys are so excited. It hasn't happened for a long time for them. One day (in a very long time) the Tundra will win some award. Then we'll hear about how the Tundra is the best truck in the world from the Toyota fanboys. But who cares, buy the truck you want and like.

Taking 5.9 billion in loans as part of a universally available program to upgrade and improve fuel mileage is one thing.

Going to capital hill and begging for 60 billion to cover years of poor management and poor quality and then still falling into bankruptcy is entirely another.

"The GMC Sierra is a twin of the Silverado. Reliability has been average."

I think this quote throws any credibitly they had, out the window. It is amazing the exact same truck, with a different front clip, gets average. I bet the Chevy gets average too.

@Bob. Please drive the trucks before you make a statements like GM outperforms the others by 3 mpg. My 08 Ram gets 15.5 average driving 65mph. My friends 08 Chevy get 16.7 average driving 55mph. In the real world the EPA can't quite get it right.

@smtrthnu

You speak the truth.

i like chevy dodge and gm trucks. i don't consider toyota or nissan true truck makers. i drive an 01 f150. i have nothing against the others until chevy and dodge boys brag about how ford trucks are wussies.... i tell them look at the numbers. you can't be the best truck if you don't sell the most. so chevy, your truck may be top pick this year, but you go nothing on the f150 for sale. you chevy cowards have to bring in gmc truck sales to brag that you sell more. theres a reason why ford has the best selling truck for 20 some odd years... and besides chevy and gmc and dodge are betting for making trucks to race. ford makes trucks for people that actually use them for real men work.

I knew it was only a matter of time before the Ford humping wussies came out to attack or defend Ford. What these nimrods don't realize is that when they say best selling truck, Ford is talking about F-series and not the F-150. The Chevrolet Silverado is actually the best selling half ton.

Then these nimrods attack GM from taking LOANS from the government to stay in business. What company wouldn't take a loan to stay in business? Ford would have done the same thing to stay in business if they needed to. So don't act so self righteous because GM took loans. The gov. has loaned many banks and businesses money to stay afloat and save jobs. GM rules and FORD drools!!!

Ford sells more truck by brand then GM.

However, GM fanboys can take this one home. Enjoy!!

Why do ford fanboys always bring their #2 trucks to every article?

Allistar, For example: If Ram would come out with "The best Truck" Better towing, better MPG, lots of options, I mean better everything and also best in reliability, So would they be the best selling pickup in US? I don't think so, people still would critisize it one way or another, So quanity doesn't represent quality.

I think all the haters need to get a life, nobodies skewing anything. People just get upset when the truck they spent all their money on doesn't make the cut.

wow some people cant take the true....gm is a good truck a real truck...

"wow some people cant take the true....gm is a good truck a real truck" - miath

I won't argue with you here. GM makes a good truck, but Ford and Dodge do it better.

"Why do ford fanboys always bring their #2 trucks to every article?". - Lex

Obviously someone is ill-informed.

I see the Silverado Brand being #2.

Ford Brand is #1.

GMC Brand is out of the question, I think the Tundra outsold that brand.

Frank, I'm talking about dependability, reliability, and quality. That makes GM #1 ford #2 but Ram with cummins beats any ford!!!!

"Frank, I'm talking about dependability, reliability, and quality. That makes GM #1 ford #2 but Ram with cummins beats any ford!!!!" - Lex

Please show me proof. Do you have any links?

I will withold judgement until you back up you're statement.

Bring it on!!!!

Frank, I have had over 10 different trucks of my own, I also have lots of friends who drive fullsize trucks, and around 6 of them do hot shots or 3-4 car haulers, so I know exactly where these trucks stand. I don't have any links but feel free to check the service bulletin board and especially compare the superduty.

As usual. No links to support you're arguement. Why must I search for links to back up you're crummy opinion.

I am eager to know how GM is #1 in dependability, reliability, and quality.

I need proof. We are waiting

2010 F150 VS 2010 Silverado

Highest Towing Capacity = Ford
Highest Payload Capacity = Ford
Strongest Frame = Ford
Highest Safety Rating = Ford
Interior Quality = Ford
Fuel Economy = Chevy

Don't really see much question about which is the better overall truck. Besides, whoever buys a truck and then complains about fuel mileage shouldn't be driving a truck. If fuel mileage is important drive a 4-banger car and rent a truck from U-Haul or borrow one from somebody when you need one.

i am not going to say whos best and why here-just want to point out that this is the same magazine that used the same mindset to test fabric softener, vaccumn cleaners, and sewing machines etc. I will get my truck input from somewhere else, thank you.

I really don't care what ford has to put on paper, it's just so ford fan boys would feel good about them selfs and have those bragging rights. Both trucks have 5 star crash test, frame is debadeble, and are you saying that consumer report is wrong about Chevy's interior quality?

Just to get in on topic. I'm looking at a new silverado. My current 2001 4x4 at 125,000 miles still runs like new, however not sure if it will be GMC or Chev Silverado, but one thing is for sure it will be a reliable GM product or I will keep the one I have for another 10 years! Hope the F150 Dodges or foreign models will still be on the road that long.

There is nothing that you can do with your f150 then what I can do with Silverado 1500 on a daily basis, couple hundred pounds of towing and payload don't make any difference, at least I save 15% on fuel.

@BOB-You must be on the government plan just like your beloved gm.The next thing we know is we will see you doing ads for ram.Cameron- you need to learn the difference between loan and bailout.

Consumer reports still tells you to buy a Toyota that cant stop also not to smart. They can only rate subarus not trucks. Car and driver, motor trend, edmunds.com and every other testing company rated dodge or ford tops and said gm truck needs to be updated. Dodge has best interior but they ignore this fact I could go on but trust me all the chevy guys want to see new chevy they have nice truck but ford or dodge are way ahead right now im sure pickup.com would agree.

Chevy is the top pick according to the consumer reports. I'm a Chevy fan but a truck is a truck all have their flaws. EPG all depends on your driving style. All I ask is if you live in america buy a american made vechicle. Long term dependabitliy also depends on the kind of care you have for your truck, if you abuse it and ignor mataince then its going to suck but if you take care of it, it will last. ALso if you treat it right you can push the limits of the truck past what the paper says, I have seen trucks pull and hual loads that should have broke them in half for their rating but because they were treated right they did the work.

Last a little view from me, the reason Ford is the best selling truck is because you always have to buy a new one to replace your broken one.

Sc, Good point!

Consumer Reports suckered many of their subscribers into purchasing the Corolla with dangerous handling and the Prius bum brakes. They pushed Toyota’s even though they were well aware of Toyota’s woes (rotted brake lines, rotted frames, bad ball joints and failing camshaft, sticking gas pedals, poorly designed gas pedals, engine sludge issues dangerous engine hesitations, poor accident avoidance speeds, an electronic module that can cause unexplained acceleration, faulty brakes and much more). They did not stop recommending Toyotas until Toyota had a recall. LETS SEND CONSUMER REPORTS A MESSAGE. ****** PLEASE JOIN ME IN *** CANCELING YOUR CONSUMER REPORTS SUBSCRIPTION THIS APRIL. ****

@Bob

That's funny the Toyota Tundra won the Daytona Nascar race!!!

What happened to your precious government brand?

Consumers testing is flawed...

Their testing is not acurate..

Look at how they test their cars..They rate a Sebring as a sports car..

Compare a Hemi Charger against a 4cyl Acura and say the charger is too pricey and takes more gas than the Acura...Duh !!

It has nothing to do with reliability, just their bad opinion...

------------------------------------------------------------------
sc,

GM sells more trucks than FORD because you always have to buy a new truck to replace you're broken truck. 1 of 10 GM Trucks are still on the road today, only 1 made it home.

Tim,

You're about due for a new truck. Chevy's only last 125,000 miles. Time for a new truck. LMAO....

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lex,

I still waiting for a link where GM is #1 in everything. That's right, you got nothing. You and you're post failed, as always.

@ Mrpushrod - You know what, you are right, I should have said the AM performance of the LS was average, not that it handed it very well.

Next time YOU are on live TV, I hope you are able to handle yourself without any missteps.

Of course, from reading your two rants here, it appears you're not really looking for discourse, and instead just interested in screaming.

Regards
Jon

Jon,

Be realistic. You flat out lied.

"1 of 10 GM Trucks are still on the road today, only 1 made it home."

"You're about due for a new truck. Chevy's only last 125,000 miles. Time for a new truck. LMAO...."

Frank
Do you have any links to back up your statement? Chevrolet "longest lasting trucks on the road"
your BS Irony posts FAIL, just like your beloved trucks. Did you looked at service bulletin board as I told you?

What does your ford have to do anything with this subject? OH! they aren't picked as consumers "top pick" well i'm sorry but we all know that. So don't make a fool out of your self and just truck off.

Lex,

It was a joke. Obviously you're too much of dunce to recognize that. LMAO.....

Acutally, I'm still waiting for links from you indicating GM is # 1 in durability, reliablity and I don't know what other mumbo jumbo you spew. However, keep spewing you're opinions nobody listens anyways.

Consumer Reports chose the Silverado as the "top pick". This is the same rag Mag that rates Iron's and Microwaves.

What a joke!!!!

Frank,
Did I ever said that there is some kind of link for durability and reliability? I am the witness of that!!! but of coarse there must be links, except I prefer to see it in person. And when you do find those links then i'm sure that you can find more 1,000,000 mile Chevy's then fords.

Personally I care less what consumer reports have to say since I know where each truck stands and capable of.

"Did I ever said that there is some kind of link for durability and reliability? I am the witness of that!!!". - Lex

This is a B.S. claim. I can say the same, just switch Chevy to Ford and vice versa. If you say GM is #1 at that then back it up. Witnessing it does not count. I witnessed a 2010 Chevy Silverado broken down on the highway. The only way to prove this to you is to take pictures of it. Obviously I have a life to live. Do you get it now. "I am the witness of that" has zero credibility, such a lame post.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"Personally I care less what consumer reports have to say since I know where each truck stands and capable of". - Lex

Apparently you do.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"And when you do find those links then i'm sure that you can find more 1,000,000 mile Chevy's then fords". -Lex

Now you want to talk about 1 million mile Ford/Chevy's. I'm sure there are significant amounts of Fords that have surpassed the 1 million mile mark. Do they post them on the internet? No they don't.

People post their 1 million mile Chevys on the internet because they can't believe it made it that far so they feel they need to share with the world.

Gawd you're dumb!

Frank,
You act as one of those kids from kindergarden "my dad can beat up your dad" GROW UP ALREADY!!!

The reason why that furd don't have alot of 1 million mark miles is cuz there are just a couple lucky ones... furd fanboys are all silmilar, they all like to brag, so posting their ford with high mile is their #1 priority...
It's a fact the GM's 5.7 350 is Americas most successful engine.
You can tell all your ford stories and how bad chevy is to your grandma.

I'm still waiting for Links but yet you fail to provide them, just like everything else you do. FAILURE!!!!

I'm done with you.

Very amusing. We haven't hit February sales figures and the bashing has started. JD Power rated Ford F150, Toyota Tacoma, and Honda Ridgeline as having the best quality.
