Recall Alerts: Nissan Titan and Frontier

Recall Alerts: Nissan Titan and Frontier
By Dave Thomas

Nissan has issued a voluntary recall for two different issues. One recall involves 178,916 vehicles in the U.S. with potentially faulty brake-pedal pins that can become partially disengaged, leading to a loss of braking power. The other recall involves 418,865 vehicles in the U.S. with potentially faulty fuel gauges that at high speeds can show there is more fuel in the tank than there actually is, which can lead to drivers running out of gas. Some vehicles are included in both recalls.

The models affected in the brake recall include:

  • 2008-10 model year Nissan Titan

Models affected in the fuel gauge recall include:

  • 2005-08 model year Nissan Titan
  • Nissan Frontier pickups built between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008.

You can find when your vehicle was produced on a label affixed to the driver’s side doorjamb.

Nissan says no crashes or injuries have been reported due to the recalled parts and that notifications for both will be mailed out this month. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace parts when necessary. Nissan also recommends owners of the vehicles in the fuel gauge recall to keep their gas tanks well fueled until the repairs are made.

Customers with questions should contact Nissan at 800-647-7261.

sucks for them...it just seems like they are just loosing ground to the big 3. at least not as bad a toy-ota....only thousands and not millions.

Re: billiejoe:
Yeah, thats just because they don't sell any! HAHA!!!

how about some more congessional hearings since bashing the Japanese seems to be the In Vogue thing to do.

my nissan dealer always has fresh gourmet coffee and gumdrops. yeah.
sometimes, if the work takes a while, they give me movie tickets.

@ lou

if ford had made such a huge, life threatening mistake, congress would have jumped on them. it has nothing to do with japanese or american. even so who cares? japan didnt let their country buy american cars with their cash for clunkers program until we said hey wait, 60% of the vehicles purchases in our program were foreign, and probably a total of 45% going to japan. i dont really care if our country has finally grown the balls to stand behind the american companies. its how it should be. if they want to sell a car half a would away, we have every right to hold as many congressional hearings as we want. after all toyotas product has killed 34 people.

and by the way, since this is pickuptrucks.com, id like to say my 2006 F150 will out haul, out run, and out last ANY toyota. you can defend the japanese all you want, but in the end look whos on top right now. big blue oval.

Amen, James.

@James - I'm puzzled by your post? Quote "if ford had made such a huge, life threatening mistake, congress would have jumped on them."
That is the most clueless comment I've read in a long time.
I am not defending Toyota. They need to be held accountable, but the whole congessional hearing process is a farce. Toyota sales are down 9% in the USA but are up in most parts of the world. Some experts say it's because people in other countries see it as heavy handed governtment meddling. In Canada Toyota sales are up 25%.

Too many people bitch about Toyota and ignore all injuries and deaths the "domestics" have caused.

You say government would be all over Ford if they made such a huge mistake - how about government letting Ford get away with murder on a massive scale:

Where did you get 34 deaths from? Last few sources I read talked about 19.
Here is another link that puts all this crap into perspective:

The only point I agree with you on is that Ford is the best auto company in North America right now. They are fiscally responsible, all of their products are showing improved quality and reliability, and they are outselling GMC. Ford is on it's way to topping GM and Toyota.

lou
i just wanted to correct you on the number of deaths that the Toyota unintended acceleration problem has caused since 2000. 52 fatalities and 38 injuries so far have been discovered.

Ford..... at least they circled the problem......

Is the Suzuki Equator included?

@truckman
"Ford..... at least they circled the problem......"

Your name should be cliche'man. I sure hope the so called problems with Ford continue cause it got them to be the number 1 auto manufacturer in the US. jeez ignorant people crack me up.

I would still rather drag my nissan than drive a ford. My nissans have ran many more miles without problem than i was ever able to drive with the domestics. I'm sure others have stories to counter but I spend my money with companys that take care of me. Ford and chevy definately did not in the 90's. I have no desire to try that again.

@Daniel - thanks for the update. Some are saying the accident numbers are low because of under reporting and in other cases some say the numbers are artificially high due to the vultures (lawyers and crackpots) circling for cash. Time will tell.

@Lou

I would not even bother with these domestic sheep lovers!

http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/feb2010/bw20100225_403524.htm

Interesting read into how shameful GM is with their WITCH HUNT! This whole charade would not even qualify for a REAL court proceeding. It was designed, fixed and sold to favor GM and the domestic lovers fell for it...

DRIVER ERROR, now repeat that folks! That is the root cause, DRIVER ERROR!

@James

"i dont really care if our country has finally grown the balls to stand behind the american companies. its how it should be. if they want to sell a car half a would away, we have every right to hold as many congressional hearings as we want."

So you believe in socialism/communism?

You want big government to protect GM because GM cannot compete on their own, they need welfare checks to stay afloat...

Well for your information, in the business world that is illegal and poses unfair advantage as well as a conflict of interest unless you seek a communist form of business model which you fully support by your comments?

It's not my fault GM is a POS junk corporation, why should I have to pay for their failures and lack of being competitive in the marketplace?

By the way Japan is our biggest sponsor, that is they hold the most of our debt and if we piss them off, they may not buy anymore of our T-bills and then the U.S. would go into default and the federal government would collapse...

I bet you did not know that, then again you do not understand what DRIVER ERROR is either! You just keep on reading what the media and government tells you all the time...

http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/feb2010/bw20100225_403524.htm

Ohh my God!!! this is going to be a biggest issue in car industries. Now Nissan Titan and Frontier are in the race of recalling. I just can't believe this.!!!!!

Oxi,
If it is driver error, then why is it that only Toyota drivers seem to have this error many more times then a GM, Ford, or Honda driver?

Oh, and if Japan (and China) stopped buying US debt, yes, we would be in a world of hurt, but guess what, so would they. Without the US buying power, manufacturers in China and Japan would collapse. We need them, but they also need us, so they aren't going to stop buying our debt anytime soon.

And speaking of big government help companies, what do you think Japan does with their automarket? Why is import cars (US, European, and Korean) are only a small sliver of the JDM market? Because the Japanese gov't protects the Japanese manufacturers. Sorry that's not what you want to hear.

people crack me up, mike especially, the TOP TEN recalls OF ALL TIME.....well ford has 5 of the BIGGEST!!!!! but FORDS THE BEST HAHAHAAH
