6.2-liter V-8 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Now on Sale
For those anxious to get their hands on the 6.2-liter V-8 version of the F-150 SVT Raptor, the wait is over. It's now available for sale at dealerships across the country. Of the more than 7,000 orders for Raptors placed so far, nearly 3,000 are for the 6.2-liter version.
If you're wondering who will be the first customer to take possession of a 6.2-liter Raptor, it's NASCAR and Ford Raptor R driver Greg Biffle.
The 6.2-liter V-8 is rated at 411 horsepower and 434 pounds-feet of torque, making it the most powerful engine available for a half-ton pickup. It features two spark plugs per cylinder, a cast-iron engine block and aluminum cylinder heads. It also features a cast-iron crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods and cast-aluminum pistons.
The starting MSRP for the 6.2-liter V-8 Raptor is $41,995.
We also expect to see the 6.2-liter V-8 available for other Ford F-150 models in the not-too-distant future.

When do we get your review of the 6.2????
Mike,
Has Ford let you play in one of these yet in the stock production trim? If so, when do we get to read your review of this beast?
Thanks,
Brian
I live in the South Houston area and out of about 5 Ford dealerships in my area, 2 have a 6.2L Raptor on their lot. You can also build your own on the fordvehicles.com website. I'll take a White one with the 6.2!!
Damn! That's 16 spark plugs that are gonna shoot out of the hood! This truck is for guys who need to compensate for something.....
I've begged and pleaded to get into one of these trucks and so far no luck. I do know that a car magazine has been in one. Makes sense, right? Stay tuned. I hope to have more details on a review in the near future.
Got a Raptor 6.2-L already? We'll pay you to let us drive it for a few hours. Preferably, in the U.S. Southwest.
@ Quagmire I think you need to compensate for being an angry little prick of a man by saying crap like that!
"Damn! That's 16 spark plugs that are gonna shoot out of the hood! This truck is for guys who need to compensate for something....."
Not that I like spark plugs either, real trucks dont have spark plugs. Only oversided ATV's do, haha. JUST kidding...kinda :)
9 years from development to production!!! Ford is on top of there game :(
Bout time ford makes there trucks relevant again in the Half ton HP department.
BTW it still has less HP and Tq when compared to the HEMI, inch for inch.
Booo Hooo. You Chev guys are ruining this post with your anti-Ford rhetoric.
Naaa. Just kidding.
I wanted to see how it felt like to be Bob or Bobby1971.
I can't do it. It's impossible for me to force my IQ to go that low. A few gallons of cheap whiskey might do it.
@ Mike- "We also expect to see the 6.2-liter V-8 available for other Ford F-150 models in the not-too-distant future."
Stop teasing us................
That is good news for the Ford faithful.
Let the 1/2 ton horsepower wars begin...
So far, the guys that have 'em say they're "neck snappers" and very impressive. Unfortunately, the preliminary report is that they're getting 7-8mpg in the city. They're either drag racin' 'em, or the 6.2 isn't living up to the "Same mileage as the 5.4" hype. We'll wait and see.
I'd love to have one, but not that badly.
@Garrett
Why are you being so defensive? I wasn't talking to you. Unless you have one and you're compensating... Ford guys get furious when you say ANYTHING about Furd.
Mike, heard you guys were interested in driving a 6.2 Raptor, I take delivery of mine on Wed. the 14th and would be glad to offer it up to you guys. Any way I can get in touch with you?
@guest: You can reach me at this e-mail address: mlevine_at_pickuptrucks_dot_com. Thanks!
$42k for an off road truck that no one will ever take off a highway...
I've driven it.
I think folks will be largely disappointed by the incremental jump in power. It's just too heavy to make that much difference. Put twenty people in either a 6.2 or a 5.4, don't tell them which is which, and half of them will not be able to tell which one they're in. And at least with the prototypes, there is no external distinction at all.
Oh no, Aluminum heads on a cast iron block!!! I see trouble already!!!
Is there any reason to believe that the 6.2 will have the same plug problems as the 5.4? This is a special purpose truck. The difference between a 31Xhp and 41Xhp motor won't be obvious in a truck until you're pulling something heavy up a hill, or (as this truck should be) pushing the limit of what the truck can do. Most people couldn't tell in the passenger seat of a Z06 Vette or a standard Vette which engine was which, but race them next to each other and you'll see some results.
"Oh no, Aluminum heads on a cast iron block!!! I see trouble already!!!" - uncle jesse
You must be living in an alternate reality.
Any news on when this engine will find its way into the Lincoln Navigator? The 5.4L is ok, but it could really use the 6.2L to be competitive.
Funny, love readin this... Aluminum Heads on cast iron block.. I have a 1999 Silverado with the 5.3 that way and have not had any problems.. Also the Hemi 5.7 has 2 plugs per cyclinder too. Boy, is there ever alot of Trash talkin.. I see you are patient Mike..hahaha
I sat in two different Raptors today. They look amazing. The pictures do the Raptor no justice. Ford not only has the best trucks, they have the best looking trucks.
@RLM: It's not easy. ;-)
I' m not trash talkin' . Aluminum ans iron expand at different rate. Slightlynover heat this and you have trouble
Let me clarify my concerns. This truck is idolized as a Baja Competitor. Hard running and high temp Now if this engine ran Baja I stand corrected, if not do not take it off-road and run it hot,. Frank , I to had a "98 Sierra 5.3 but I never ran it hot and also no trouble.
@ Dave
HAHAHAA.
Ford toward the bottom of the list for styling. Last gen 150 was okay, but this thing is U G L Y.
I can't believe some of the stuff people post on sites like this. Aluminum heads on an iron block is nothing new, it's been going on for a long time with a high success rate.
That said, I'm anxious to get behind the wheel of an F150 with the 6.2L under the hood. From what I gather from an insider friend at Ford, it is hugely powerful. The 5.4L is a rock solid engine, but it just doesn't compete well with the bigger engines offered by the competition.
Books,
If you really think that Ford is at the bottom, you are nuts or just a Ford hater. Everyone loved the Raptor and F-150 styling at the NY auto show. The Raptor and Platinum F-150 were the most popular with the crowds and had everyone drooling over their looks. Ford has really hit a homerun with the F-150 Raptor.
Uncle Jesse, Yes the Raptor ran Baja and damn near won it's class when they were doing a pre production durability test. IIRC that version of the 6.2L put out around 500hp.
To those mentioning spitting plugs, you realize that has not been an issue since pre 2004 right? That got eliminated when the 3 valve heads came out. The 6.2L is not related to the 5.4L at all anyways. Neither is the new 5.0L. New engines.
What kind of MPG's are folks getting with the 6.2???
y'all wack dont get it, fords the best thing to man. spark plugs blowing out, hahah goofs, if you knew anything about fords, youd know there the best truck motor engine techonolgy, ford just are better. this motor will be beast!!! bet thay last forever!!! like all fords, when you drive um dirty, and change the oils like a man.
@ Enjelus
So you are telling me that you didn't notice the 100hp increase? I'm calling BS. 30hp has a seat of the pants difference, 100hp would be a SIGNIFICANT difference (both the 5.4 and 6.2 have the same gearing and weigh the same) - if you didn't notice it, that's a problem with your ass to head connection.
Add Direct Injection, TI-VCT, Twin Turbo, cylinder deactivation, DOHC and start/stop technologies, This should add significant horsepower, Torque and MPG. Make a Crewcab and I'd consider buying it
"The 5.4L is a rock solid engine, but it just doesn't compete well with the bigger engines offered by the competition."
Hell, the 5.4 doesn't compete with similar sized engines. GM's 5.3 has smilar power numbers and MUCH better MPGs. Dodge's 4.7 has similar power numbers and similar MPGs, not to mention over a half liter smaller.
@Rage
You seem to be confused. I said nothing about the engine, I stated the obvious. Only posers really buy trucks like this, who's gonna pay 42k for a truck just to tear it up? And if you do any serious off roading you will tear it up, its only a matter of time.
lol
@ Enjelus - quote "Some people have more money than brains, wish I was one of them."
Sound familiar? (no offence meant!)
I wish I fell into that category as well.....
I'd rather see this thing trashed offroad than splashed through a puddle and parked at the local Rotten Ronnie's.
I know many guys who buy 80,000 Heavy duty diesels and destroy them on the job in 3 - 4 years. Such is life.

Spoken like someone who hasn't driven one. Ever heard of "torque?" Probably not if you're mentioning 5.3 and 4.7 engines. Those engines just don't twist the rear axle quite like the Ford 5.4.

It is called real world experience. I have it. The 5.4 competes directly with the 5.3 and the 4.7. The 5.4, just barely, out tows the 2 but, gets much worse FE then the 5.3 while doing so. The 5.4 does even better vs. the 4.7 but it is also .7 of a liter bigger.
Facts are facts. The 5.4 doesn't come close to competing in the class that Ford says it does, and the only people who think it isn't a dog, are the Ford faithful.
The 6.2 finally brings Ford back into the fight in the V8 game.
I went from the 5.3 to the 5.4, and there really is no comparison. If you are redlining your truck, you will be disappointed with the 5.4, but if you use it for low rpm launches and towing. There is no contest, and yes the 5.4 is a gas guzzler, I admit that. But performance wise, I have no issue with it. I think the new 6.2 will have the upper revving power advantage over the 5.4, but down low, I bet it won't feel much different.
"Facts are facts. The 5.4 doesn't come close to competing in the class that Ford says it does, and the only people who think it isn't a dog, are the Ford faithful."
Then why did GM come out with the 6.0L V8 in the Vortec Maxx package and the 6.2L for 1/2 ton use if the 5.3L was adequate to beat out the Ford 5.4L?
Thinking you did not drive similiarly equipped trucks. FWIW the mileage is very close if you equip both with similiar rear end ratios. The one GM is touting as a mileage leader is the 5.3L paired with a 3.08 rearend. Go try and haul or tow anything other than a 10ft utility trailer with that ratio. They made a 5.3L fullsized Colorado to claim best in class mpg.
Speaks even more volumes about Ford if they can continue leading truck sales with the lowest HP V8 in both the 1/2 ton and HD classes.

To compete with the HEMI.

No it doesn't. It isn't even close. Ford's 4.6 (which is even a bigger dog) is the only motor they have that can compete with GM's 5.3.

ok guys, if you are worried about mpg, get a prius and stop complaining about the low mileage on a raptor. this truck is built to be an offroad monster, if you dont take it off the road then that is a waste of your money and therefore your problem. so what if it doesn't get 15-20 mpg, i would like to see any stock ram or silverado tackle what this truck can, its not only the engine that makes up this truck remember that, this is the toughest truck on the road. i think you guys just wish you had a triple bypass suspension that came stock on your dinky little 4x4's ;)
@Enjelus
my apologies, I directed my comment to the wrong person.
Pwr made the comment.
I bought the Raptor 6.2, does that make me a poser? I thought it looked cooler than other crap that is for sale right now and I needed a truck. I sold my 80k range rover for a 44k truck, I thought that was a sound financial decision.
the raptor is not very good but it's better thanUGLY
I'm interested to buy a Ford Raptor V8. Could you sent to me a coutation with destination to Angola-Luanda city please?
