NHTSA Investigates Ford F-150 Over Fuel Tank Straps

2001fordf-1502
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary investigation into whether the straps connecting fuel tanks to the 1997-2001 Ford F-150 pickup can corrode and fall off.

In 28 of the 32 complaints NHTSA has received about this issue, the straps broke, and the fuel tank either was dragged on the road or fell off completely. The potential dangers, especially regarding a fire hazard, are obvious.

There have been no injuries or fires related to the complaints it has received on the F-150, the government says.

@chevboy - strange that you mention small brains - if you took the brains out of your head and shoved them up a flea's ass, they'd roll around like 2 Bee Bee's in a box car.

Why don't you list the points that make a Chev better than a Ford 1/2 ton?

Personal insults is all you can come up with.

That means there are no areas GM is superior to Ford.

Love you grammar - get your pederast friend to write your posts for you. He's doing a wonderful job with the translations.

I also agree with it.

I have a '94 and an'01 Ford trucks. I love Fords. My '01 the straps...both...broke last week... Good thing I was driving down the road. I had just filled the gas tank the day before. Didn't spill a drop which was a good thing!!!! I was pulling trees with it, guess I should have used the '94...

wasN't driving down the road...oops

Hey, My 2000 F150 Fuel tank straps just failed. no, i'm not kidding. Who do I tell about this to try to get this recall happening?

Please everyone whose tank has fallen off, please call nhtsa and file a formal complaint, that is how the recall will happen. Those who already suffered this problem should be reimbursed, but even if they don't get their money back, should be glad to know they won't die in a wreck caused by 1.4 million trucks that could easily explode right in front of you. As for feeling sorry for ford, a 1999 truck isn't that old, they know people drive those trucks till they fall apart, 20 years is common for a truck, the tank straps should have been planned to last at least that long. Besides, replacing the straps is much cheaper than paying for deaths, or as in our case, a new tank and new gas lines too. Ford should just get moving before it blows up in their faces.

i just looked out in the driveway at my 1998 ford f150 and my gas tank is on the ground. It has a full tank of gas, if I was driving it while this happened I could have died I'm sure. FORD and the NHTSA has to wait till a few people is KILLED before they do a recall.

Relative to Ford's 2008 F150, 6 cylinder, 2 wheel drive, ...
one doesn't have to worry about the gas tank strap eroding,
because the truck is undrivable in the snow. It has poorly
rated Hankook tires, when it comes to Winter driving(according
to Consumers Reports. When it snows, stay home and wait
for the snow to melt and thus the salt to vanish before taking
the truck out. Problem solved.
