Recall Alert: 2011 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon
By Colin Bird
General Motors is recalling 6,768 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickup trucks from the 2011 model year over issues involving the automatic transmission on select trims, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Certain models equipped with either a 2.9-liter four-cylinder or 3.7-liter five-cylinder engine and a four-speed auto gearbox may have problems with the transmission selector. The PRNDL shift lever icons might not accurately reflect the true gear. Depending on the situation, drivers won’t be able to restart their vehicles or the vehicle could roll away when parked.
GM dealers will install a new automatic transmission adjustment clip free of charge. The recall will begin on July 19. Owners can call Chevrolet at 800-630-2438, GMC at 866-996-9463 or NHTSA’s hotline at 888-327-4236 for more info.

It could be worse. You could be driving a Tacoma...now that would be a real safety issue.
dont tell me chevys goin to turn into ford and have a recall just about every 2 mounths
No surprise there... it's a GM and they are always struggling.
Always been a marginal product...
One more reason to drive a stick shift.
Eh... Mine's doing just fine, but we'll see if they send me a notice.
From Jack:
"it's a GM and they are always struggling.
Always been a marginal product..."
Any chance you wanna substantiate those remarks, or was it just a childish statement?
So far only 3 of 6 comments have anything to say other than complete trolling and only 1 is from an actual owner saying his vehicle is not experiencing problems.
Why do most of the commenters on here feel like they need to act like 6 year old children?!
At least it sounds like a minor inconvenience in that the position indicator is just shifted up or down a hair and not indicative of a more substantial problem.
DFP says it is 9,215 model year 2011 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles
And there also is another recall for the Chevy Silverado.

New vehicles have gotten so complex that it is amazing that they run as well as they do. I wonder what was different on the 2011's? There hasn't been any real changes in design on these trucks for years.
Thanks mike ill post this up on the 355 nation
I'm with Jordan L.. another problem only an automatic would have
My brothers Ford has an issue like this, its a 2002 king ranch f150 in which the column does not line up correctly. No issues starting or anything like that though.
@Buy American or say Bye to America!
Your credibility just keeps dropping!
How old are you?
From now on, I will view your comments as nothing but hate, fabricated BS and JUNK status!
My old Dodge doesn't line up correctly either. Can't you just feel out the gears? All the way up = park. One click down = reverse. One more = neutral, etc. That's what I do with mine.
Total poop on my 2011 Chevy Colorado crew cab LT2 (Z71 2wd 5cyl).
I freaking love it!
21 mpg avg with a 50/50 split city/hwy. If I could learn to keep my foot out of it, I could easily get 23mpg average.
Plenty of power, good looks and I kinda seriously dig the built in Bluetooth. Comfortable, good seating, and not so much crap built into the dash that I don't know what's going on.
Ride is smooth as silk and very quiet.
Powertrain is very refined and comfortable pulling any load I feel like pulling.
Fit and finish on the truck excellent. The tailgate shuts like a car door.
One minor gripe: I wish they would've gone with an electric fan as opposed to a fan clutch.
Overall, one of the better trucks I've owned, and my last thirteen new ones were Chevy's as well. I like the size of this truck much better than the ridiculously sized half tons out now.
The folks in Shreveport have done a fine job.
It could be worse. You could be driving a Tacoma...now that would be a real safety issue.

What's the Tacoma's safety issue?
@ oxi - can we all use your quote when ever you make a post?
"From now on, I will view your comments as nothing but hate, fabricated BS and JUNK status!"
@ lou - The silverado was not recalled. This is for the Colorado. Get your facts straight, ford boy!!!!
@chevy guy where did he even bring up the silverado? or anyone for that matter
Detroit Free Press: "In a separate recall involving GM, the company is recalling 891 model year 2011 trucks and SUVs, including 739 in the U.S., over loose steering bolts that could result in the joints separating, causing a complete loss of steering.
The vehicles involved include the model year 2011 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV 1500; the Chevy Silverado, Suburban 1500 and Tahoe; and the GMC Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL 1500."
oxi-
Just as I do your gibberish, anytime you jump in on a; Power Wagon, Ram Runner, Raptor (full-size)... story.
@chevy girl
I never mentioned the Silverado.
This is exactly what I said:

@Buy American or say Bye to America!
Sorry man or woman but I point out obvious things I have seen and done in my 20 years of off-roading, you just spew hate on that response above slining mud for no good reason but to distratct from the Colorado problems!
Yeah I would like to see Tacoma safety issues when they are the safest in class overall!
Better crash ratings overall and better design...
Lou,
If you want to side with him, go ahead...
I post with facts and personal experiances the last 20 years off-roading, things I learned and saw...
I have driven nothing but pickups the last 20 years, raced down in Baja with on and even ran high-speed on road courses with another with local wheeling in between...
What say you...
