Goodbye PUTC. It's Time to Take a New Road

Goodbye PUTC. It's Time to Take a New Road

More than 16 years after I started PickupTrucks.com in 1995, today is my last day. I'm departing to take a new role as Communications Manager for Ford Trucks for North America.

This is a huge change for me and my family. However, I hope it won't be a change for you - especially those that have been loyal to the site for years, some for more than a decade.

When I joined the Cars.com family in 2008, I knew it was the right path to grow PUTC, but even I was caught by surprise at how perfect a match it has turned out to be. The management and Editorial teams at Cars.com have consistently stood behind and supported continued growth of the site. PUTC's comparisons and reviews are what I believe to be the benchmarks in the industry for pickup truck tests. I'm very thankful to have had the privilege to work with the team at Cars.com.

Today is also a day for me to reflect about the great country we live in. I didn’t know a soul in the auto industry when PUTC went live in 1995. Hard work, persistence and merit led to this moment. Along the way, I made lifelong friends and met amazing people I wouldn't have otherwise. I think that’s a terrific message to share with others, especially in today’s tough economy.

I also want you to know that Cars.com is actively interviewing candidates to replace me. I fully expect the site to be bigger and better next year than it is today.

In any case, I'll still be around, if not actively then always in spirit. And I'm sure I'll run into you guys again sooner or later.

Thanks for all of your support and participation on PUTC. It's the best I could ever have hoped for and it makes me really happy.

Mike,

I has been a pleasure to read your articles and honest reviews, as a ford owner....I expect to see you again!

Good to hear you are joining a great American Company! You are officially a blue oval boy!

Thanks for the years of great articles and research Mike. I hope you negotiated a Raptor into your new deal!

Mike, I’m sad to see you go, I’ve enjoyed your articles for several years now. I hope the site remains enjoyable, I know it won’t be the same without you. Good luck and Congratulations on the new job!

Mike, I wish you all the best. I've been reading PUTC the last year avidly and reviews helped lead me to the purchase of a 2011 F-150 Lariat crew cab with an Ecoboost--which I'm really enjoying now! All the best in your new adventures!

Forest

Mike,

Thank you for all the articles...hope to see you at N.A.I.A.S. in January!

Mike,

In a world where every trade press hack calls him or herself a "journalist" -- you have always been the bright shining beacon of true journalistic integrity, ability, and class in the automotive world.

You've got a great mind for a story, and Ford's lucky to have it.

And even though we know we'll still be working with you in your new role, you'll truly be missed on this side of the fence. Have fun on the dark side of the Force.

Best of luck.

MIKE Thanks for a great site and the wealth of information you have brought to the readers here on PUTC. I/we wish you well in your endeavors and hope to hear from you again soon. You will be missed greatly tho for PUTC sake I hope not. LOL Take care wish you well and most of all good luck! :)

wish you the best of luck thru your next journey and working with Ford

Mike it been a pleasure for the last 4 years or so since i found PUTC reading your unbias reports and listening to some guys make excusses for why ford whips them in sales every year. So long your gonna make ford and all of us blue oval nuts proud

That explains all of the pro-Ford postings on this site...

Thanks Mike, please come back often!

Mike, thank you for all the great articles, I can never get enough of reading this website. The best of luck to you at your new job! Hope we'll somehow hear how things are going for you.

Ray, couldn't have said it better.

Thanks for all the great articles, breaking news pieces, and including me in your 1-ton shootouts. Looking forward to working with you at FoMoCo

Congratulations! All the best of luck to you, sounds like a great job. You have built an awesome site, with a treasure trove of information for the pickup truck owners of world, like myself. Congratulations, again!

Andy

Mike, it's been a complete pleasure.
Thanks so much and enjoy the new gig.

Mike,

Congratulations on your new venture...with the Greatest Automobile company in the world! I am jealous. Take me with you, please.

You are one heck of a man and journalist! I always enjoyed reading your professional reports. You have left some very, very, big shoes to fill. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Good luck to you, sir! You will be greatly missed.

Thanks again,

Buy A Ford And Help America!

P.S.- Rock On, Ford!!!

Mike,

my PUT knowledge has grown immensely since visiting the site, and it has also encouraged me to do as much research as I can on my own, not only for trucks I own but for trucks that maybe one day i'll own (awhatup diesel!). Thank you for your work here at PUTC, they have made a difference to a lot of people.

Congrats Mike you have earned it. I am proud to be one of those 10 year followers and I wish you the best with Ford.

Ray said it best; enjoy working for the Dark Side! ;)

Matt

Congrats! Mike, at least now it's official. I've long suspected you've been working for Ford for a few years already albeit subliminally.

How do I get an interview for your replacement? :)

Seriously, Congrats Mike! I think Ford saw that under all that "unbiased" reporting, there was always a glimmer of "pro-Ford" talk going on. ;) They hired away a good one! No one here can blame you for going, you have to do what's best for you and your family. Your communication, both written and verbal are some of the best I've seen/heard, and Ford knew they couldn't pass you up. Good luck with everything.....now how do I get an interview to replace you? LOL!

Mike,

Congratulations and Good Luck! Going to miss your articles on here. You did a great job with this site and I am sure Ford is gaining a great asset to their team.

Take care!

Mike,

It's been a pleasure following the progress of PUTC over the years and you leave giant footprints behind. No doubt your legacy will continue to be felt by all truck owners and enthusiasts for years to come, and it's good to know you'll be keeping the Ford guys honest. Your work ethic on the media side has always been an inspiration to watch with the quality and honesty of your work equally impressive. You will be hugely missed.

Mike,
I'm thrilled for you man. I, as a 5 year long reader, want to thank you for your commitment to producing quality reviews and entertaining reads over the last half-decade. I hope you find access to all of the breathing room you need, at Ford, to continue doing your "thang" that you do so well, while growing and stretching to meet to needs of your new role.
It'd be great to read future articles about the current state of the automotive/truck industry (etc.) written from the lofty perspective of one of Ford's new big-wigs ;)
All the best!
David

Is this new gig going to be a stepping stone to the 2012 Presidential Election?

Mike Levine for President!!!

Congrats Mike. I hope the transition goes smoothly for you and your family. I'm sure I'll see you around the car show circuit in the future. Take car.

At least your Ford Biased Reporting got you something in the long run. Of course I'm sure you'll still be using this website to "communicate" the Virtues of Ford's Overpriced, Overhyped offerings. Good Luck!

Best Wishes Mike. Thanks for your great articles and thoughtful insight over the last few years.

Sad to see you go, but also welcome to the family! ;P

CDSID, please?

He wasn't pro Ford guys lol. He drives a Toyota pickup so if anything he was leaning towards Toyota.

Mike - congrats on the new position! Your site truly has produced the most comprehensive tests I think I've ever seen, online or offline. I am not sure what in the world mike11silverado is saying, since the most recent test I remember seeing was of the HD trucks and GMC was chosen as the best (http://special-reports.pickuptrucks.com/2011/08/2011-heavy-duty-hurt-locker-best-overall-heavy-duty-pickup-truck.html) but I think Ford has offered you this position because you're NOT a fanboy. I'm sure you will have an incredible experience working with Jim Farley, Scott Monty, Craig Daitch and the rest of that team. All the best!

If you are a young person, or if you know a young person, I hope you will appreciate this story. There are many, many ways to pursue your dreams and make a difference in the world, as Mike Levine's life shows...

You're a good, honest guy Mike... and as a Ford fan, I'm very happy to see you land within their ranks.

~ Ken

Congrats Mike! You are the best, I hope the replacement is up to par.

It will not be the same without you Brah!

Thanks again for everything you did!

Good luck Mike. Its been a pleasure to have had you on this site and you will be missed. Good luck with your new job. Its a great company and you will be an asset to them, just as you have been to this site. Thanks.

Mike,

Thanks for your site and for always putting the information that we want at our finger tips. I wish you the best of luck to you and your family on your next endevor. Thanks again!!

Mike,

I have been a regular reader and follower of the site for many, many years. It has proven to be a fantastic site with an abundance of information for everyone. You will be greatly missed here. Here's wishing you all the best in your new position with FOMOCO. Hope to see you around here and at FTE!

@Mike Levine - sorry to see you go. I've enjoyed your stories for years. You've left your DNA all over this site. Must of been a tough decision. Congratualtions and best of luck.
Ford will greatly benefit from having you as part of their team.

Ignore the assholes. I've never seen any reason to question your integrity.

@Chris: Here's the link to apply for the position - http://bit.ly/rk6blD

@Ray Wert, David Kennedy, Mark Williams: I count each of you as good friends and colleagues in this industry. And I know I learned more from each of you than I could ever hope to teach. Thanks, guys.

Mike,

You have done an awesome job of running PUTC. I have checked it almost every day since I discovered the site. Glad to see you got a great job with Ford. By the way, you did negotiate a Raptor as your signing bonus, right? They can't have their Communications Manager driving anything else!

Welcome to Ford! If you ever make it to the Sharonville transmision plant in Cincinnati, stop and say hi.

Thank you for making such a great site and source for all things pickup.

My best wishes to you and your family for health, wealth and happiness...

Cheers!

Huh.......now the bias makes sense.

I feel sorry for the guy. He now is a sheep for a terrible company with a terrible CEO. Good luck....you'll certainly need it.

Thank you, Fight On, and God blessed, Mike.

good bye mike thanks and good luck with the new job

@"P" - the only bleeting, fleeced sheep I see, wear bowties.

Going to miss your honest and unbiased approach to every article, test and shootout you've tackled. Best of luck in your future endeavors Mike!

Mike,

Thanks for all your hard work in making this site the first stop for truck news. You will be missed. Do your best to get that kickass ecoboost engine in a reg cab/6ft bed F150!!!

Sorry to hear your leaving Mike Levine as I think you did a heck of a job for pickuptrucks.com I wish you the best of luck in your job with ford even if it is the darkside. I whole heartedly agree that we live in the greatest country in the world and that we have the freedom to work, live and worship where ever we choose.

May God bless you and your family Mike Levine from a die hard GM fan.

It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Mike Levine

How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh
Outweigh the bad.

I thought Mike would be at pickuptrucks.com forever
But forever's gone away
It's so hard to say goodbye to Mike Levine.

I don't know where this road
Is going to lead
All I know is where we've been
And what we've been through.

If we get to see the 2014 F-150 and new Ranger
I hope it's worth all the wait
It's so hard to say goodbye to Mike Levine

And I'll take with me the memories of the 08 half ton shootout
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to Mike Levine.

And I'll take with me the memories of the report on the next gen F-150
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to Mike Levine at pickuptrucks.com

Ford is the best for 34 straight years because they hire the best. This site will never be the same again. But Ford will keep getting better and better than ever. Goodbye, Mike.
