2011 Los Angeles Auto Show
Posted by Mark Williams | November 17, 2011
The beginning of the Auto Show Season has officially begun. We'll be at the Los Angeles Convention Center for a few days scraping up any and all truck info we can find. As is traditionally the case, the LA Show is typically more about being green and politically correct than showing off big pickup trucks, but we should be able to get a sense of the various manufacturer's thought processes by what they're putting on display. Additionally, we'll be able to ask a few questions to some of the executives on hand. More to come.

keep up the good work and send all the info pictures you can, Thanks Mark Williams
For the Seattle show just 2 weeks ago, Ford had 2 trucks, Chevy had 3, GMC had 2 or 3 and Dodge had 3. All were high priced, highly optioned models.
My wife looked at the list price ($64K) for the Ford F-250, King Ranch, diesel crew cab and said no new truck for you.
The color on that F150 looks like dust on that picture. Not very flattering for that FX2.
Somebody must have left it outside last night
@ MMP & smtrthnu -- The truth is the truck was spotless and even had its own detailer on site to dust off any wayward debris throughout the day. The "dust" you're seeing in the photo is a combination of horrible interior lighting and flakes that are inside the finish.
That is one purdy Ford F-150 FX2.
Last year, or maybe it was the year before, Ford had a killer F-150 S.V.T. Raptor display at the Los Angeles Auto show. They even brought out a Baja race simulator. I wanted to give it a whirl but the lines were just tooo long.
I think we all made some excellent "anti-trolling" progress yesterday. I'll keep the ball rolling today by including a list of no-so-old products that I like from some of my non-preferred brands.
GM:
current Malibu (not next gen)
sky / Solstice
4-door Colorado Z71 (or Z something) short bed
Traverse (don't ask why)
Dodge/chrysler/ram
All ram's from 94-01 and '10+
1st gen Durango
Challenger!
Nitro would look sweet if you tubbed the rear and stuffed 33" drag slicks in them. It would still be a worthless fwd but it would look mean
Toyota
sorry... I really tried
That is a perdy FX2, I think I want a black one with ecoboost, and I prefer without the appearance package.
Look forward to the various reviews and intel from the shows.
Speaking of the LA auto show.. That Shelby GT500 is RIDICULOUS! How deflating it must be for GM to come out with the ZL1, and get trashed before you can even buy one! GO FORD!
What a great time to be a Ford guy! I would like a Platinum F150, GT500 and of course a new Explorer for the Wife. Keep it up Ford!
The black Ford in the picture is a metallic flake paint job similiar to the metallic flake paint jobs from the 70s except those paints were usually bright colors such as pink or lime green. It will be interesting to see if any manufacturer offers metallic flake paint as an option. Maybe they painted this Ford this way to test the publics reaction to it. If the feedback is favorable then this might be an option.
Jeff.. If you look at the current tuxedo black, it has that "metal flake" look.. I believe that is actually the same paint on this truck.
Oops. I meant metallic flake purple not pink. The Plymouth Road Runners from the late 60s and early 70s offered metallic flakes in some of their paint jobs.
Please ask Toyota when we will see the next generation Tacoma and Tundra.
Also when will Toyota finally upgrade to direct injection engines? They have had direct injection in Lexus vehicles for some time now.
Thanks
JBURG You are right. I guess I never thought about that. Black is no longer just black as white is no longer white. White can be Pearl White. Black can be Onyx Black or Tuxedo Black or any other variation. It will be interesting to see if other manufactures use a variation of this black.
How about a 650HP SC Harley Davidson? It's already AWD so it should be able to put the power down. Although a 4 wheel burnout would look pretty cool :-D
@Mark Williams, you could ask about the "800lb Gorilla" in the room diesels for 1/2 tons and midsize pickups.
@Don.E That would be an extreme bargain price for a new F250 in Australia.
"...Nitro would look sweet if you tubbed the rear and stuffed 33" drag slicks in them. It would still be a worthless fwd but it would look mean...." -toycrusher84
I believe that you are referring to the Caliber. The Nitro is a R.W.D./A.W.D. S.U.V. based off of the Jeep Liberty.
A bit off-topic but this has been the most mature, civil, and just plain enjoyable comments section I have read on here in a LONG time.
Love the articles on PUTC, however reading the comments section usually makes me embarrassed that I'm a truck owner.
@buy american - I stand corrected. The Nitro is in fact rwd. That certainly makes it even more palatable. The Nitro is just begging for a hot rod (ish) nose-down rake with skinnies up front and some meat out back. And vette-like exhaust pipes running just beneath the rocker panels with side-dumps before the tires would complete the look.

Now this is a comment most should agree with, I do for sure.
I think someone has cleaned things up a bit somehow?
Let's all give each other a cyber-group hug!!!
I take back part of my above post, things are sure not cleaned up on the Raptor post.
Same dummies, same s#!t.
Also noted at the Seattle show; GM had the same floor space as in previous years but without Saturn, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Hummer. The chevies were spaced W-I-D-E apart.
Group hug in the shower?... Anyone?
That FX2 is why I'm not a fan of black er tuxedo black.
What ever happened to whote, black, blue, yellow, green, orange, red, silver and grey????
My truck, as far as I'm concerned is two tone grey, but... nooo.... it is Ingot Silver, and Sterling Silver.
Makes me feel like I need a stylist, a personal trainer, and some sort of entourage.
oops, typo - I meant white ;)
Of course, for the left coast show, be green and politically correct...... Seriously, do real car people go to these shows looking for green and politically correct vehicles?
Car Guys go to look at everything, but primarily, we want to be "wowed" and could care less about ecoboxes.....
If they do this back here in the East this winter I'm going to ask for a refund!
good work on trucks i might get one from you
