October 2011 Top 10 Pickup Truck Sales

July 2011 Top 10 Year-to-Date Pickup Truck Sales

Top 10 Pickup Truck Sales in October 2011

Not much change from last month but everyone is, relatively speaking, still doing well. Those who are losing ground in this month's sales race are losing by less than they were last month. And those that were doing strong last month, are still doing well, if not jus a tick better this month. Look for things to begin to slow down during the heavier winter months, but it is encouraging that the last few months have been some of the best we've seen in a few years.

oh yeah go USA!!!

Ouch, looks like the F-series outsold the Silverado, Sierra, and Colorado put together last month.

GM really needs to get their new stuff out or they're going to start drifting behind.

wind'em and turn'em loose, let the bashing begin

truck sales still going up, home sales...eh, not as much. just goes to show, if i had to, i would live in my truck.

Don't get too loud...Michigan blob is still asleep in the back seat of his Impala!!
It's nice to see the BIG 3 well ahead of Toyota

My father-in-law just bought a Titan and he loves it. But he is also a 72 year old man, apparently he liked it better than the Silverado that I own because him and my mother-in-law thought the Silverado's were cheaply made compared to a truck that has never changed since 2004. But whatever they are just in-laws.

Actually, Paul, Silverado and Sierra put together is outselling F-series this month. This has been going for about 3 months now.

Ford is stll oustelling each GM brand individually and combined year-to-date so that is all that matters. But Ford better keep an eye on this.

@Dave Ford = 52,511, GM = 36,656 + 13,362 = 50,018.

Dave, add the two up, the total GM sales per this article (36656 + 13362) adds to 50018 trucks sold. According to the article, Ford sold more than 52000.

I wonder how much rebates are driving sales right now.

Whoops. You are right.

From another article....'Detroit automakers barely increased their incentive spending in October, but they did shift their marketing to trucks, a typical move during football season.'

I just saw a claim by Ford that they are the #1 selling brand (not company) in America. Anyone know if this is verified?

Also, I have heard claims here that "brand X" sells more 1/2 tons or "Brand Y" sells more heavy duty's. Where does that breakdown come from? I haven't been able to find it.

toycrusher84
at the end of the year this site does half ton vs hd sales last year was more chevy half tons then f150s and more ford super dutys then dodge and gm if you look back in news you can find it

Incentives on F-series are lower than ever and interest rates are higher. If I was to buy an outgoing 2011 F-150 right now there will only be $2k in cash incentives. In the past that would have been around $4000.

So Ford outsold GM by 2,493 trucks in October. I would say that's not bad considering that we have heard over and over how many turcks GM had on their lots and that they weren't selling. add to the fact that ford has all new engines for their trucks and the Eco-boost is outselling their V-8 engines.

I guess the thing that suprises me is that the GMC Sierra doesn't sell more trucks. I mean they were up 16.9% over last October but it is suprising that the GMC doesn't have a larger market share. Dodge Ram has really made large increase in their market share.

So for all the GM bashers out there saying GM's trucks are this and that, I would say that GM is doing quite well selling their old trucks and almost as much as ford is selling. The margin between the two companies is very close.

So for all the Ford bashers out there saying Ford's trucks are girly and this and that, I would say that Ford is doing quite well selling their innovative new trucks and still more than GM's two brands are selling. The margin between the two companies is still very close.

@Michigan bob i couldn't help it, you're the only one bringing up GM bashers, and when you look at the feed here, there aren't any.

It would be very interesting to see how much profit per unit each manufacturer is making. Multiply the profit per unit by number of units sold and I think you would truly see how each brand is doing. I have a pretty good idea of what that chart would look like.

@Zach, put the crack pipe down son and slap yourself silly! There is GM bashing everyday on this site and you included.

You have to have your head up your butt if you say there is no GM bashing on this site. How many times have you heard about bankruptcy and bailout talk about GM??? How many times have you read the 5.3 is crap, the sheet metal is to thin, the interiors are crappy yada yada yada, I could go on and on on how much GM bashing there is on this site so don't give me any of your b.s. about nobody is bashing GM.

GM was constantly bashed for the bailout and bankruptcy posts constantly and saying they would never buy a gm vehicle again. I would like to have a dollar for every complaint about GM'S HD'S independent front suspension. No, this site is full of anti GM bashers and I've only touched on a few topics. So despite all the anti GM bashing and saying how bad GM'S trucks are, they are selling quite well and obviously the public doesn't all agree with many of the complaints on this board. Are we clear? NO! are we clear?? Capiche.

Thanks Chevy guy.

And for everyone else, I did the math and ford has about a 3% lead over GM twins YTD. That's not much if you ask me.

@ Bitchagain Blob when you get of that pot smoking haze you are in you will realize the truth, all that you have stated above is the truth about GM, the bashers are only speaking the truth

@toycrusher84,

"I just saw a claim by Ford that they are the #1 selling brand (not company) in America. Anyone know if this is verified?"

Actually Toyota is the best selling brand in the U.S. last year!

"I would say that GM is doing quite well selling their old trucks" - Bob

Whenever GM guys discuss trucks in other articles they love to claim how old everyone else's trucks are. But when the sales articles come up, GM guys do a 180 and claim GM trucks are the old ones. It's funny how that works.

Despite tough year, Toyota finishes 2010 with best-selling car, brand and luxury marque titles!

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/01/05/despite-tough-year-toyota-finishes-2010-with-best-selling-car/

Turda sales are headed in the right direction.

oxi,

It's not 2010 anymore.

GM piles on incentives to avoid buying back dealer's overstocked inventory with cash they've already spent. You see it's the lesser of two evils and the consequence of being 'sales driven' instead of profit driven.

Not including fleet sales oxi. Include them and Toyota was not #1 in 2010. This year they are definitely not #1 and their #1 in the world ranking is going away as well.

"Year-to-date, Ford is the best-selling brand of vehicles in America with sales totaling 1,700,618, up 17 percent. With this performance, the Ford brand is now on track to increase its market share this year by about 1 percentage point – which would mark market share gains for three consecutive years."

http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=35516

Also, oxi, note in the press release from Toyota they qualify 2010 best selling brand as "retail" brand only. They don't include vehicles sold to businesses and governments. Toyota is like 3rd best selling brand in America if you include all vehicles sold, not just retail jobbers.

@Dave, Where Dave??? Show me one post where GM guys are claiming other brands are old trucks? Just one post???? I bet you can't show it or prove it. It is widely known that GM has the oldest platform other than Nissan's titan and there not even a player in the market.

The fact of the matter is despite Ford having the Newest half ton's sold today, GM is neck and neck with ford. Infact, I would say that the only reason ford is ahead of GM is because they sell more heavy duty trucks than GM does.

It has been reported that ford owns about a 50% share in heavy duty trucks sold. So the reason ford is leading is because of the heavy duty sales not the half tons. GM is slowly chipping away and is doing quite well with their Heavy Duty trucks. So my point that GM guys are not saying other trucks are old and you made that up and are a liar Dave. I dare you to show me and prove your statement.

@Dan the woman, you wouldn't know the truth if it slapped you silly. Your one of the guilty GM bashers on this site and it is sickening. Don't like GM fine, than buy something else. We don't need to hear your anti GM b.s.

Do u guys buy a brand of vehicle for sales number or did u buy it bcuz it fits ur needs/lifestyle? bcuz it sure sounds like it with all these kids comments...

Jeez Bob,
why do you bend over so much for chevy? i understand your loyalty and i amire the z71 package. I like how chevy trucks have smoother rides, and the duramax diesel is a proven winner. However the interior is lagging and the 5.3 has been neglected for a while. the class excluse ifs and airbag like suspension will only win over so many customers. Ford and Dodge are reinovating and establishing the bar for pickups .Chevy needs to command some more attention. Dont get me wrong, even though i drive a 2001 f150, i will happily buy a new silverado/sierra, f150, or ram equally. The hurt locker test revealed the dimishing leads that chevy may have in performance..... Its time to realize that chevy doesnt make "like-a-rock" commercials anymore!

Fact: Ford is the sales leader.

Fact: Michigan Bob ruins a good thread with his typical GM this and that, everyone is a GM hater blah blah blah posts.

Fact: Ford guys only Bash GM because they are copying GM guys bashing everything. Remember Michigan Bob says ford copies everything GM does.

LOL...these comments just are too funny.

I come on this site just to watch you guys argue! Haha, Michigain Bob, you are legendary!

HA ha ha u people crack me up idc how many each sells as long as they make a quality vehical i just like my ford the best u people need to take a deep breath and chill

1. Ford inventory is still a mess. Some dealers have EcoBoost, some have very little. EcoBoost availablility is still limiting sales. The extra incentive on 5.0L hasn't really helped. 5.0 sales (retail) aren't doing much better than GM, but EB is killing it.

2. GMC numbers are up, but I can say around here in 2010 hardly any GMC's were sold becaus they closed most of the dealers. In early 2010 they reinstated some, but it took quite a while for them to get inventories back. I suspect this is a big part of why GMC numbers are up more than Chevy. 4th quarter will be a better comparison.

3. Dodge is the real anomoly to me, the truck hasn't really changed, no one that wouldn't own a Dodge cares that they're now Ram's, and pricing doesn't seem to be cheaper than the compeition, so I can't figure out how they're getting the sales gains, but hats off to them for it.

@Allistar

Chevy stopped using that slogan after that whole 'piston slap' fiasco... "Like a Knock!"

@Dan the woman, you wouldn't know the truth if it slapped you silly. Your one of the guilty GM bashers on this site and it is sickening. Don't like GM fine, than buy something else. We don't need to hear your anti GM b.s.

i already did buy something else, who's we you got a mouse in your pocket, don't like my Gm Bashing fine stop your trolling and i will stop my GM bashing

Hilarious!

Ram gets its sales because they are making up for underperforming in previous years.

When Ford was up 27% at the end of 2010, Ram was only up 12%.

In 2009 when Ford was down 19%, Ram was down 28%.

And so on and so on.

The better question would be why did Ram underperform in 2009 and 2010? What they are doing now is what they should been doing then.

@Michigan Bob you should read more. I said the feed HERE. HERE. HERE BEING THIS FEED. you are dumb.

@ everyone lets get this guy off this website he is ruining it for all of us, i am tired of reading his posts i would like to come on here to learn about people's experiences and not see Bob tear them apart with asinine posts lets vote and see if Mark Williams will help all in favor say I

@Dan the Man,

If we ignore it, it will go away.

@Michigan Bob, GM makes them the cheapest, main reason they are moving them.

Way to go Tacoma and Tundra!
Great American built trucks built by Americans who love Their jobs!
U rah rah! U rah rah!

I couldn't help but notice Michigan Bob's first post was thought out, intelligable, and although anti-GM bashing, it wasn't an insane rant about slamming every other brand....it was actually very reasonable, and yet he got pounced on.....maybe some other people on this forum have some issues of their own....

Now that the last Ford Ranger is coming off the line we will be able to see if Ford's gamble that former Ranger buyers will simply move up the F150 will pay off. I'm betting that many, or most, of them will simply move over to the Frontier ,Tacoma or Colorado when it becomes available . Time will tell.

I had read that Ford was making 30 million a month off of their V6 truck sales. One can argue that Ford has a 3% sales lead, but what about profits and financial strenght?
I am amazed that Silverado/Sierra is still that close to Ford. What about incentives, rebates. finance rates etc.? or loyalty? I am seeing way more GM fleets trucks out there. Does that affect these numbers?
These statistics do not tell what is really going on in the truck world.
Ram is the one that completely amazes me. Where are they getting their market share from?
Are they taking an equal share from GMC and Ford? Tundra and Titan are down but those sales numbers are so low that they would not account for Ram's growth.
Are large SUV buyers switching over to Ram trucks?
In Canada the rankings are different than the USA. I suspect that unless GMC hits a homerun with their next generation trucks, Ram will take the number 2 spot.
Currently in Canada:
#1. Ford F series
#2. Dodge Ram
#3. Sierra
#4. Silverado
I find it very interesting that Canadians prefer the Sierra over the Silverado. I like the Sierra's looks. Give it a better interior, a man step, a 6.5 box, a roomier crewcab, a higher front bumper and it would be perfect ;)
