Spied! 2014 Silverado/Sierra Winter Testing

Glenn Paulina just sent us these photos that give us a good idea what a camoed extended cab looks like. He also writes this:

We've accumulated our best selection of spy shots of the 2014 Chevy Silverado, now catching GM's next full-size pickup in two cab styles, from multiple angles.

While last week's exclusive scoop of some C7 Corvette prototypes understandably generated headlines due to its sex appeal, it's the performance of the next Silverado that has real ramifications toward GM's bottom line.  The volumes and profit margins at stake in the hugely competitive truck market go well beyond the gains of a "halo" vehicle in the low-volume sports car market.

Our latest pix of the Silverado, undergoing winter-tests deep in the Northern Territories, reveal the truck in what appears to be its Extended Cab form, while earlier photos caught the Crew Cab version.  Both variants show larger greenhouses than their respective outgoing models, with new interplay between the door cut-lines and the B- and C-pillars.

We continue to hear of efforts to greatly reduce weight in the next-gen Silverado, with weight-loss numbers of 500 pounds being bandied about.  We are now hearing of similar plans on the 2014 F-150, with rumors reporting that Ford will switch to aluminum body panels instead of traditional stamped steel.  Once again, weight reduction goals of 500- to 700-pounds are being reported.  While our spy photos always highlight the shape, size, and styling of a given model, the anatomical makeup of the materials that make up those shapes may be as large a part of the story, especially on large gas hogs like the American full-size pickup.

@Greg J - I have no interest in a King Ranch or Platinum or Harley interior in a Silverado. That junk is just waste of a whole lot of money. It is like whiping your rear with dollar bills.

As long as the new Silverado is good looking and comfortable that is all that matters.

There will be a GM Sierra Denlai for those who want the girly man treatement. The reason why you can't get that in a Silverado is because they want the Silverado and Sierra to be different! Everyone wanted the two to be different. Now GM is delivering on that and everyone wants the Silverado to be just like the Sierra. Make up your minds people!

@Greg J - I personally don't want a Lariat, King Ranch or Platinum interior in a Silverado! The Silverado is a Silverado. Lariat interiors are just like blowing your nose with a dollar bill. Huge waste.

Besides the King Ranch is too cowboyish and the platinum is too fancy.

As long as the Silverado is good lookin and comfortable that is all that matters. The GMC Sierra Denlai will be available for those who want the girly man treatment. The Silverado will be going back to its roots as a work truck like it should. Leave the lariats and platinums for the girly for men. That move will allow Chevy to move right by ford. Ford is an old dog.

Looks pretty good. I am anxious for that camo to come off so we can all get a good look at it. It looks like the back doors may indeed open forward. Having the extra b-pillar will be good for structural integrity, but I think it will inhibit rear seat access a bit with the pillar. I have had some experience with '06 Dodges with this set up, and it made access tougher as opposed to current GM and Ford trucks with rearward opening doors.

Well said Bob J. I've heard multiple people cry all through the 80's to present about GMC and Chevy being too similar. When they try to differentiate the two even more, they come up with another excuse to make negative comments against GM.

@Chris- Chevy isn't getting the better looking truck? Screw them. I want my truck to have that "wow" factor but I sure as hell am not buying a GMC. I hate that brand and everything it stands for. Who wants a vanilla truck? If the next Silverado isn't mind blowing lookswise and in a good way, I'm buying a Ford or a Ram. I'm tired of GM screwing up Chevy trucks like this. The last two have looked horrible. And we won't get the All Terrain?? The new Chevrolet Silverado will NOT be on the level of the new Fords???? Are you kidding me? I'm absolutely outraged by this. Ford stomps Chevy trucks into the ground yet again by GM's Own doing. GM can go to hell if this is true. I'll never support Chevrolet or Cadillac again.

@Bob- Well, I'm not buying a new Silverado if it's not equal to or better than Ford's F-Series. That's all there is to it. If Chevy is the supposed 'work truck' then why don't we get the all-terrain package? Chevy competes against Ford is all areas but with their trucks and it's sickening.

The bottom line for me is this. If Chevrolet isn't offering King Ranch and Platinum interior options they can keep their truck. I agree, let the Sierra have that Denali ghetto girly bling. It's a powder puff truck anyway. Fine by me.. The King Ranch is Not a bling interior though. It's a True working mans, working mans leather truck interior of the highest quality and design. The Denali is plasti-chrome. I want a King Ranch in my Silverado and if Chevy won't offer me that I'm taking my business to Ford period. I too have had it up to here with GM now. I'm thinking it's about time to sell my shares because I don't believe in them anymore if this stuff is true.

@Chris, Whoa!!. I just read what you posted. Earlier in this thread (last night) I was excited as could be. Not so much anymore. Either that post was a bad joke or I'll have to retract my "Chevy, I'm coming home" statement. I will not be coming back to Chevy trucks if that stuff is true. I too want the good looking truck, a King Ranch equivalent interior and any real trucking man wants an all terrain package.

I'm baffeled by GM's decision to do this not only to their loyal Chevy truck customer base but to their Chevrolet dealer network. They're screwed since they have to compete with the Ford dealer across the street. They can't sell the Chevy trucks they have now because everyone is buying Ford's instead and GM flat out says this next one won't compete with Ford either? Ah, sorry guys. I take what I said back. I have Zero interest in a new Chevy Silverado now after reading that. No thanks. I'm absolutely not buying a Sierra so good luck with that. And screw you GM for ruining my lunch hour.

Sorry for the double post Mark. The first one didn't take. Then they both popped up. Go ahead and delete one. I hope there's some good Ford news coming on PUTC now.

I believe that Toyota has hired Japanese scientists to design awesome trucks, these scientists were trained and also have vast knowledge of how to make speed and power a dynamic force that's all behind the i-force design, meaning intelligent force, all thanks to the Japanese scientists

@Bob, you just don't get it do you. It's almost like you work at Ren Cen or you're Mark Reuss in disguise because you're clueless. Nobody, absolutely nobody could destroy the Chevrolet customer base like GM has done and continues to do. GM has flat out ruined Chevrolet trucks now with this news. I see yet another mass exodus from Chevy over to Ford coming over this debacle. I'm glad I left years ago. Nothing but Ford trucks and Ford cars in my driveway these days. The local Ford dealer I now consider a good friend. For several years and 2 brand new models I bought Chevy trucks and as such I also bought Chevy cars. Their quality and sophistication went into the toilet though. Ford trucks and Ford cars are of so much higher quality and higher class. GM has set the stage with these words for an all out war between Chevrolet trucks/cars against that horribly redundant GMC brand. If I were a Chevy dealer I'd be pissed.

As they say Bob, Real trucks don't have twins... Sorry Chevy guys. I feel for ya. Come over to Ford and you'll never have to worry about that crap again.

The windshield has more rake to it than a sports car.

The cab looks "squatty" and the roofline is low.

This is no doubt a measure to improve MPGs.

The wheels look like a carbon copy of the Second Gen Dodge Dakota/Durango wheels.

If they shed 500 lbs.. the truck is either going to ride like a tobacco wagon...or it's going to lose payload/towing ability. One of the two.

@ FordTrucks1 Real trucks don't have twins. Thats why their makeing gmc and chevy different duh ford people are so clueless

Good point johnny doe. Just another clueless Ford fanboi.

@Chris - Thank you for that bit of information. I have 2007 classic Silverado and my wife has a 2008 Malibu LTZ. I didn't like this last Silverado so I didn't buy one. I've been really tempted to buy a new F-150 though with the Platinum. What a beautiful truck! We were also going to trade our 08 Malibu up to the brand new one. In fact my Chevrolet dealer called me two days ago to tell me they were on the way to the lots. Both the wife and I saw pictures of the new Fusion coming though and boy is that car stunning. So good in fact my wife tried to get me to just go ahead with the F-150 purchase and she could get the new Fusion instead of the Malibu. I've bought only Chevrolet's my whole life though as did my father.

Until now that is. That piece of information was all I needed to say goodbye and feel good about it. Chevrolet left me before I had to leave them. They just don't compete with Ford anymore and it's been bugging me for quite some time. I will have a new Platinum F-150 EcoBoost sitting in my garage by tonights end. We will be ordering our new Fusion when we're at the dealer this evening. GM has really ruined Chevrolet cars and trucks I feel. I have no interest in GMC either and also view it as a poor use of taxpayer money typical of this administration as so many others here have mentioned. Oh well. Thanks to Chevrolet for the memories of old. Thanks to Ford for the stunning vehicles of the future!

I like how rational everyone is over pure speculation. Very smart.

Well I know for a fact that Ford are not top in quality, I have many truck mags with proof, as well as Toyota information that I have found over the years. Toyota has actual scientists designing their trucks, not only for power and speed, but for all around looks, they are above the rim in style and aerodynamics, the scientists use wind tunnels and compare all of the trucks and seen that the air flow around the Tundras show purity in form, the Fords however were as if they had parachutes. The scientists know a lot more then some mechanics at Ford

These comments are hilarious.

These comments are hilarious.

The same can be said for your comments.

The rear axle on this truck does not look like a corporate 10 bolt used on 1500's for the last 20 some odd years. I wonder if they have decided to upgrade this part?

Not really interested in the exterior of the next GM trucks...they never really looked nice. But...I am more interested in the interior...and bringing it into the 21st century.

Interior...is more important for GM with this next truck series...IMHO.

i can now say i agree with frank for once

Speaking of axles i was doing some reading about the Toyota's superior axle design all done by the Japanese scientists at Toyota. has anyone seen Top Gear on the BBC and how strong that small Tacoma was, once again thanks to Japans finest science. Think now how old was that truck and now add in the factor of new science added to the Tacomas and Tundras to date. Once again a win for Toyota

Hard to tell what the final shape of the truck will be. The snout looks interesting. The lights look good. I wonder what kind of front bumper they will have. I hope they ditch the ugly 3 piece bumper. The new emission standards mean it will probably be lower than the last gen. The box looks taller, but that could be the padding.
Looking at these pics is like going out on a first date. You wonder, "Is it going to be something fun, special and long term hiding under the bra and clothing? or just end up with a cold handshake or dry peck on the cheek".

Another fact to take in about Japanese Toyota Trucks is they are on the Metric system and that is what science is based on, and American trucks like Ford is based on the SAE system which is what OX carts are based on

@ Mark Williams

Are there any other photos from KGP or Brend Priddy that we haven't seen yet? Might as well add some more speculation to the mix.

There was also talk of GM considering on bringing back the Scottsdale name for an Upper Level Trim Silverado that would supposedly be one level higher than the LTZ model, possibly a year or 2 after the trucks initial introduction into the public, has anyone heard an update on that?

The headlights look similar to the retired Trailblazer. Probably left over parts...

@ All of you guys speculating on those comments from GMI let me tell you this. I've lurked there for a few years. Most if not all of those guys left posting (and those that moderate the board) are a bunch of GMC nutswingers. I think they're mostly kids who don't even drive trucks nor understand them. You see them get all giddy over anything GMC or Buick does. There's one screwball there that thinks the world actually Needs GMC. It's hillarious.. The real truck guys have left that site. I used to read posts from guys like DirtyLarry,Nailhead,SDRacing,FanofDurant and others who were the real deal. Real truck guys who knew their stuff and Chevrolet men to boot. So take those comments with a grain of salt and consider the source.

Those things said, if that initial post of the thread was indeed true, I really have no interest in Chevrolet any longer myself. And since that's the only GM brand I really care about (although I like Cadillac), I'll most likely end up in a new Ford as well. I guess we'll see.

@ FordTrucks1 Real trucks don't have twins. Thats why their makeing gmc and chevy different duh ford people are so clueless

Ha ha... JohhnyDoe. The only one clueless here is you, bob and GM. People in the past didn't like that they LOOKED dead identical. That absolutely Does Not mean that Chevrolet Trucks should be 'Less Than' anything GMC has. What GM is doing here is Demoting Chevrolet trucks and by default the entire Chevrolet brand in favor of GMC and even Buick. When Chevy truck guys get upset over someone on a GM website posting inside information Stating that GM is making Chevrolet the second best truck (Vanilla, Not competing with Ford, No high end interiors, no All Terrain, Wont' be the good looking truck etc..), these guys have Every Right to hate GM for it. I would too!! I can't imagine Ford doing that to me. All I can say is Ford better be ready to build trucks on a scale never imagined before. GM making Chevrolet trucks 'Second Best' will be the nail in their rotting coffin.

@FordTrucks1. Very sad and very true. Whether what was posted on that GM website is true or not is yet to be seen. I have to say though, it sounds legitimate. If so, John Deere country will remain Ford Country. All of these employees aren't going to switch back to Chevrolet trucks if what was posted is indeed true. There's really no reason to and I don't blame them. I've wanted so bad for Chevrolet to turn this around and make it the way it used to be but it just may not be in the cards. I know I don't have any interest whatsoever in anything GMC so I guess I'll find a new home for my truck and car needs. Reading through that stuff on GM's website about makes me want to trade in my Chevy truck tonight and just be done with the brand.

The GM fans believe in freedom of speech, just as long as you agree with them, and say nice things about Chevys.

I hope that the next gen Chev/GM trucks are great. I'd rather have 6 truck brands to chose from than just 3 or 4.

FordTrucks1 The only one clueless here is you. It's not 2013 or 2014. You and the stupid people yack so much with nothing or anything for sure to back it, you just like to hear you're self bitch like a woman which is to my guess why you moved to the truck company (furd) that offers a woman step

Well I like the wheels, hopfully the new trucks come with machined aluminum wheels instead of the tacky fake chrome plastic wheels.

@JD, What does "it's not 2013 or 2014" even mean? Call names like a little child all you want. These are real dollars and real sales Chevrolet is losing to real lifelong customers. Yet your problem is with me or 'furd' as you call it? Take your issues up with GM. You both need psychiatric help.

@Alex, it's more like as long as you say nice things about GMC then the GM guys will like you. Go back in PUTC news history and read the article posted on Jan 14th about the new Silverado/Sierra trucks. It doesn't look to me like Chevrolet fans are fond of GM one single bit. After reading all of this crap about the new trucks, I can't say I blame them.

Ha ha... JohhnyDoe. The only one clueless here is you, bob and GM. People in the past didn't like that they LOOKED dead identical. That absolutely Does Not mean that Chevrolet Trucks should be 'Less Than' anything GMC has. GM making Chevrolet trucks 'Second Best' will be the nail in their rotting coffin.

@FordTrucks1, I agree with this.
@Tim, I read through that stuff and have felt the same way for several years now. I'm glad I found this place because I'm obviously not alone. I too am a Chevy truck guy and have bought dozens of Chevrolet trucks, cars and a handfull of Cadillac's over my lifetime. These people at GM are severely mistaken if they think I'd ever buy a GMC. I would have never stooped that low before and cannot even believe they are now trying to make the Sierra the top truck over the Chevrolet. Absolutely unreal. I'll drive a Ford or Dodge long before I'll ever drive something that said GMC on it. If GM doesn't want my truck purchases with Chevrolet I'll take my truck business elsewhere. No way however am I buying a second rate truck.

A good first look at the best built trucks!

FurdTruds1 psychiatric help? yeah you need it you got you're skirt on backwards lmao hows tha woman step working?

Looks like a return to proper form for the Silverado. This last one was a dismal effort at best. The upcoming Silverado would have been my first new one. I bought the 97 I drive now a few years back when I graduated college. Mint condition with only 20k on it. I've always loved old Chevy trucks since I was a kid and planned on keeping my 97 to pass on to my kids when they get older. Dad had Chevy trucks growing up and my grandpa did as well. Heck, both grandpa's had Chevy's. I'm disheartened to read this news though. I read through the Jan 14th posts here and agree with the Chevy truck guys. I also read through that post on GM's website and read what Mark Reuss said.

I'll be honest, as much as I was looking forward to this new Silverado, I'm really not sure I even want one now. Not if they're going to be a second best truck. The GMC brand does nothing for me at all. Nor do I want a Chevrolet that's not as good or better than a Ford though. I just couldn't make payments on a Chevrolet knowing that the Ford is nicer. That's practically the exact reason Dad bought a Ford 5 years ago after a lifetime of Chevy's. This really is a letdown for me. It was going to be my very first new Chevy Truck... Dad has a new F-150 now but I really didn't want to go that way. It isn't even right seeing him drive one.. :(

Bummer... they copied the ram doors... ew

Under wraps at least – it looks like it has less phony build up and bulk. And that’s a very good thing. I think pickups have gone way too far away from their original purpose – a work tool. Maybe this will be the start of a trend toward making trucks, trucks again. That would be very good indeed.

@JD. No step on my SD... Poke fun though. I believe that's what Howie used to do in Chevy commercials with things such as heated steering wheels. Yet another thing Ford offered, Chevy did not. Funny watching GM put heated steering wheels into their trucks a couple years later. You just keep up your childish insults though and we'll continue to keep up the sales. Oh ya, Sales... GM with it's 4 brands can Barely outsell the 1 brand of Ford. I'm telling you right now it didn't have to be this way. GMC should have been closed. Buick should have been a brand left in tact for the Chinese market only. Chevrolet trucks and cars should have become what Ford trucks and cars are. A focused, premium main brand. Cadillac would stand as the top car brand as is. It's rather obvious more people are following my train of thought than yours. I've yet to meet anyone who drives Chevrolet trucks or cars that is happy about this. Chevrolet gets downgraded all the while Ford's and brands such as Hyundai are getting nicer. I promise you that Ford plans on taking those disenfranchised Chevrolet Truck customers shortly. GM fired the first shot at their own loyal Chevy Truck customers here by making Chevrolet a second best truck now. Nobody wants that. And these Chevrolet customers are hurt and they're angry. Be mad at GM for doing this not me.

You can add me to the list of folks let down by this news. I too was looking forward to Chevrolet Finally kicking Ford's butt back to second place where they belong. GMC? Blah... Thanks for nothing GM.

C'mon GM! What is wrong with you people?? I supported you through the bailout and all of the crap that's happened over the years. As a die hard Chevrolet truck man though I've about had it. I too wanted a King Ranch type interior in my new Silverado. I too am flat out sick of GMC getting the good looking sheetmetal designs and interiors as of late. I heard the same as RaymondJ from my Chevy dealer about a Scottsdale trim that was going to just "Kill" the King Ranch as the salesman put it. Now I read this? It won't be as nice as damn Ford? That sissy Sierra truck is going to get the good looks? Good lord. I've bought 2 new Oldsmobiles, 1 new Cadillac Escalade, 8 new Chevrolet cars and 9 (5 new) Chevrolet trucks from you guys over the years. And this is what I get? I love GM but I can say Without hesitation I detest GMC. That brand should have been rolled into Chevy trucks in the 1950's. If that stuff on GMI comes true I'm afraid I'll have to leave Chevrolet for good. If they're not going to be better than Ford or Dodge I have no interest in supporting the brand any longer.

No way no how am I buying a GMC. I wanted a Chevrolet. A second rate Chevrolet however will not fly with me.

@FordTrucks1

Couldn't have said it better myself.

GM's stock will become more worthless than it is already if Chevrolet doesn't get the goods here. This is a very very poor business decision on their part to simply sell a fullsize on Buick lots. Chevrolet trucks have the most loyal following in the world next to Ford. Not competing with Ford has hurt Chevrolet truck sales badly and by default it hurts Chevrolet's car sales which in turn dimishes the value of GM shares.

Sure, some stayed or will stay loyal to 'GM' by purchasing GMC's instead but not the vast majority. Once a person chooses the Ford truck over the Chevrolet truck that person will generally stick within the Ford brand for other purchases. Given that the Chevrolet brand with their trucks brings in the big money, I'm very concerned with GM's long term viability here. Keeping GMC was a colossal mistake. Holding back Chevrolet trucks from competing toe to toe with Ford and Ram trucks makes that mistake monumental in my book. The 3 big symbols in America are the Ram head the Blue Oval and the Bowtie. A properly run organization would prioritize their biggest symbol. Particularly when the other 2 symbols are killing it. I'm very disheartened by this news.

@Everyone -

Just because Lou posted some rumors doesn't mean it is true.

No, Chevy doesn't wanna mess this thing up, But Chevy doesn't want to push the Silverado too far either.

This new Silverado just might be the one I've been waiting for my whole life. So Chevy, I'm alright, with just a workman Silverado.

GM fired the first shot at their own loyal Chevy Truck customers here by making Chevrolet a second best truck now. Nobody wants that. And these Chevrolet customers are hurt and they're angry.

@FordTrucks1, you are dead on. After what I've just read through I feel like GM just stabbed me in the back. Screw GMC. What a girls brand. If Chevy isn't going to give me what the Dodge or Ford will then I don't want a Chevy truck anymore period. And I sure as hell won't be giving GM my money for a GMc. This would have been my 3rd new Chevy truck. I wasn't happy with the 07 redesign but my 02 was getting up there in miles. I bought the uglier Chevy anyway with the LTZ leather even though it feels cheap. I didn't like that the Sierra looked better nor did I like that I couldn't get a good interior package like the King Ranch leather. Every payment I made on my 07 I resented GM in a small way. Especially when co-workers would pull up to sites in their new King Ranch and Platinum Ford's. I'm just not doing it again.. I could get a new Dodge Ram or Ford F-150/250 and have top tier trims and looks instead. So many guys have left Chevy for Ford and Dodge now in the construction industry it's not even funny. You can get cooled seats in the Ford's even. I tell you what, you take a break on a hot day and sit in a cooled seat it is SO nice! All last summer we took lunches in the Fords. My Silverado doesn't even Offer it!! These reasons are exactly why Chevrolet trucks are disappearing from work sites. It looks like I won't be buying a new one either.

@ Toyota truck drift masters
You need to drift to the article that has the tent on top the taco!! Stay out of these write ups about real trucks...there are important things being said here!!!!!
