Ram Truck and Country Music in 2012
Ram Truck just announced it will continue its connection with country music by creating a "Road to the Ram Jam" concert series that will allow fans to see their favorite country artists up close and register for a drawing to win gifts and prizes.
Five concerts are scheduled this year, plus a year-end invitation-only Ram Jam concert in December.
The first officially announced concert will be with "American Idol" alum Kellie Pickler, who will get the use of a fully loaded Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn for the year that will be auctioned off in 2013 with proceeds going to the USO, a nonprofit group dedicated to lifting the spirits of America's troops and their families. The remaining concerts will be announced throughout the year, with each performer given a new Ram truck for auctioning at the end of a 12-month run.
"The first thing I learned to drive was my grandpa's truck, so I'm definitely a truck girl," Pickler said. "I'm excited to be part of Ram Truck's Road to the Ram Jam. We're going to have a lot of fun on that 'Road' — me and my Laramie. I'm also excited that we will be auctioning off my Ram truck at the end of the year to benefit our veterans in need."
Fans can visit uso.org/warriorandfamilycare to see behind-the-scenes video footage of Pickler in her Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn as she discusses her love of trucks, her new album "100 Proof" and how she continues to show support for U.S. troops.
The Road to the Ram Jam sweepstakes runs through Sept. 30. Official rules and complete details are found at RamTrucks.com/RoadtoRamJam.
Comments
This reminds me of the truck spokesman thread. I didn't comment there but will here. Chevy needs George Strait back period. Chevy needs it's credibility restored and he's the only guy to do it. Howie needs to go. The king of country and the king of trucks need to be reunited once more. The Silverado needs a county western/outlaw cowboy premium interior like the King Ranch or Laramie Longhorn. The time has come for Chevrolet to compete with Ford/Toby Keith and Dodge with whoever they bring into the fold. I see Jason Aldean sporting a Dodge Ram in his Dirt Road video and apparently he's a Dodge guy too. This has gotten ridiculous for the last decade. Chevy needs to get back to being #1.
Get that beam axle back under the trucks for those off road country boys. Ford and Dodge are kicking our butt here. What happened to the Like A Rock days? What happened to "Pack it light, pack it heavy, take a truck, take a Chevy".? We used to Own this market. Ford was only a pretender to the throne. Now we've slipped so far that Dodge is coming in for the kill. This has to stop.
@Dennis, I couldn't have said it better man. I agree... GM seems like it's been run by a bunch of jocks and suits for a good 15-20 years who don't know a thing about real trucks or real trucking men marketing anymore. They don't seem to care about Chevy being the #1 top dog truck anymore either. Everything's about that Sierra Denali crap. I don't know what happened but it sure has been sad to watch...
Ford might have been a pretender to the throne 15 years ago but they Own the throne now. The mighty Super Duty kicked it off when you guys lost your SFA and the F-150 drove it home with the 04 redesign. Sorry Chevy guys but your day in the sun has long since passed. Running 2 trucks has diminished the Chevy brand value to that of about worthless in these parts. If you buy a Ford or a Ram you buy an Exclusive truck. Not so with Chevy. Especially now that they market and push the Sierra when they really didn't used to so Chevy got the glory so to speak. I too remember the days of old when Chevy was where it was at so don't get me wrong, Chevy used to kick serious ass. The goofs at Ren Cen have pretty much ruined Chevy trucks though for far too long now to recover. Those good ol days aren't coming back. I could be wrong but I really don't think I am.
The Silverado needs a county western/outlaw cowboy premium interior like the King Ranch or Laramie Longhorn
Amen! Now we're talking My kind of truck! Outlaw/Cowboy, I love it! Give me some of that Real Western Rawhide and I'd pay whatever Chevy wants for their Silverado. I watched that Jason Aldean video, man I forgot how tough those Rams look. It just looks bold and very off road capable. I too wish we could get an off road axle in our Chevy's like those Dodge's and Ford's have. What a machine.
@Dennis, bringing back George would be the best thing they could do. The trucks gotta be there to back it up though. That's the problem. Maybe it will be but after what Mark said I'm not even confident anymore. It really does seem like they're more of a Sierra denali company anymore and not really into Chevy like they were when George used to go all out for Chevrolet trucks. I don't think the king of country would want to be associated with a second best truck line. Unless GM reverses their decision here, I think the Chevy truck is dead in the water with the country music crowd. I agree though, George Strait would be like a needle shot full of adrenaline for Chevy trucks if GM made them the number one priority again.
george strait-GM Toby Keith-Ford Zac Brown-Dodge Brooks and Dunn (formerly I guess now?) Toyota Datsun should get Rascal Flatts lol
Dirt Road kicks ass.. Good call! I opened up the youtube video of it and read the comments as I listened. Wouldn't you know it, nearly 9 million hits and what's in it for comments? Ford trucks vs. Chevy trucks vs. Dodge trucks! It was like PUTC on youtube! This is the way it should be. I'll have to sign up and toss in a punch for Chevrolet.. :)

chevy the longest lasting hardest working trucks on and off the road!! my point is proven in them videos
Like I always say if only my Chevy had a SFA I could have jumped that curb and got a better parking spot at the mall. Like the guy in the Ford SD Darn!!!!!!!!!!
I saw Toby Keith awhile back. The entire stage was a shine to Ford trucks. Anytime he said Ford the crowd went Insane. There was a huge blue oval Ford logo on the stage and the drum riser was a Super Duty truck. Absolutely incredible. I can see Dodge getting back into the game now because it's big money. They have the tough look and the cowboy interior trim to pull it off now. They have a darn big off road country boy following so I can see them sneaking up on Ford in truck sales. I'm a Chevy guy (hate GMC) but even I feel it just may be over for us. We went downhill years ago... It effing sucks too. We have no presence in the real trucking world anymore. Our pickups are for soccer moms and pavement duty only. Chevy got neutered in the late 90's. You guys are right, a bunch of know nothing bean counter suits and jocks ruined Chevy. We need our balls back!
Alan Jackson is a Ford man too. I'm a big AJ fan BUT, in this video he did pay his respects to Old Chevy. And look at the comments! Just like that Jason Aldean video, 7 million hits and the comments are all about Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks.

This was back when Chevy had a real off road truck. Big Block Chevy's and SFA's! None of that low slung frame garbage. There's nothing better.

Yep. 1987 was the last year of Real Chevrolet trucks. 1998 was the last year of Chevy trucks period. The gmt-400's while they had IFS only were still sturdy as nails and and still looked like a real Chevy truck and one of the best looking ones too! So it gets my respect. GMT800/900's blow. One looked liked it was made in Japan and the other looked like a cartoon. Neither one were built worth a darn. The rest of you are right, GM is Braindead to not take Chevy and compete with Ford and Dodge for the country crowd. That's who buys most of the trucks! Cowboys, ranchers, farmers, off road country boys. I don't get GM at all. Nor do I get their obsession with that Sierra.

Old Chevy does rule. It's all about Ford's these days though! I guess Dodge's too.. Who knew they'd be the comeback kid?. I agree with Dennis though. Chevy needs to build the best truck they've ever built (and no, not the Sierra, I think they should have cancelled that... I'm talking Chevrolet Silverado) and then get George Strait back in the fold for a solid run. Even if they would just go balls to the wall for 1 solid truck they might get the Chevrolet brand status back up that they need to have going forward. Then they'd just have to keep building the best. It's good for us Ford guys too because it pushes Ford that much harder. Really, who wants to live in a world without Ford and Chevy both going at eachothers throats? Talk about boring.

Hi Bob, where have you been, you trolling other Ford Truck Sites again.
johnny doe
you said WE you got a mouse in your pocket
Cowboys, ranchers, farmers, off road country boys. I don't get GM at all. Nor do I get their obsession with that Sierra.
@Mark- I agree. Don't forget the construction crowd though! I tell ya what though, the guys I do construction with all listen to country for the most part, go off road and some live on family farms. I think it all goes hand in hand. Unfortunately, most of our trucks are Fords. I'm the only one with a Chevy but it's an old 96. I've only been at it a few years though on my own. I hope in the next year or two I'll be able to start writing off a truck for taxes like everyone else does. My old boss ran 31 Ford trucks combined and I think we had 4 Econoline vans as well. I'll be buying another Chevy though. And next time it will be new and loaded! Gotta keep up with the big boys and their King Ranches ya know! They look alot more professional bidding jobs than I do at the moment and it drives me nuts.
franks just mad cause there is 5 to 10 year old chevys working harder the most new fords
@JOHNNY TROLL,
My 13 year old F250 V10 does more work than you think!
Nice try!

I think you meant to say your mechanic does more work on it than he would a comperable Chevy model.
lol what work sitting in a drive way or a weekend trip with a atv in the bed?
Not to get off topic but my buddy was trying to tell me that china has some ownership in GM. Is there any truth to this?
Nice try TROLLS!!!!
@Johnny Troll,
What kind of truck do you drive?
2011 5.3L 6speed WT trim ext cab 4x4
@johnny,
With how many miles?
around 30,000 or 40,000 i think haven't looked at the odo in a while got it in novemeber i'll look if i remeber to next time i get in it
How many miles do you travel/work monthly?
some days 100 miles all the way up to 500 miles 7 days a week all depends on where i have to go
@Johnny TROLL,
You posted this on Dec 28, 2011
My 2011 5.3L 6 speed gets 23 mpg if im easy with 8,300 miles on the clock. Retards got know a motor aint gonna perform at its peak brand new. The motor needs time to break in. The piston rings and the cylinders need to wear in some, as the cylinder walls are hone, which makes a lot of friction. That means less fuel economy, till the rings and are wore in some. You have seals and other moveing parts to got long with this. Most trucks,cars are good after 10,000 miles, for the most part all the trucks that are tested on here are luck to have 2,000 to 10,000 miles on them. for all we know the chevy could of have less miles on it then the other trucks in the 30,000 shoot out test. Use you're brains , i know i don't use mine as much as i should but its only common sense folks

@Johnny TROLL,
You are not keeping your trollness intact. On 12/28/11 you had 8,300 miles. On 2/3/12 you have about 30,000-40,000.
Do you mean to tell me you traveled more than 20,000 miles in the last month of January.
YOUR ARE FULL OF $HIT!!!
WAY TO GO JOHNNY TROLL!!!!

@Benchimus,
It's kind of sad, really!
My bad I meant 18,300, got 22,458 miles on it right now just went and checked, my bad I thought I had more lol
Whats even more sad is you actually going back to other threads to look for johnny's comments.
Very, Very sad.....
@Fidel Rueda,
It's not hard to find comments by johnny doe. His comments are funny and I caught him in a lie.
It's not my fault I know how to use a computer.
You mad bro! Lol!
@Fidel Rueda he can look all he wants i don't care i made a typo at 5 am when i was half asleep big deal i thought i had more miles then i did no big deal i never said for sure i got this much miles. i made a mistake and im man enough to say i made a typo and mistake really i don't care lol
@Frank - maybe johnny's odometer cable broke as he drove it onto the job site. That low frame and all.....:) LOL
Back on topic - Texas is the biggest NA truck market. I know lots of guys who are country fans, but this whole country/western interior and name theme obsession that truck makers have is a bit much.
I say kudos to Ram for the Limited, Ford for the Platinum, and even GM for the Denali. I'm not a cowboy, I'm not a fan of C&W, and I don't really want a truck that looks like a wannabe city slicker urban cowboy.
no lou my mind broke down at 5 am when i was trying to wake up for a hard days work
@johnny doe - really. The only time my mind ever shut down at 5 AM was when I had been partying all night long.
I worked shift work for 26 of the last 29 years. Being up at 5 AM is no excuse.
@Lou, I think Chevrolet should have a Denali/Platinum interior as well as a Kingranch/Longhorn interior. I do think it's very important for the Silverado to market to the country crowd. I however much like yourself would prefer less 'cowboy' and more 'classy'. I do not however want a GMC to get it. I only drive Chevrolet's. My wife drives a Tahoe LTZ, I have a Corvette ZO6, we bought my daughter a new Cruze LTZ for her birthday and I have a 62 Corvette. We're a true blue Chevrolet family and I'll have it no other way. Although I do have a CTS for my realestate car. Cadillac is ok though. I don't want a GMC nor will I park one in my driveway so Chevrolet needs to have a Platinum and that's all there is to it. Ford markets to the country crowd and the country Club crowd just fine using their different interior packages. There's no reason in the world Chevrolet can't do the same. I've been wanting to get a truck for our realestate co. but the current looks and interiors of the Chevrolet's simply do not cut it for me. I won't buy a Ford but I'm not buying a Chevrolet either until they fix this.
well Lou dec 28 xmas new years party week off 5 am in need of coffee im sorry im not like you
@johnny doe -
Really ?
1st you said you were getting up at 5 AM to work and now it was Christmas week off partying?
So...... how many miles do you have on your imaginary truck?
Quit while you are ahead.
My dad used to say that to be a liar, you have to be really smart because you need to remember what you said, and to whom you said it.
Your words will be on this blog for years and years.
@Joel Neimeier - I think that there needs to be alternatives to the country western themes. Catering to that demographic does sell trucks.
I really liked the Ram Limited interior. Same goes for the Platinum trim.
It doesn't make sense to me that Chevy is going to be the lower grade brand. It makes sense in Canada where Sierra outsells Silverado, but not in the USA with Chevy outselling GM 3 to 1.

@Lou, I absolutely agree. I thought about adding GM stock to my portfolio again but they need to make Chevrolet the top trim in America for me to even trust their business sense. What they need to realize is Chevrolet trucks sell to both demographics and many more. As does Ford, Ram and even Toyota. You need that country-cowboy crowd. It's a perfect foundation for a tough truck image which all trucks need. You also need guys like myself who want things like that high quality interior but without the western flair. I need something a little sudbued but still very luxurious to take around clients. Of course you also need base trim models for the guy on a budget just going to Home Depot on weekends. If you think about it, the outside of the truck needs to look great no matter what trim is in there. That's what gets people interested in the truck in the first place. Then it's the different interior trim packages that will sell the truck to different demographics. This is they Key to Ford's success. And as I said, I'm just not a GMC guy. No offense to them. And I do think they should get some good trims as well like their Denali. I just prefer Chevrolet's and am pretty insistant Chevrolet should have those options as well if they want my business.
