Recall Alert: 2005-2009 Toyota Tacoma

2006_tacoma 2
Toyota is recalling all 2005-2009 Tacoma pickups which could effect as many as 495,000 vehicles. The recall will replace a faulty steering-wheel spiral assembly. Due to a possible design flaw, friction could develop between spiral cable and the retainer in the steering-wheel assembly. This could lead to a loss of connectivity with the driver’s airbag and cause the airbag not to deploy in a crash.

Toyota will begin notifying owners in early April. As with the first recall, dealers will also be able to replace the affected part for free in around 30 minutes.

Owners interested in receiving more information about both recalls can go to or call Toyota’s Customer Experience Center at 800-331-4331.

I took my Taco into the dealer, they had the parts and performed the spiral recall quickly.
Not an issue.
As far as longevity, when I sold my diesel Landcruiser, it had 440,000 kms on it and didn't burn or leak any oil, transmission and transfer case were still working perfectly. Body was rusty due to the vehicle being used almost exclusivly off pavement, here on Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada, where the environment is tough on vehicles. And my stock axleshafts could handle 35's with a Detroit locker in the rear.
Put a locker in a half ton GM/Ford/Dodge and you better have Currie Enterprises on speed dial....(or some other aftermarket axle shop)
You all keep buying that big 3 junk, you must just think bigger is better.
I'll pit my Tacoma's resale value and longevity against ANY big 3 product.

I had an 06 Tacoma and the "possible design flaw" ie the clockspring failed and caused the clip the holds the steering column together to fall out and my steering wheel came off the column at 70mph which caused me to cash and the airbags failed to deploy.
