2013 Ford F-150: More Style and Features

2013 F-150 XLT & Lariat

In celebration of it's 65-year relationship with the Future Farmers of America, which also happens to be the same number of years the F-Series name has been in existence (Download Ford F-150 FFA timeline), Ford introduced it's strongly freshened 2013 F-150 to the media in Bruceville, Texas.

“Farm families have always represented an important F-Series truck constituency,” said Doug Scott, Ford Truck group marketing manager and FFA sponsor board member. “For these multitasking customers, a Ford pickup means family transportation, economic livelihood, rugged capability and reliability. Like FFA, Ford pickups are an enduring agricultural tradition, and we are delighted to join forces with them to reveal the new F-150 models.”

Although there are no earth-shattering changes, there are quite a few significant improvements to the half-ton truck, some of which we've recently seen in the 2013 Super Duty lineup.

First, Ford will carryover new MyFord Touch infotainment system on higher trim packages (Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and the new Limited), while other models will get a new 4.2-inch LCD center-stack screen that will give more readable radio and HVAC display information. In addition, like the Super Duty, the F-150 will get a more driver-configurable LCD screen between the revised gauges. The higher MyFord Touch trim packages, when equipped, will get the larger 8-inch LCD screen for Navigation and SYNC built into the newly designed center stack.

Second, the most obvious visual news for the 2013 F-150 is that newly redesigned frontend, that incorporates a three-bar setup and HID headlights on Lariat and above trim levels, while the more work-oriented XLT models and below get a new two-bar "vice grip" grille, very similar to the Super Duty.

Tow ratings for the 2013 F-150s remain identical with 2012 models, with the exception of a few new 2013 models. The new Limited F-150 package will be offered with the 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost only. GCWR and maximum payload numbers are down considerably from the non-Limited versions due in large part to the fact the heavy-duty tow package will not be compatible with the Limited's unique suspension--GCWR numbers will not be higher than 13,400 pounds, with a maximum trailer capability not higher than 7,500 pounds. We should note that the new F-150's maximum gross combined rating (17,100 pounds) and maximum trailer weight (11,300 pounds) are still available with either the EcoBoost or big V-8 engine options.

Also worth noting are the new towing mirrors that will allow F-150 owners to opt for the electrically extendable and foldable rearview devices.  We'll have more on the new 2013 F-150 as soon as we can get one in our hands. For full technical specifications, click here. More to come.

Probably in the year 2019....that would be its 20 yr anniversary.

An improvement to be sure, but I still like my 1999 F150 XLT better.

i heard 2030 was the next new super duty 2019 sounds like the all new f150 hahaha

Why does the 'body' of the truck make a difference? The only reason haters say the Fords are the same for 15 years is because of the drop-down front window. Why would Ford drop something that is a clear benefit? Not because you think they should, that's for sure.
You can tell an '04 body from an '09 body simply by looking at the body lines. There are differences from style-to-style.
Of course if my favorite brand of truck always played second, or third, fiddle to another brand, I'd find any reason that I could to bash it. But you don't get to be #1 for 35 years by building crap. You don't get to OWN nearly every industry you're in by building crap.
Chevy may claim to have the most dependable, longest-lasting truck on the road, but we all know that's just smoke and mirrors. Ford quietly points out that they have more trucks on the road with 250k+ miles (see what they did there? an actual NUMBER?) and let's their sales do the talking.

LMFAO! Same old Ford, same old JUNK! They cant keep up with times, they keep using the same old JUNK truck body! Chevy is where its at! The most dependable, longest lasted fullsize pickup on the road with their legendary best in class 4x4 v8 fuel economy from the legendary 5.3 small block v8! Chevy doesn't need an update, updates means unproven JUNK! And Chevy is PROVEN GOLD! Ford is always updating with new JUNK! Soon GM will update and become the ultimate truck with all the great new stuff! GM WINS AGAIN!

"I was in a Chevy yesterday that had power folding mirrors. They weren't trailer mirrors and the switchs were a bit much. I wasn't too inpressed. The system is cleaner and simpler in the Ford" - Lou

Lou the troll has spoken. This is what I am talking about. This is a Ford post and you could not help but bring up Chevy and bash Chevy. Chevy will have new power fold tow mirrors next year, so keep trolling loser.

While Chevy is behind on it's innovations and features compared to Ford, the Silverado and Sierra are much better looking trucks.

I've tried and tried to like or appreciate the looks of the F150, but I can't. Too boxy and that grille is just too tacky.

Not trying to bash anyone or any truck...just my opinion.

I drive a Dodge.

Bobbeh makes a great point in a way, why don't ford build it right the first time? Instead of always updateing what they should have done to start with. Must be thats how they draw the poor fools in.

"Chevy doesn't need an update, updates means unproven JUNK! ... Soon GM will update and become the ultimate truck with all the great new stuff!"

Hilarious. Nothing like contradicting yourself within the same paragraph.

The GM Trolls are clueless as always. Most dependable long lasting....blah blah blah blah blah!!!! Marketing B.S.

Let the sales do the talking!

Ram trucks are clearly ahead in 2013. With their inovation and
great looks that all others try and imitate. Now with this year the
tow ratings are going to be more true i believe Ram trucks will
gain more in sales.Chrysler has long been known for inovation.
If there were no Ram trucks I would buy a ford.Chevy is garbage.

Chevy and Fiat-Ram fanboys are the least intelligent truck owners on the road today.

F-150 didn't loose any towing capability in compliance with j2807. Chevy did right? So much for the overblown towing capabilities the Chevy fans accused Ford of! Best truck wins again : )

Frank has been drinking the Ford Kool Aid so long it's pickled his brain. It's been years since an intelligent thought ran through his brain.

Doesn't fit my definition of "attractive" in any sense. Ungainly, maybe.

Lariat headlights + STX grill and bumper would look great. I hate too much chrome.

Yawn...

I like it, so it may be time to trade my 2008 ford F-150 off before long.

Anyone know if there will be a plow package for the 2013 f150?

Not a big fan of the [=] grill on the 150, and the radio/other controls/knobs. Same center console buttons/controls as the new explorer

wow, call the police F150 stole the headlights from an Edge and the grill from a Taurus. Not to mention that wannabe Super Duty grill on the LTX is pretty terrible.

Best looking F150 was the Platinum, hopefully they havent messed with that one too much. I swear to all powers above Chevy better take advantage of the chance Ford has just handed to them with this idiotic update, if they let this one slip, they truly are done.

Wow, thanks for thoroughly boring me again Ford.

Same Sh!t, different story, i have never seen a forums so messed up, i wonder if it is even safe to drive on the road these days someone might shoot just because of the kind of truck i drive

--Please Bob. Ford's are junk? Sorry pal, we have better body build quality than Chevrolet's, we have better interiors than Chevrolet's, We have better engines than Chevrolet's, our frames are properly coated unlike Chevrolet's, Our brakes are 4 wheel disc unlike Chevrolet's parts bin drums and our trucks are Far better looking than these ugly cartoon Chevrolet's. Chevrolet is a joke now. Nobody takes their truck seriously anymore. It's all Ford and Dodge. Might as well point out the obvious yet again... Who would even want one of these piles of garbage??

Because Ford already did their homework when they released the new engines and updated tranny in 2011.

I own a 2011 F-150, and a Chevy 1500, and when I went to buy the F-150, I couldn't get the good mirrors on the XL! I would have had to spen at least 40K on a XLT or better to get the best mirrors! Oh by the way I am happy with the service and comfort of both trucks!

BLUE OVAL EMPIRE HAS JOINED THE FORD TROLL BOY CLUB WITH FRANKIE AND LOUIE AND ALL OF THEIR OTHER CRONIES. ALL I HAVE TO SAY TO THEM IS GUTS GLORY RAM AND CHEVY RUNS DEEP. FORD JUST PLAIN SUCKS.

Sometimes the truth hurts.....GUTS, GLORY, RAM!!!!!!!!!

I bought a 2011 F-150, and am happy with it. i was bummed when the 2012 had an ecoboost with 36 gallon tank (i went with the 5.0L because of the 26 gal ecoboost tank). i enjoy my 5.0L but the ecoboost might have been nice with the extra fuel economy. i was bummed when the 2012 also had the max payload package for the crew cab, but still i have enough capacity in mine. I'm NOT bummed about the new front end in the 2013 XLT. I can safely say i'm way happier with my 2011 chrome over the 2013 XLT two bar look. the new center stack looks nice, but kinda reminds me of what should be in a focus or a fusion, not an f-150. lariat looks pretty sharp though.

2013 is in a different world compared to this Ford! The granular details that Ram has adopted have convinced me to wait and order te 2013 Ram. This after decades of only Germans BMW ad Mercedes. Way to go Ram!! Chevrolet?? Embarrassing!! Sick!!

@fake troll poster - My comment was relevant to the conversation where posters were pointing out that GM and Ram also have folding mirrors. Go to a car lot and sit in a Chevy with power folding mirrors and then climb into a Ford with the same feature and you will see what I mean.
Every year my town has a super sale at the fairgrounds. All of the dealers have their inventory there. It is great for comparing vehicles. You can sit in a Ford and then walk over to a Chev and sit in it. They tend to be more generous with test drives at the sale. I go every year whether or not I plan on buying something new.
I really liked the new 2013 Escape. I always hated the old one. I talked my wife out of buying the previous generation. I'd be hard pressed to do that with the new one.

One thing that wasn't mentioned, the E-locker is now an option on all of the F150 4x4's.

When are Ford and Chevy going to give you a passenger mirror that's auto dimming like the Ram has? How about the auto up feature for both front windows like Ram. Neither Ford or Chevy have this.

F-150 already has auto up down windows. When is Ram going to get a flat load floor and proper sized crewcab?

@Dean. In 2011 Ford only had auto down on the models I drove. Even Ford's brochure only stated auto down windows. The salesman told me they (Ford) didn't have them yet. Maybe 2012's have them.

I know people in the F-150 forums that have auto/up down windows on a 2011 F-150. Maybe they weren't on all of the 2011? Anyway, here are the specs on a 2012 F-150:

Power Windows With Driver and Passenger One-Touch Up and One-Touch Down

http://autos.yahoo.com/ford-truck/f-150-supercrew-4x2/2012/145-in-wb-xl-styleside/features.html

Also, here is the official 2011 brochure which states Power windows with one touch up /down feature.
http://www.ford.com/services/assets/Brochure?make=Ford&model=F-150&year=2011&postalCode=79705

For the record, My 2006 Ford King Ranch has the power folding mirror with all bell and whistles! go Ford!!

As for chevy trucks, they are what I called "Girly men trucks"!

I think these upgrades are nice. Chevy has a long way to go, although I won't buy a GM until they pay pack the tax payers the billions they owe.

THE BOTTON LINE IS FORD IS SELLING TRUCKS MORE THAT ANY OTHER BRAND OUT THERE ....SO THAT SOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING ...LOL .....FOR YOU HATERS FORD ROCKS ...:)

still the butt ugliest truck on the road. the last f-150 that looked good was made in 1979.

I have 5 older F350's from the 90's, so I looked at Ford 1st, but I must admit, the new Dodge is superior in most areas.

I don't know how people can think ford has good quality. Two of my friends have 09 and newer f-150s and both had to get new engines!! Worst part is ford wanted $20,000 to fix it! Not only that take a look at the door skins on a new f150 when you close it they rattle around and just look cheap just like their hideous grill not to mention the horrible paint that they come with. Bottom line no truck is perfect but ford is the cheapest made poor quality of the big 3!!
