Ram Truck Team To Hold Live Chat

Ram Live Chat II
Ram Truck will hold a live chat early next week on Facebook to answer any questions you might have regarding the coming 2013 Ram 1500. We're told that engineers and marketing people will be on hand to provide you with all the info they know about the new truck.

We recently saw several 2013 Ram 1500s at the Chrysler Product Day (full story is still on its way, we promise), but we were not allowed to drive any of them at the event. That will come later this fall.

The Facebook page has a few videos about the new truck and photos from the videos where the head of Ram Truck marketing screams up in a new Maserati Quattroporte (remember that Fiat owns Maserati, too) to begin talking about the many new pieces of technology on the new Ram 1500. Head over to the "Engineering a Giant" Facebook page to sign up and get more details.

just wanna know the MPGs for the 8 speed and PENTASTAR!!

@Big Roy... I'm also instrested in those 8 speed Pentastar MPG, HP and towing numbers. I also want to know if we will see many Regular Cab Short Beds with Ram Box at the Dealerships?

26 mpg it will be!

GUTS GLORY RAM!

The orientation to the headrest has prevented me from buying a Ram. I am short and prefer to postion the seat in a fairly upright position. The current Ram's headrest pushes my chin down to the point of being uncomfortable. I understand the safety issues with the close proximity to a persons head to prevent whiplash. But, the Ram is the only truck that has the headrest protruding so far forward as to be in contact with the back of your head. I and the dealer have tried to adjust the headrest but to no avail. It is not the height adjustment it is the forward orientation to the headrest that is the problem. My question is: has the orientation of the headrest been changed from the 2012 model or do I buy a Ford?

"You have to like this page before you can..."

I hate how all of these comanies are jumping on the Facebook bandwagon. I don't do facebook and never will. Since Facebook is required I guess I won't be participating in the chat or the auction.

Stop forcing Facebook down everyone's throats. From my standpoint Facebook privacy sucks and we don't need the whole world knowing what we are doing. From Ram's standpoint as a business they should use their own site that they control and that they control the layout and ads and consumer data on. Ford truck chats don't require Facebook and they do it on their own site, open to anyone, and you don't have to "like" anything.

Facebook sucks.

Why does Facebook suck?

Dido what Ken said.

Two things.

1. Sports car-inspired aerodynamics ensures the new 2013 RAM 1500 will have best-in-class fuel economy. Learn more in our new video "Strength Evolved: Air Power." http://on.fb.me/PqOIlL

@ not really a hemi in a ram - "Sports car-inspired aerodynamics"
That is really really funny. Who's sportscar did they seek inspiration from? It has to be a very old one or a very slow one or both.

@ Lou, I see your jealousy has gotten the best of you again. What ever hope you had of having the best truck on the road with your 2010 Ford has been dashed by the 2013 Ram truck.
The most advanced truck on the market. Think of this positively
With your Fords good trade in you can get the best truck on the road. The 2013 Ram.

@ not really a hemi V8 - "jealousy"???? Do you actually believe the stuff you post?
"Sports car inspired design" is hyperbole at its finest. Who was the marketing moron that came up with that one?
What next?
They going to say that the 2013 Ram is based on the 2013 Viper?
That is all I was making fun of; that and the fact that there are guys who swallow it hook line and sinker.
As far as trading my truck off on a new one, WHY? My truck is exactly what I wanted, just like your 2003 truck was the one you wanted. That makes both of our trucks the best one's on the road. Yours is best for you and mine is best for me.

I love the new Ram and do like the air suspension, the huge touch screen, and the clean center console because of the transmission selector - that said "sports car inspired" aerodynamics is a bit much on the marketing side. It would be like saying the transmission selection method was "inspired by Jaguar". Quit it and hire a new marketing firm. Sell the aerodynamics as a fuel saving technology, that is what folks care about.

That said, I have pointed out to my Jaguar owning buddy that a transmission selector like that in his $125,000 Jag XJ SuperSport is coming to a truck nearby...

Quote: "They going to say that the 2013 Ram is based on the 2013 Viper?"

Actually, if they are honest, they need to say the Viper has a truck engine. Of course, Chevy needs to say the same thing about the Corvette.

Active grill shutters have been around since the 1920's, then they were used to control coolant temp and were on high end cars. Might be cool to show an early Packard and the Dodge Dart using active grill shutters...

Ram is going overboard with this aerodynamics thing. Typical overhyping by Ram.

They lowered the air dam and extended the side steps. Is that Ram a sports car now? They did nothing with the body panels. The sports car comparison is a joke.

Lastly, the air suspension system is not an upgrade, but rather a fix to the coil spring suspension that compromises suspension geometry under load. Don't get me wrong, it is desirable for some, but Chrysler would have never implemented it had the current coil spring suspension not been so flawed. And if it breaks, that is another maintenance issues that should have never been.

Hemi, Although Lou's truck is a few years older it is still has a few key advantages. Why would Lou trade his basically still new truck in for a vehicle with poor crash testing ratings? 2 star front crash test ratings? A bumpy no flat load floor? A smaller crewcab rear seating area? A 2" smaller bed? No tailgate step? Less payload? Better autocross and loaded ride quality? Etc.

Most advanced? I think not. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or as Bob used to say, beer holder.

*Worse autocross.

Who are you kidding? I love the idea of getting rid of the jacked up look the giant leaf springs on the F150 create - and the back of the F150 is "see-through" from the side as it is jacked up so high. Terrible look simply to get the payload - the air suspension fixes it and Ford should worry.

Who would have thunk a bunch of car guys from Fiat could revive MoPar? They are doing and the sales figures show it. Chevy needs to look at this and fire all the accountants and folks hired from "consumer" companies currently running the place.

when your car CEO says people buy cars like they buy consumer electronics you need a new CEO...

Tom,

2 star front crash is for heavy duty Ram only. Light duty Ram gets 4 stars.

Ram has incraesed its front crash ratings from 2 stars a couple years ago to 4 stars today.

Ram side ratings have not been reported yet. Ram did have 1 star side pole test for 2012. That is an issue with new vehicles, since models that are all-new or significantly refreshed may not be tested for up to a year or more after they reach the market.

F-150 has 4 star front driver but 3 star front passenger.

Chevy Silverado lighty duty has done the best, but does not perform as well on IIHS testing and neither did Ram. Ideally you want a truck that has good ratings on both of them and not focus on one or the other. I would tend to avoid or at least be concerned about models that receive any "Marginal" or "Poor" results from the IIHS...

-THIS! How awesome is that!

-And THIS! Chevrolet has been detsroyed with this last piece of crap truck and even the one before it. And guess what, we're getting another stupid old column shifter and an old 6 speed in our "new" truck. 50 billion dollars later and these guys Still can't build a truck worth buying. We'll probably get more wax dipped frames, piston slap, cheap ass interiors and ugly formed tinfoil body metal too. I'll keep driving old Chevy trucks (anything pre 1999) and old Chevy hot rods but my next new truck it looks will not be a Chevrolet Silverado. Dodge Ram is looking mighty fine about now. I've about had it with the once mighty Bowtie. I really have.

Lou -

It is pretty clear that you work for Ford or are a Ford owner.

I would take a smaller bed and cab for better fuel economy any day. It is called a trade off!

Funny how you don't mention active grilles which first appared on Porsche sports cars. These grilles help with aerodynamics and that is the point Ram was making in their sports car anology! They didn't say it was a sports car. They said it was SIMILAR to one and with the air suspension it might as well be!

@Brad, Thanks for the facts. The Ford fans are seeing red. I love it. Maybe the aero comparison was to bring that gorgeous
Maserati into the picture. When you are the leader in aero i guess you can say what inspired it.

Lou - Educate yourself.

Air suspension for better mileage, ride control, loading, and clearance

The 2013 Ram 1500 has an optional air suspension system which optimizes ride and aerodynamics, while adding load-leveling. Air pressure increases until the vehicle reaches normal ride height, leveling the truck and improving the loaded ride. It has five height settings that operate automatically or via console or key fob controls:
•Normal Ride Height (NRH): 8.7 inches of clearance (from the base of the door sill) is the default, load-leveled ride height
•Aero: Lowers the Ram by 1.1 inches, increasing gas mileage by up to 1%. It is activated by speed.
•Off-road 1 and 2: Lifts the vehicle 1.2 and 2 inches, respectively, to clear obstacles
•Park: Lowers the truck by 2 inches from NRH for easy entry/exit and cargo loading

50 billion dollars later and these guys Still can't build a truck worth buying.

@Brian, 50 billion bucks later and they can't even ditch that low slung frame and go back to doing it the proper way they used to. Tucked up straight high inside the body with a beam axle up front. Dodge gets it done right with proper designs underside, inside and outside. Chevrolet has turned into a bad joke now. Why anyone buyes their junk is beyond my comprehension. Our sales increases and their sales decreases make me laugh every day. Silverado will be done for at postion #2 within a year. GovMoCo blows. I look forward to the chat!!

It is true we have Ford workers posting on this blog. What they say about Ram and Chysler is not true. It is lies. All lies!

@Hemi V8 -

You got that right.

Speak to me Ram fans!!!!!!!!

GUTS GLORY RAM

I have put some facts out as I am considering this truck, that said it better be good to get me out of my E-class Mercedes (as I think I need a boat and something to tow it, we all need a boat, right?).

Price needs to be right, V6 towing needs to beat the 7400 lbs on the Grand Cherokee, and the V6 need to be offered with high option (eg Laramie Limited) packages. Get any of these wrong and the 2014 Ford likely surpasses you before you get a chance like this again. A big price jump and it is over.

By the way, 2 Brads and a Bradley are posting on this thread, so have fun determining who is who.

Quote: "GovMoCo blows."

Quotes like this make me laugh. So you can buy from GovMoCo or the Italians who now own Ram? I do prefer the Italians but lets get over this faux patriotism (also, lets hope the Alfa Romeo being developed with Mazda as the next Miata is great and makes it here as an Alfa).

General (Government) Motors and that Italian company Chrysler are walking dead corporations, they just don’t know it yet. Give them a couple of years.

One of the main purposes of a bankruptcy proceeding is to allow a company to shed the chains that have dragged it into this state. Thus, it emerges from the proceeding in a stronger condition -- with a chance to succeed.

The problem with these bankruptcy proceedings is that the heaviest chains -- the union contracts and pensions -- remain in place. Everybody else took it in the shorts -- the bondholders, the white-collar employees and many of the dealers.

But what caused the company to fail in the first place remains an integral part of the business.

It's only a matter of time...

"Sports car inspired design" is hyperbole at its finest. Who was the marketing moron that came up with that one?

@Lou, Watch your mouth. Put your jeously aside an educate yourself. Educate yourself so you have some knowledge on what you are talking about! Meet Dave Sowers, head of Ram Truck marketing!

RAMMMMM

Hey faithful ram truck owners,

Please educate yourself further. You want to pick on the less intelligient, well heres some medicine for you.

Pickup trucks are not sports cars. They may be "sports car" aspired, but less emphasis on "sport" .Whats the fastest 0-60 mph time excluding limited edition models or defunct models such as Lightening and SRTt 10.

Look at traction. Do you think the ram can pull the same g's on the skid plate while on the tracks? Will it even be close to the viper, its inspiration?

Next look at weight. Do you think pickup trucks are as nimble as sports cars. Even the mighty lightening or srt 10 will be outclassed by the corvette, certainly the viper, don't forget the mustang (boss or not), hell even throw in the 350z, boxster, etc. The last thing pickup trucks are is spry, and certain so for a two ton machine.

What is your knowledge on gear ratios, transmissions and engines?

I wish stupid people would either think before they speak, or better yet, not speak at all.

I am all in favor of of the F150, Silverado/Sierra and Ram. However, the RAM truck fans have become cynical recently and ill-blinded in their philosophy. Sure, twist the facts, that's called BIAS. One guy got it right that in life, there are ALWAYS tradeoff and it doesn't matter what it is. Choose one thing and lose the next which is the very definition of opportunity cost.

Basically, I'm calling out all RAM trucks fans. Your blind knowledge is squed and hypocritical. Take a minute to think guys and be amazed at how much smarter you sound. Learn the facts or study it before you speak. Nobody wants to hear something from somebody who doesnt know what their talking about.

It's hard to have rational conversations here, and typically I do not respond but simply read the articles. I am apalled by the childish name calling or put-downs. Really, either grow up or grow some balls. Leave the playground bullying at home. Its not cool to be stupid anymore.

I simply find it difficult to read the article then try to embrace the idiotic remarks by most( but not all).

To conclude, the only regular users with authentic comments that I enjoy reading are Lou, Frank, Robert Ryan, and occasionally Jason H. and Jeff S..

@allistar, Wow thank you so much for the facts. I had no idea that pick ups were not sports cars. I thought if a muscle car had a hemi and the truck had a hemi they were the same. Let me educate you. "sports car inspired".

INSPIRED=SPIRIT TO DO SOMETHING.

You took it literally.

I hope the kids on facebook are interested in half ton Ram pickups.

@Ken, Facebook is for older people, not kids! Clearly you have not even tried Facebook and don't know what you are talking about. Lucky for you, you can learn Facebook quickly. Sign up on Facebook for FREE. Then you can join the chat and check out the auction!

GUTS GLORY RAM

@Hemi V8, Are you gonna bid on anything?

"Sports car inspired design" is hyperbole at its finest. Who was the marketing moron that came up with that one?
What next?
They going to say that the 2013 Ram is based on the 2013 Viper?

@Lou, Do you Facebook? Why don't you be a man and ask Ram those questions in the chat?!

@Brad - I was making fun of a rabid Ram guy with the sports car comment.
Active grill shutters were used for decades on heavy machinery including class 8 trucks. They weren't for aerodynamics but for engine heat regulation.
Does that mean they can make more heavy commercial application linkages to their Ram HD's like what they do now with the Cummins?
The shutters on the Ram are reported to improve aerodynamics by what? 2 - 3%.
The typical North American could loose 20 lb and gain more mpg for free. LOL
Will the cost of Ram's air ride suspension be offset by increased aerodynamics and therefore MPG?
Does anyone know what the air ride will cost?
Many exotic sports cars have active suspensions but they don't use air.
I didn't comment on the "2 inches" size difference because I wouldn't want to upset the rabid Ram types further since they do seem to be overcompensating for something........ like being 2 inches shorter than everyone else ;) Wow - now I know why they are so excited about the 2013 Ram CrewCab. It measures up just like they do. A few inches short! ROTFLMFAO.
That 2 inch difference will come into play for guys with slide in canopies, work boxes, small campers etc. and want to be able to close the tailgate. It would be easier to skip over the Ram and buy another Ford instead of having to change all of that other gear. I wonder if Ram thought of that?

@HEMI MAN - No I don't since I'm not insecure enough to need to keep in touch with every person I've ever met in my life, nor am I narcissistic enough to let the world see my life in photos.
What ever happened to walking over to a buddy's place for a chat, or driving down to the local coffee shot to bench race with a bunch of guys? or talking to a car saleman who actually knew every nut and bolt on the new models?
Yup FaceBook, Twitter, the WWW. A vast wasteland of disinformation.
