Where We're Headed: State Fair of Texas

State Fair of Texas

The State Fair of Texas promotes itself as having one of the most well-attended auto shows in the world, mainly because the show sits inside the Dallas-Fort Worth city limits and runs continuously for almost 30 days. And since more pickup trucks are sold in Texas than anywhere else in the country, you can see why this state fair has become a hot spot for truck makers to show off their biggest and brightest models. And that's why we're headed there again this year.

We haven't heard much in the form of major new-truck reveals, but there is always something there that's big news. We will get to drive some new Fords, and we may get more Ram Truck info. We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, we'll be posting what we can and let you know if we find out anything interesting. Stay tuned.

Nice truck

Dodge has the most homoerotic names for their trucks...Big Horn, Long Horn, Long Hauler, even the brand name: RAM...

...not that there's anything wrong with that.

I wonder if Ford will have the Brokeback Mountain Edition Super Duty there?

Nice truck, lousy photo of it. I do understand the composition, but the lighting and reflection on the side of the truck makes the bed look like it's been cut down towards the front and destroys the lines. Full sun would have made the contrast harsher, but might have alleviated that distracting reflection.

@DWFields agree 100%, the lighting and angle for the photograph make the truck appear to have terrible body shape.

@Jimmy why, is that the one you were hoping a truck manufacturer would make so you can buy it with your boyfriend? (had to do it, those kind of comments ask for ridicule)

DWFields, I agree the angle is not flattering. Looking forward to some updates from any of the brands at the fair.
By the way, the fair is in Dallas, not Dallas-Fort Worth.

On further study, a polarizing filter on the lens would have helped immensely. You really need to kill those reflections.

I'm not real fond of the rear fenders on the RAM. At certain angles, it can look confused & loses the flow of the body lines.
But, thats all that I can fault on the new RAM.
Already seeing dented rear fenders, I still prefer the plastic ones on my 2003.

just dodge practicing being left on the side of the rd.lol coulden't help it thats what the pic looks like it being left by the rd side.

Only GM and Toyota actually build trucks in Texas.

How does PUTC miss that the 2013 Ram HD is going to be released there?

Ram posted this info on their home page a couple of days ago.

@ Jason H.

So I guess thats what you think because thats what you are...Its discusting but whatever floats your boat !!

I dislike people like you all my life. just because your mind is perverted and thats all you think about.

It's like the people that say you drive a big truck or big/sporty/muscle car because you have a small cetain male body part ! You people are discusting !!

We drive these vehicles because we like them,Dodge names their trucks because they are good names ! ( By the way GM used Long Horn back in the early 70's !! Dodge used Sierra in the 40's & 50's !)

By the way I always liked big trucks,big old classic cars since I was 4 years old...as I am told, I can can assure you I didnt think about any certain body part at that age ,you are a pervert and discuting typical liberal !! Sick perverted minds,and all you think about is race and sexual orientatian ...Now I know what Jason H stands for Hom.....al !

Are you guys gonna have a meet up like you did a few years ago? It was fun to meet you guys and other PUTC readers.

I wonder if the trolls would show up like Frank, Fordtrucks1, BlueOvalEmpire, etc.)?

The Ram is one aweful truck i heard fiat is moveing Ram production to China! The Ram boys will love that Tabby cat skin seats chinese newspaper dash cheap chinese steel for the frame etc etc . Comeing your way Ram fairys Guts Glory made in china haha

And I heard everybody who likes Harleys and F150s like to give little boys H.J.s

@Jason H.

I agree with you there. It just seems like Dodge (uh, Ram Trucks, I mean...) has the simplest of folks naming their products... Ram Runner, RamCharger, Power Wagon. Nothing exciting or creative...
It is like they have 6 or 7 words in a hat and they pull out 2 at random and tah-dah!

"The Ram is one aweful truck i heard fiat is moveing Ram production to China!'

The cost of moving the entire production of RAM's to China would be insane and therefore is not even worth mentioning it.

But instead of using your brain and spell check, you've opted to act like a troll that you apparently are.

Guts. Glory. Fiat.

Hmmm... yes. Let's think about that, SVTChris. About that Raptor--are you thinking the eagle, protected by our government or the dinosaur--only showing up as bones once in a while?

Don't disparage somebody else's naming convention when yours are no better. Hmmm?

@Harleyf150: since you are always talking smack about Ram 2500 being crap, and Rams in general, maybe you could look here?

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliability.aspx?year=2004&make=Ford&model=F-250%20Super%20Duty&trimid=97238#VIP_TAB

And compare these to the Ram and GM 2500. You will find the F-250 had lots of issues. The Ram was decent. The Chevy with the diesel was ok powertrain wise, but the rest of the truck....

It's funny you and the other folks want to say "Guts, Glory (and attach whatever crap on there) But atleast Ram has the guts to try something differant. Instead of the same old leaf spring (half ton) truck. Now they are having guts to try air bags. Ford? Still building same old. Especially the 250! Old stuff!

So, do you know where all the parts come from on your truck? I would bet Ford has a good deal from China. Bet my 2010 and a new 2013 Ram has more NORTH AMERICAN content then your Harley truck (complete with build it bigger 6.2 to make more power, cause it's out dated.)

Oh, my friend has a Heritage Softail. He does get disgruntled about the amount of Chinese parts on it. But he has a Tundra which probaly has as much NORTH AMERICAN content as your show truck.

@TRX4 Tom - Good points. odd pair - Harley and Tundra. Usually Harley guys are even more biased than truck guys.

@DWFields - Ouch ;)

Looks like my previous post didn't make it or got cut by PUTC.

All I said was that advertising uses masculinity, femininity, virility etc to sell products. Jason H's comment if funny but Ram/Dodge is trying to tie the brand to the rugged outdoorsman western cowboy. The phallic symbolism may not be intentional. It does convey a subliminal message that if you buy a Ram you are as rugged as all of the western names stitched on the upholstery.
Advertising and mass media do push the false agenda that one needs 4 things to be happy: youth, beauty, health, and wealth.
Advertising sends the message that if you buy their product you can compensate for the lack of those 4 ingredients or give the false impression that you have all 4.

In Houston I saw a Doge Ram Big Horn Editions, where the owner had added a "Y" and it read "Big Horny Edition"

I'm beginning to think that you boys are just that....13-14 year old little boys. Grow the f^(# up and stop all this baby bull $h!% talk. The adults would love to come here and read honest reviews and reports based on the articles but after 2 or 3 post you idiots come on here and start your bickering every dang thread. I bet you all go to sleep and dream about the cool comeback you will have tomorrow when the Ford Troll talks smack about the GM Troll.....

Is there not a freaking Moderator to look over the posts?

Now ... I personally hope that some news about the new BIG HEMI will be posted soon. That will be my next purchase in a 2500, CREW, LB, with some 4.10's.

@Mark Williams: can you get us some airbag equiped 1500 payload numbers?

@Hemi Rules:

"So I guess thats what you think because thats what you are...Its discusting but whatever floats your boat !!

Can't type...laughing...too...hard...Wow, just...wow.

All that and I'm a liberal too?

Good times...good times. :D

I guess I am a liberal to since I prefer smaller more fuel efficient trucks. Go figure. Buy what you like and you don't have to give any reasons or excuses. Who know maybe I will buy a Prius and then I could be called a Communist.

PS-Nice looking Ram

I guess I am a real leftist anyway. My steering wheel is on the left side. Big Al and Robert Ryan are not leftist because their steering wheels are on the right side.

@Jason H. - That vicious attack from @Hemiphobe Rules must of been devastating. Better swing by the Star Bucks and get a nice hot Latte on your way to the Re-Ellect Obama campaign office.

@Lou:
No kidding... That guy should be careful or my delicate Obama-loving feelings could get hurt.

@Lou--Make that a double latte with an extra shot of expresso. I'll take one of those myself at the drive thru window in my socialist midsize truck that is a niche product. A niche latte to go in a niche truck.

@Jason H-You would feel Obummered over Hemi Rules getting torqued up about your comments especially since he is from another Hemi sphere. Hemi Rules appears to be a Challenger and will Ram you with his Long Horns.
