Video Roundup: Tundra, Ram Ads, GM CNGs

These three pickup truck videos are keeping things exciting in the pickup truck world. Have a look.

1. Toyota Kicks Off ‘Tundra Endeavour’ Site

Toyota has created a website devoted to its role in pulling the space shuttle Endeavour across a Los Angeles freeway overpass. The site includes a video (above) that documents the preparation and testing involved in using a stock Toyota Tundra V-8 to haul the now-retired shuttle.

2.Chrysler Debuts Ram Commercials

Chrysler announced a new ad campaign for the Ram, called "Moving Heaven and Earth." The spot touches on the highlights of the Ram 1500, such as the Pentastar V-6 and eight-speed automatic transmission. The ads will start airing this weekend.

3. 2013 Bi-Fuel Pickup Comparison: Siverado/Sierra vs. Ram

GM recently posted a video comparing the bi-fuel Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra against the Ram and (to a lesser extent) Ford counterparts. In the video, a GM project trainer spells out how the Silverado and Sierra have the Ram beat on model availability, cargo, payload and towing capacity.

Comments

I can out pull any tundra with my cummins

Guts
Glory
Rama!!!

GM CNG, for those who want to run bifuel, but prefer to run Gasoline. What a Joke.

Good lord, that last commercial is horrible. Why would anyone in their right mind buy this Chevy Silverado over the Dodge Ram? Looks? Hell no. Interior quality and luxury? Hell no. Add to it the wax dipped frames compared to the painted frames and SFA's of HD Dodge and Ford. The Chevy is one POS truck with a nice engine. That's where it ends.

And dealer locations? Pfft. Is that the best they've got? "We have a dealer nearby for when it breaks down". Give me a break. How about you build a better looking, higher quality, higher class truck first Chevy. Then we'll talk. As of right now, Dodge has it all over you. So does Ford.

They blew off the Ford for some suspect reason about location probably because it wasn't in GM's favor to go up against the Ford, but against the Ram they made some valid points on payload, cargo and towing.

I think that Ram is the class leader pointing the direction all of the automakers will head towards.

@ Pentastar V6 that engines suck man and funny to see you blogging under other names Hemi V8 and you are most likley the other mopar queens on this site!!! I just saw a new 2013 red Ford Limited f150 at the Ford dealer today has sold on the windshield what a beauitful truck ! Ford just chalked up another new truck sale . All Ram has to offer is ppl like this freak show that bloggs under a bunch of names creepy just creepy!!

The Ram logo looks like the female reproductive system.
hmmmmm...... girly truck with girly parts on it.

The first 2 video's are better done. People do not have the attention spans to adsorb much information. Looking at GM's ad, the spirit of Howie Long lives on. Political attack ads live one.

There were some interesting facts. Dealer networks would be a "least of my problems" concern for a big fleet. It might be for a small contractor. The GMC trucks outperform the Ram in every category. 25% versus 40% loss of bed space would be a huge concern for a work truck. The tow/haul difference is also huge.
Dodge does offer an optional larger tank. Thank you GMC for once again for highlighting features of competitor's trucks. If I knew I could get an optional bigger tank........DOH...... No brainer. Any company would not piss around with an 8 gallon tank.

I looked at the WestPort site and I can plainly see why GMC did not target Ford. Here are some interesting exerpts from their Q&A section:
•Available in all body-styles and bed-lengths as well as a 1-ton variant
•Is 150–200 lbs. lower in installed mass depending on tank size (compared to GMC)
•Offers two alternative CNG tank sizes—both are higher-technology type-4
•Retains the full 35 gallon gasoline tank
•Has only one tank in the bed of the truck (compared to Ram)
•Is 300–350 lbs. lower in installed mass depending on tank size (compared to Ram)
•Causes no reductions to OEM-rated towing and hauling specs

One more comment that in many respects was the most disturbing.
GMC refered to their trucks as being available in regular and long box configurations.
Since when has an 8 foot box been considered a long box and NOT a regular box???????
That sums up the truck market rather well don't you think?
Short boxes are regular!!!!!

Chrysler HQ is now displaying a new building wrap touting the 2013 Ram 1500 at 25 MPG. Best in Class!

This is it.

http://blog.chryslerllc.com/entry/1920/ram_wraps_it_up

The Toyota thing is stupid. Anyone with a brain would realize any fullsize pickup would pull it.

The Ram ad is pretty good. Sam Elliott is a good spokesman, way better then Howie Long and Mike Rowe. However, the gear selector dial is just awful IMO.

The GM one looks like a dealer training video don't think it was meant to be an ad. But, I don't see CNG trucks being very big sellers.

What happened to the good ads where the Ford is pulling the Dodge up the hill with the Chevy across its bed, the Dodge dropping from the ceiling or the Chevy pulling the barn.

Imagine an ad with the new 2014 Chevy and GMC pulling a Tundra in half.

RAM RULES!!!!

@Goat Herder - Ram Rules?
Doesn't look like that is the case with CNG.
A Ram 1500 with Pentastar engine and 8 speed would come close to outperforming the Ram HD CNG conversion. Purchase cost would be markedly less. You probably could get 2 Ram 1500's for the price of 1 Ram CNG HD at fleet rates.
At least Chev and Ford give you HD performance in a CNG configuration.

Toyota is recalling a breathtaking 7.4 million vehicles worldwide for a power window glitch that is a potential fire risk. It's the single biggest recall in the industry since Ford recalled 8 million cars in 1996 for an ignition issue that also could have caused engine fires.

Flames

Fires

Ford & Toyota!!

I hardly comment and just read the articles and browse the comments, but "HEMI V8" is really annoying me. I have owned both Ford and Chevy in the past decade and think both have their strengths and weaknesses. I was considering trying out a 2013 Ram 1500 for my next truck, but this guy's comments are really putting me off. It's like he has a Napoleon complex with his truck brand. Seriously "Hemi V8" Ram has problems too with fire. You don't have to keep posting about Toyota's and Ford's recall or posting that asinine "Ram, Guts, Glory" slogan. Please calm the heck down. The truck will speak for themselves. For the love of God, please don't scare anymore potential buyers.

@Storm
I became interested in this site about 6 months ago and found that Hemi V8 holds a special place amongst the contributors.

I think he also uses other names as well. He could be tri or quad polar if that is possible with a touch of Fragile X syndrome.

I wonder how he can perform in a social or even a work environment.

To a degree we all troll, but what is trolling. I have my beliefs and so do many others. Standing by them doesn't make you a troll though.

But, continually posted irrevalant articles like he does doesn't help Fiat at all.

He might be a 10-11 year old.

Remember, its all perception on how we see the world. And maybe the planet he lives on is the best :)

@Big AL

You and Lou seem to make the most "PC" posts. I'd clank a glass with you guys any day.

Cheers,

-Storm

BTW... I would rather read posts from the real Oxi.

@Storm, I came on this site 7 months ago and was cool to all.
Then TROLLS like Lou, Frank, cory, Keith started in with their Ford truck bull after there precious ford got whipped by the Ram Runner. I am not the only one using the hemi name on this site.In fact someone is posting under my name at times. I could car less what you think of Ram or Dodge. I had a P.O.S Ford once it burned from a faulty switch and I lost thousands.

P.S. I can post what ever I want on here so kiss my @$$!

All Guts

All Glory

All best in class Ram!

@Hemi V8

Real mature son. Peace be with you.

One last thing "Hemi V8" I know you don't care, but I've been visiting this site for the past 2 years and you are the only one that I can't stand. God forgive me. I can even stand Bob more. From now on I will ignore your posts and still give Ram a shot.

Real People

You can thank the TROLLS storm. Your Ford kool aid crowd.

Looks like Rambo's Depends are in a wad.

@Storm
- it is Ford's fault that Rambo didn't get insurance for his Mustang and it burned to the ground.
- it is my fault for trying to counter a continuous stream of Rambo Motard Goat Droppings.
- it is everyone else's fault for not seeing that any product that Chrysler choses to put the Hemi name upon is the greatest engine ever made.(Even though it isn't really a hemi (5.7) and Chrysler even called a Mitsubishi 4 banger a Hemi)
- it is everyone's fault that Ram is in 3rd place.
- it somehow is our fault for the Raptor losing a test to a markedly more expensive and rather useless real world product.
See the pattern here?
- it is Ford and Toyota's fault for beating the mighty Power Wagon in a shootout.
- it is Totota's fault that Pearl Harbour was bombed.
- it is everyone else's fault that Rambo is not a troll but a prophet of the Mopar god and of the saviour Marchionne.

Seems to be a definite trend here............

I must be a troll for saying:

I think that Ram is the new benchmark and compass pointing the direction all of the automakers will head towards.
Posted by: Lou | Apr 13, 2012 3:14:19 PM

That sounds like a troll comment. Heaven forbit that I say anything that controversial and false to cause striff and disention in the PUTC ranks.

Rambo is exercising his freedom of speech.
It is his constitutional right to sound like a moron (even though this is a privately owned site).

Rambo is upset when we exercise our own freedom of speech by pointing out that he sounds like a moron.

Everyone that opposed the Rambo Motard Goat Herder's Association is a troll........

Wow.

Earth to planet Hemi V8..........

Come in planet Hemi V8..........

Houston............................

There is no intelligent life out there.................

@Lou

Even though you're a Ford owner, to me you've always been real and seem to give credit where it is due despite the brand. RESPECT.

I used to visit this site religiously everyday. Now it's every other day. This site used to be awesome. Sad.

Rams with a loose nut as opposed to loose nuts for Ram ;0

@Lou, You got fire extinguishers in your Ford and Toyota LMFAO???????

@Lou, speaking of morons. What engine does ford have to match the horsepower and MPG that the Hemi has???

Hemi V8 is a good person and just doing his thing to support what he believes in.

Just let Hemi V8 be.

Some players you pat their butts, some players you kick their butts, some players you leave alone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqEirjbHekg

EcoBoost beats the Hemi 8 speed on payload, towing and 0-60.

They just have to test mpg in the real world.

@Dave, I agree.

Hemi V8's words, good humor and reports are enjoyed worldwide! Pickuptrucks.com makes it all possible.

He is third in popularity only to oxi and Bob. When they say they hate their posts they really mean they LOVE to hate them!

Keep up the good work.

@Dave - you want me to pat his butt?

Which players do you leave alone?

Anyone who has played team sports knows that the ones you leave alone are the meek; the weak; and the geeks.

Does he fit any of those 3 criteria?

Chrysler hasn't made a real hemi since the 70's.

@Hemi V8, These guys don't have a life. Just KEEP DOING what you do. The hec with them. Guts Glory Ram!

Hemi V8 represents the 47% very well.

That GM video is comical. To say they are not going to compare to Ford, but then compare somewhat when it's in their favor is just hilarious. Not what you'd expect from a leader.
The Ram videos are good, but I have a hard time buying that knob for a shifter. It seems too dainty and difficult reach when rocking or maneuvering through r-d-r-d situations. I can't imagine trying to hold your fingers steady on the knob as you bounce through rough terrain. It does give you more open space though so maybe it's a fair trade off. Has anyone driven a truck with this yet?

Its weird, we got rid of Oxi, and all of a sudden Hemi v8 shows up????

Heh. Don't you see, guys? "Hemi" is trolling like that to ensure none of us ever considers a RAM. He wants RAM to die almost as much as the rest of you anti-RAM drivers. Heh. For that matter, I wouldn't mind myself--I'd prefer RAM to be JEEP and look like Jeeps (the Wrangler and original Wagoneer series) rather than these conventional road whales (I just had to put that in) that honestly don't interest me.

That said, despite all the complaints about "girly trucks" and "girly steps", I have to admit I like the fact that Ford went and built in a step to make it easier to climb into and out of the bed of their trucks--I'm getting and and am not as flexible as I used to be. I also like the fact that RAM is making use of what is typically wasted space in many trucks now--those plastic drop-in bed liners severely cut into the cargo area and RAM seems to be the only brand that's found a way to use that space. It's not pretty, but it does offer something most of the others don't--lockable storage. Combined, a storage box on both side walls like that offer double the lockable, hidden storage that my old '96 Camaro offered. Heck, I don't have any lockable storage on my Jeep or Ford F-150 now.

Personally, of the three US brands I like the looks of the Chevy/GMC most (not trying to fake a big-rig look) and I honestly couldn't care less about racetrack performance or how heavy a load it can carry/tow. To be quite blunt, very, very few people will use their truck to its fullest capacity. Sure, a farmer or rancher might--occasionally, but as an everyday driver for most of us, that's a waste of money and gas.

Even if you're a full-time RVer with a big fifth-wheel trailer you don't even approach the limits of an HD and you're usually well within the limits of even a 1/2-ton rig powered by a V-8. Go with a lighter trailer and even a V-6 half-ton can pull a 5,000 pound travel trailer. So no, for all that these brands are touting load capacities and massive horsepower, most of us will never use that ability.

To me reliability is far more important; I don't want to take my rig back to the shop after every camping trip pulling a little 4,000# pop-up camper (as if I had one). I don't want to see recalls for split fuel lines, rotting brake lines or stuck accelerators. I got 160,000 miles out of that '96 Camaro in only 6 years. I got 130,000 miles out of a 4-banger Saturn Vue in 8 years before I sold it to my in-Laws who are still driving it. the 23-year-old F-150 I bought this past spring has 145,000 miles on it and the 5 liter engine still accelerates strongly and gives me almost 20mpg highway while passing Maryland State emissions testing with amazingly low numbers. Reliability, not power, is the better test of a truck or car. This is one reason why Chevy's commercials seem more relevant than any other brand's, including Toyota.

Whups! That was meant to say, "I'm getting OLD and not as flexible..."

There is something going on here. I believe Hemi has proven himself to be for Ram, but Dave is now supporting him because he knows Hemi hurts the Ram brand. Would that be accurate? I agree with Dave. Let Hemi speak. It's a free country and this is great for Ford in a roundabout way!

Yes let Hemi V-8 speak because I have now been cured from ever wanting a Chrysler product. Also let the GM bashers continue as well because if GM is not going to survive then why waste my time and money on a GM product. That leaves Ford who Dave told me does not need my cheap business. From all the fanboy comments I will stay away from American brand trucks and cars because they are all crap. That leaves me with the Japanese and Korean brands which before 1994 I had supported Honda and Mitsubishi. Please keep up the fanboy comments because they are curing me from my addiction to US brands.

Hemi not hurting the Ram brand. That is a lie. The facts are Hemi had a Mustang once that he lost in a fire and it cost his thousands. He could have sued Ford but chose not to. I feel for you, Hemi, I really do. Hemi owns a 2003 Ram and will buy another Ram in a heartbeat.

Hemi is the ultimate testimonial for Ram. Hemi V8 has the guts to speak his mind, so that he can have the glory that we know Ram delivers.

Speaking of lies Lou is going to deny he said Ram was the class leader just as soon as the weather changes or the next press release comes out. Someone should make a video of all the lies Lou told, it would be longer than Gone With The Wind.

According to reports from DenverMike, Jeff S is not in the truck market to begin with. He is either in the fantasy Chinese truck market which does not exist or the SUV market. We haven't figured it out yet. He is enslaving himelf to an ideology which is anti-American and anti-pickup truck.

@Rambo Motard Goat Herder Association minion aka mechanic - why would I lie when the truth in much more effective?
