Snowplow Comparo Charts: Best We've Seen

Snowplow Truck Lineart II

With snowplow season just around the corner, we thought we'd pass along some of the best snowplow comparison charts we've seen to date.

The folks at Snowdogg Snowplows in Mentor, Ohio, have collected just about every spec and piece of data you can gather on their own snowplows and the other big players like Meyer, Boss, Fisher and Western

Whether you have a small SUV or medium-duty work truck, you can compare the exact plow size and configuration you'll need to get the job done. Naturally, the people at Snowdogg would like to sell you a plow, but there's no reason you can't use the internet or your own local plow dealer to shop for the best deals.

The key here is to make sure you don't have the wrong snowplow mated to your truck. Do your research. Make sure your truck's front end is equipped with the proper heavy-duty plow, spring, and/or cooling packages to minimize any potential safety issues. Every setup needs to be within the proper specs to keep your truck and plow parts safe. Although we believe in having a touch more capability than you probably need, make sure to get the opinion of a certified snowplow expert when you're shopping around.

For more tips on how to plow for fun or profit, each of the big snowplow manufacturers has its own tips and advice section online, and in some cases a pamphlet you can get by mail. We'd also suggest doing a little research on snow tires, winter driving and tire chains.

@sandman4x4

Thanks for the tip. I may consider it but i'm thinking of sellin the plow and buying a different one now. i got it on the cheap and i think maybe takin that money and buying one may be a better way to go. the plow is an 8' Western Pro Unimount with Ultramount conversion since its an 03 model plow which Western deems to be too heavy for the 02 ext. cab long bed with a diesel.

@hemiv8 Nothing funny about this as nobody was parked anywhere close to him thank God. He parked at the top of the lot away from everyone so his truck torched itself!!

@K, The truck and camper can be replaced. Who is going to replace these peoples two kids at 5 and 7? And this mans wife just to name a few of Fords switch fire victims. The fires start when the truck is turned off for hours.
Fire that killed boys spread from F150 truck

In a suit, Mr. Mohlis charged that a faulty cruise switch caused the fire, which killed his wife.
But a sporadic malfunction in the switch that sparked engine fires stumped engineers at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for two years.
In the handful of wrongful-death suits it faces, Ford denies that the switches caused the fires. With all the possible sources of a house fire, it is impossible to say the switch was the sole cause, Ford says.

@Lou, If you add all the investigations and actual recalls on Chrysler fires they are not even a drop in the bucket compared to the multiple millions of one of Ford switch fire recalls.
Ford really is number one. AT FIRE RECALLS!!!!!!!!!!

MORE FLAMES!

MORE FIRES!

MORE FORD FIRE RECALLS!

ALL THE INFO YOU POSTED NEEDED A HOT ENGINE TO CAUSE SOMETHING TO BURN. FORD BURNS HOURS AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF!!!! I WAS LUCKY MY FORD WAS RUNNING AT THE TIME AND NOT AT HOME IN THE GARAGE LIKE HUNDREDS OF FORD FIRES. BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE AND SOME KILLING PEOPLE INSIDE!!

@FlamboV8 - you keep pointing out the 10 million + Ford cruise control switch recall but the one Fiat SUV Pinto recall was around 6 million Jeep SUV's.
You add up all of Chrysler's recalls from the last 2 decades and they are approaching 10 million units.

If you are afraid of fires that rules out most Jeep SUV's, some Ram 1500's, a batch of Cummins Rams, and a batch of Chargers.
Those all have had fires.

Whether or not the fire comes from a "hot" engine or a "hot" switch - a fire is a fire. My neighbour's house almost burned down due to a "hot" ATV in his shed. He contacted Polaris and they said too bad so sad, good luck proving it was our fault.

If you want to blame anyone for companies avoiding the admission of culpability, blame lawyers. Legal advisors are the ones that tell Ford, Chrysler, GMC, Toyota etc. not to admit to anything. Add to that fact that frivolous law suites abound.

It is tragic that people loose their lives and I will never minimalize or downplay such sad events.

Everyone on this site is tired of your sanctimonious Ford fire obsession.

You need to seek counselling if you are still traumatized by loosing your UNINSURED Mustang.
Being a union employee - I am sure you have a great Employee Assistance Program.

Get some therapy and move on.

The only one you are hurting is yourself.

@FlamboV8 - you keep pointing out the 10 million + Ford cruise control switch recall but the one Fiat SUV Pinto recall was around 6 million Jeep SUV's.
NO RECALL!!!!!! READ IF YOU CAN LOU?

SO MUCH FOR YOUR OVERBLOWN ARGUMENT DIP $#!^!!!!

Fords are famous for faulty switch fires.
Total of 16 Million Ford Vehicles Recalled Due to Defective cruise control Switch Fire Hazard
Ford recalls 8.7 million vehicles Ignition switches linked to hundreds of steering wheel fires
Ford recalls 1.1 million pickups over fuel tank strap issue fire risk
2010 Ford Ranger Recalled for Potential Fire Hazard!!!!!
2012 Ford Edge Eco Boost recalled over engine fire risk
2013 Ford Escape recalled for third time, again for fire risk
Recall Alert: 2011 Ford F-Series Trucks

In the affected vehicles, an electrical short may develop in the body control module and cause a fire. The modules manage vehicle systems from vehicle stability to air conditioning. In this case, a common module is shared between the crossovers and trucks.

Ford says the faulty BCM was manufactured by Lear Corporation in Mexico. The problem was discovered after two F-150 pickups caught fire during manufacturing at Ford's Dearborn Assembly Plant in Michigan.

@FlamboV8 - investigation............ is that better than a recall?

"Fires related to rear-impact crashes in the Grand Cherokees may have caused at least 15 deaths and 46 injuries, the regulator said."

Chrysler is killing people too.

"Such upgrades may lead to recalls. Chrysler doesn’t know how many of the 5.1 million vehicles, some of which were made in the early 1990s, are still operating, said David Dillon, Chrysler senior manager for regulatory affairs. A recall of 5.1 million vehicles would be among the 10 largest in the U.S."

‘Modern-Day Pinto’
The Center for Auto Safety, a consumer advocacy group based in Washington, has urged Chrysler to better protect the vehicles’ fuel systems. In a Sept. 1, 2011, letter to Chrysler Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne, the group’s head, Clarence Ditlow, called the vehicles “a modern-day Pinto for soccer moms.”

"MODERN DAY PINTO FOR SOCCER MOMS"

OUCH.

How do you come back from that one?

Chrysler claims that their products are no worse than anyone else's but expertd disagree (PLEASE NOTE THE 2011 DATE)

They are denying any problem.

HOW IS THAT DIFFERENT THAN FORD WITH THEIR CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH?

"The regulator said it found the opposite, that Jeep Grand Cherokees were more likely to have fuel tanks breached with subsequent fires in rear-end crashes than were General Motors Co. (GM)’s Chevrolet Blazer, Ford’s Explorer or Toyota’s 4Runner."

If there is nothing wrong with those products, why did Chrysler redesign them?

"HTSA’s investigation includes model year 1993 to 2004 Grand Cherokees, model year 1993 to 2001 Cherokees, and 2002 to 2007 Liberty models. In 2005, Chrysler redesigned the vehicles, increasing the space between the front and rear axles and placing the fuel tanks there."

Get therapy.

Your posts are laughable at best and so are your attempts at rebuttals.

Get therapy and move on.

Lou,HOW IS THAT DIFFERENT THAN FORD WITH THEIR CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH? Lets see one you have to get into a rear end accident and one you have to park the vehicle. Is the air real thin in CANADA?

@Flambo - thank you for admitting that problems with Chrysler fires are no different than Ford fires.

We've made some real progress today.

Just admitting that you have a problem is the first step to healing yourself.

Great breakthrough.

We are all proud of you!

@Lou, You need help Lou, period. Thanks for answering my question. The air must be real thin where you are in Canada.
YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER BUT YOU CANT MAKE THEM DRINK IT. YOU ARE ONE DUMB S.O.B!!!

LOL You two are funny as hell!!

Hemi V8,

This is going to be a changing day in your life!

Hemi as i told you in an earlier reply the ford switch fire is a dead issue all the vehicles have been recalled it is up to the owners to bring their vehicles in to ford for the parts to be changed. the fire that killed the to boys the truck had been recall eligible for several years. The parents negalgence to take their truck into ford is what caused the death of their boys. Ford addmited that their was a problem and offered to fix it for free (thats what a recall was) people ignored fords advice and people died. Chrystler onn the other hand had a design flaw that resulted in people being killed through no fualt of their own. if you get rear ended the accident is not your fualt , to then have your vehicle explode just sucks. most people have insurence to replace valuble that are destroyed accidents happen a car fire could result from a varitey on non manufacure related factors as well. the guy whos rram burned down will probably buy another chrysler product again, but do you think that he will come on this sight and continusly post about how rams spontaniously compust and destroyed his camper? NO because most people realize that stuff happens and get over it.

Ford Recalls 2011 F-Series After Two Fires
Continuing its proud history of vehicle fires, Ford is recalling the 2011 F-Series and the Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX crossover after two 2011 Ford F-150s caught fire at the Dearborn Assembly Plant. Built Ford flammable? [Pickuptrucks.com and @DavidShepardson]
http://jalopnik.com/Ford-Fire-Recall/

@flambo - a gas tank rupturing in a car crash and igniting sounds pretty bad to me. 5.1 million bombs on wheels driving around North America. Maybe Jeep should change their name to Taliban Motor Company.

It is pathetic that you are trying to downplay Chrysler's problems.

It is unfortunate that every company has built products that have had problems.I'd say get off your sanctimonious high horse but you don't like Mustangs.

Lou, hemiv8, you two need to take a deep breath, and calm down! there is truth to both of your posts, so lets leave it at that, OK? I have the perfect solution to the Ford fire problem, any one who has a Ford, with the recall need to go out to their garage of driveway, and just take the postitive cable off the battery, I am going to put a marine bat. switch on mine, just to be safe, and then when I sell, or trade it in, I will have a clear conscience that nothing can go wrong, unless that is whom ever buys it, is to lazy to turn a simple switch off under the hood, the marine grade switch I bought cost me just over $40.00! and it can work with any # of batteries, safe and easy!

This is all just too, funny. An article on a snowplow for trucks has turned into a " my truck is beeter than yours" article in what?, 2 posts. Didn't take long. You could post up add for a Frickin' screwdriver here and it would turn into an arguement on who has a better fastener, GM does of couse, LOL. Why would anyone be so bent on defending his brand of truck with (mostly ) uneducated or thought out posts. Ya, think you all here had been part of the engineering process. If you buy something , it doesn't mean it is the best, maybe for you, but not the other guy. In the end it a chunk of steel and plastic (mostly plastic now LOL), they all will break, one isn't any superior than the other (O.K GM is ,where is the stir pot smiley guy). There is no such thing as the BEST truck the LL break and all have issues. Did you guys know that 90% of all Ford trucks bought at the dealerships are still on the road today, yes BUT eventually some will make it home i'm sure. O.K back to PUTC the only soap opera for men, errr kids?

@Lou-Maybe Hemi V-8 struck two pieces of flint together in his cave and that cause his 89 Mustang to burn. Not wise to start a fire too close to the gas tank. Hemi V-8 is guilty of an an incendiary action and his remarks are inflamatory. Maybe someone needs to get out the snow plow and plow his postings under.

couple day before the new gm reveal...after the 13 dec ford be the champion of the old pickup whit the oldest frame old suspension whit a new dash and new engine for now...but people drive a ford they have something in comment nobody be being you because you be last pickup on the file..you no what you never be in the front..only in you dream..lolll

@sandman4x4 - I am calm. Hard to tell from the unidimensional media that is a blog.

It would be much different if FlamboV8 was a crusader targeting ANY vehicle fire.

Hypocrisy at its finest when one ignores one's own favorite brands flaws and targets another brand.

That was the point I was trying to make with my posts about Chrysler/Fiat/Jeep/Dodge/Ram fires.

Has Flambo V8 made a post anywhere on PUTC's site that has been relevant, succinct, and absent of bias?

He has gone from his trolling with "anything Hemi" to "anything Ford on fire".

What next?

@Lou I know whats next!! He'll be talking about how if you take a dog chain and goat walking harness LOL!! just bare with me now! If you hook the goat to the front of a Ram truck tow hooks. It will do 10 times better offroad cause it have 4wd and four hoof Hemi power. It be class leading and a first 4wd four hoofed monster in all terrians!

GUTS

GLORY

HOOF

RAM!!!!!!!!

This comments section is messed up and its Mark Williams fault can we move on to another story like this one http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2012/11/2014-nissan-titan-coming-as-redesigned-truck.html and you missed this one http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2012/11/2014-toyota-tundra-rumored-for-chicago-auto-show-debut.html. If you had covered these stories the big 3 owners wouldn't be fighting each other as they would team up with the Titan guys to pick on the Tundra and then the big 3 owners will say they be glad for a new Titan although they have no intention of owning one as they don't consider it American. Also Hemi V8 will call both trucks a slur for the Japanese.

Oh yeah I almost forgot. It'll have anti goat poop slip tires too. Don't want to lose any traction if the goat has to poop while going over a rock or something. CLASS LEADING ANTI SLIP GOAT TURD TIRES!

@johnny doe - does goat poo catch fire?

@ Lou Maybe if the goat got feed super hot wings then just maybe they could. I guess we better call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and have them look into the idea LOL!!!!!!!!!

@Lou, He has gone from his trolling with "anything Hemi" to "anything Ford on fire". What next? Posted by: Lou | Nov 27, 2012 6:43:38 PM
THE CLASS LEADING 2013 RAM TORQUE FLIGHT 8 WITH 395 HORSE AND 410 TORQUE HEMI V8.

@Flambo - and I thought your next stupid focus would be upon the Edsel.

LOOKS LIKE LOU AND JOHNNY WILL BE EATING A LOT OF GOAT $#!^ EARLY NEXT YEAR. :)

@Flambo - you do dispense a massive amount of goat droppings, that is understandable since you are full of it.
