Recall Alert: 2010-12 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon

10Colorado

GM is recalling 118,800 model-year 2010-12 versions of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks due to problems with the trucks' hood latch system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The affected vehicles were manufactured from Nov. 9, 2009, through Aug. 28, 2012 (check your vehicle's build date on a sticker on the driver-side doorjamb) and could be missing a secondary hood latch. If the main hood latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners starting Jan. 17, 2013, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace any affected hoods for free. Owners can call Chevrolet 800-630-2438, GMC at 866-996-9463 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 for more info.

Comments

So many recalls lately

At least they are taking action on a pretty serious problem. Let thing you want is for the hood to fly open while your driving down the interstate causing you to go blind.

thats the only thing flying off g.m. lots.

Only took the illustrious GM 3 model years to figure out the secondary hood latch was missing?

They must've been too busy not paying any corporate taxes to notice.

Hmmmm...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38meceSgO90 Merry Christmas Ford and Ram girly girls HAHA!

@CHEVY SUCKS Ford must be to busy not paying federal taxs to notice all their vehicles light on fire!! Oh and that 6 billion they got for green cars that they failed their MPG'S ratting on LMAO! FORD THE BIGGEST HYPOCRITE COMPANY, AND FANBOYS AROUND!!

SCREW you hemi. Your day is is coming. Like they say, every dog has its day. When you are a sh@# eating dog like you it will be worse.

RAM!!

@hemi. Sorry I made such a bad comment towards you because now I remember that arguing with one FOOL just makes another, what was I thinking?

For years, when asked what I wanted for Christmas, I've been replying: peace on earth, good will toward men :-)

No one ever seems to recognize that this comes from the bible, Luke 2.14 to be precise!

Linus said it best in A Charlie Brown Christmas:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Merry Christmas!

Recalls happen to EVERY manufacturer, my Mercedes had 5 in the first year. Still a fine automobile. Next month it could be Ram ( they are still filtering the tie rod end recall on 2008- current HD trucks over 4 years later). After that it might be Ford, then toyota , then GM ect... as long as humans are manufacturing trucks, there will be recalls. NO need to start bashing a brand because it isn't the one you happen to have chosen. All brands are equally good ( or bad) as the next. Choose what you THINK is best and be happy, and respect the fact that your nieghbor or buddy has a different taste in trucks.

Can respect that snowman. Atleast were all driving trucks and not ending up in the ditch every where like the folks in their cars here in Edmonton. I like the folk who drives trucks, always in back of the parking lots and pulling cars out of the ditch. Somehow people driving cars in edmonton cant park or drive close to speed limit in the winter. I like the drivers of pickups they can drive confidently in winter. Cheers if you drive a pickup no matter what brsnd and merry Christmas

Well as posted before the Ram for 2012 was list as an unsafe truck. So all got their issues.

@Lou-Amen and thanks for the message. Being with family and sharing is the most important thing. Brand preference on trucks is the last thing one wants to hear about on Christmas. Thanks Lou and everyone have a Merry Christmas! And a Merry Christmas to Big Al and his mother.

@Hemi V-8--Thanks for the link to Larry the Cable Guy. I enjoyed those Christmas carols.

I was listening to a local automotive talk show and the host was interviewing a GM executive. He would not verify if GM will put a diesel in a 1/2 ton but said it will happen in the Colorado and Canyon models.
The diesels are coming!

@Southern IL man--That is good news for the many waiting for a half ton pickup with a diesel, especially those wanting a smaller truck with a diesel.

@Hemi V-8--Thanks for the link.

Anthony_D85 &TwitcherSnowHound --Sorry but that was not me Jeff S., this Hemi and Ram fanboyism is getting out of hand. These Ram fanboys are acting like juveniles and hurt the reputation of Ram.

A word of advice to people like HEmICraP and HEMI JEFF: get a life. It's people like you that abuse the purpose of an open forum like pickuptrucks.com, and turn readers away. HEmICraP I find your post offensive and ignorant. I drive a Ram and I am gay. But guess what? I know other gay people who drive the other brands of truck, so I guess that makes the truck you drive a "gay" truck too. HEMI JEFF: It's people like you that constantly flood florums the way you do that make the rest of us civilized people who own Ram's feel embarassed because of your fan boy etiquette.

We all have our preference of vehicle brands and it's great to hear from people on here about information related to trucks but things are getting out of control. Maybe it's time for the site moderator to clamp down on this.

To those who actually contribute something worthwhile, I along with many other readers thank you. For the spammers and fan boys: move out of your parents basements and find something else to do.

Dear Pickuptrucks.com could you please set up your comments box so that users are limited to maybe only 40 words or less? and how about putting filters for specific words (ram, guts, bla bla bla) too? I hate scrolling through all that nonsense I just read above.

Everyone has a recall..no problem..it is when they need to have one and don't, such as the toyota ones...they got fined for not doing what they are suppose to do.

More GM junk behaving like junk.

HemiCrap and HemiJeff: GFY

every thing has recalls. It could be of a faulty part or just not put to geather right. I used to work in a auto parts store and came up with a saying you have your monday trucks wensday trucks and friday trucks. The best is wensday because they not in a hury to finsh before the weekend and then they not getting over the weekend on monday.

@Supercrew 02: Too bad the idiot that wrote that "Ram most dangerous truck" crud didn't happen to know that the Ram was atleast the SAFEST truck in a head on. A whole lot safer then the current GM in that, and better then the current F-150 that went backwards in the head on, and to the dismay of hemi lol, the Tundra. While your 02 Supercrew is, uh, rather weak in that department! (head on) If you want to see a nasty truck crash test, just look at your trucks test video! Pretty weak! And I doubt your roof is any stronger then a Rams, since Ford beefed the roofs up in '09.

Lets see, Tundra tested a Double Cab when the rest tested Crew Cabs in side impact, otherwise, the side of the Tundra has no structural advantage on a Ram. The air bags on the back seat of the Ram didn't open completely, and they didn't have the side torso bag back in 09 that they added in February. They are needing a retest now that they added that. The current GM? It is rather weak in a wreck, bends like a tin can, kinda like, a...Nissan Titan!

Ram is getting busy with it, as you can see Chrysler does have it's share of top safety picks.

We will wait and see what the pickups do in the IIHS's new partial frontal or whatever they call it, the one where the new Camry and Prius bombed it, while the 2008 designed Dodge Avenger atleast got an acceptable. The Accord bested it, but what to expect, it should, it's all new design!

@Supercrew 02: Here is how your truck does in a head on! If this ever happens to you, you would probably wish you were in the 2009 and up Ram, because it doesn't fold like this work of art from Ford!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i5EmJBaGeQ&feature=player_detailpage

@Supercrew 02:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=G9roGsezZ1A

Now, which one would you rather be in?

I don't believe there is an IIHS video on the 2009 Ram, heck they don't even show pictures. Probably cause there is nothing bad to show in head on?

Not bad for "The Most dangerous truck" don't you think?

@Red:

Mabye there were a few too many, but I agree with TRX4 Tom. If you can't take a few GUTS GLORY RAM posts there is something wrong with you. A little GUTS and GLORY is good for you.

@Ron:

You are not gay. Homosexuality is a form of mental disease. There is nothing “gay” about it. That word has been hijacked by sodomites to help make the poison go down.

It's an undiagnosed and untreated illness. Thanks, American Psychiatric Association, for putting political correctness ahead of your patients' health.

http://behaviorismandmentalhealth.com/2011/10/08/homosexuality-the-mental-illness-that-went-away/

@TRX4 Tom:

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Testing an extended cab Ford in an offset front crash against a crew cab ram in a full frontal is ignorant. No matter how you spin it, ram is behind in overall crash safety. Probably quality also. You don't hold last place in American pickups forever like Dodge without a reason.

@ jeff s

I wrote hemi jeff. Thats the name under the post.

@Anthony_D85 --Thanks I just wanted to make sure that you and the other readers knew it was not me. These fanboys are using other names as well, like putting postings under Lou's name which I know he has not posted. Have a good day!

@2nd Tom: I agree it's not really an apples to apples test, but hey, not my fault Ford didn't crash test a crew cab, they instead tested a SUPER cab and that was a present Ram crew. Actually, the Ram weighed 1,045 pounds more. While that weight would help somebody in a wreck vs. another vehicle, (weight vs.weight) against an unmovable object, it goes against it. A single cab would have done better. Go watch the Tundra crash test, because it is so stiffly sprung, the back end flys in the air and not as much force is taken at the front end. So, if a Tundra had more weight in the back, and the back could not fly up in the air as easy, it would be worse on the front end.

No matter how YOU spin it, the RAM is ahead of Ford, Toyota, and way ahead of GM, on frontal crash tests. They might be overall behind mostly because of the the roof test, but my point was, the idiot didn't bother to notice they were well ahead on frontal impact testing. Go ahead, look at the numbers IIHS shows for ALL LARGE PICKUPS, you would see how some of them fold up. You can see how the Ford went backwards as compared to 2004-2008 in frontal testing, and how the Tundra steering wheel comes down and back at you in a frontal impact, how their A pillars hold up. You can even look at the Ridgline if you want a good laugh, and see how that suv holds up in a crash. A head on anyway, or side impact. It's strong point is it's roof.

The Ford and Tundra do better in roof testing possibly due to the less aero on their windshields, meaning the Ram A pillar has more a laid back look. More aero. The GMs have neither the aero or the strong roof! Don't get me started on the beer can Titan!

You say "probably quality also" Well, atleast they have improved alot and are continuing to. GM? Same same.....Toyota? Backsliding....Ford? Haven't they had the most recent recalls? Or Honda, or Toyota? Like Ford transmissions are perfect? Or the Ecoboost has already had issues in less then 2 years.

You better check on your 17 year old kids, make sure they they aren't riding their bikes in your driveway (appartment building parking lot?) without helments on! There is a place for helments, but some of you are so afraid to walk down a street!

@TRXTom - I've seen how little of an impact it takes to fracture a skull. I do agree however that many people tend to be overly paranoid about safety. We do seem to have extremes and as always there is a comfortable middle ground.
How did this thread turn into a Ram bashfest anyway?
If someone feels a certain brand is unsafe or substandard, the solution is simple - don't buy it.
The Colorado and Canyon both have been rated poorly for overall quality. I have 2 neighbours with them, both black crew cab 4x4's and they like them.

the powers that be have found all the missing hood latches, they were all in Chevysucks basement! him and HEmiCrap and HEMIJEFF were play pin the ram with the boi games when the police raided them!!!!

@Lou: but don't get me wrong, as far as people riding motorcycles, I am all for helments. I recently lost a friend that wore one of those novelty fake helments....good enough to keep a cop off your back, but unfortunitly, not worth a crud in a bad wreck. Not that a helment always will save you, but you stand a chance. I always thought the novelty helments were stupid, I hope others learn from it.

@TRX4 Tom - Sorry to hear about your friend. Those beanie helmets are no better than a baseball cap. I ran across a Harley rider once that had a little fall off his bike. He hit his head just below the line of the beanie. Let's put it this way, I think he is one of the trolls on this site - brain damaged and all that. I talked to a police officer that ran across a similar incident with a sport bike rider. The guy got nudged off his bike by a car and hit his head the same way. The car driver had to pick up the tab for the damage to his bike and a new 1,000 dollar helmet, but the rider was perfectly fine.
You can be wearing $4,000 worth of gear and if you do something stupid enough, nothing will save you.
Bicycles - I think everyone should wear a helmet.
I've seen too many young people occupying spots in extended care facilities due to stupid mistakes. It sucks to be 20 yrs old in an old folks home having someone feed you and wipe your ass.

@Lou; it was bad enough watching my 76 year old father in an old folks home, not to mention somebody that's in their 20s and most their life in front of them.

The cops used to wear the beanies I know. But they were real helments.

I do know when I was a teen I did some crazy $#!# on a bicycle, and I am not talking riding 5 mph down the road...I was pretty lucky.

They might fool a cop, but what good is it if you really need it?
