Quick Review: 2013 GMC Sierra Denali
Posted by Mark Williams | January 29, 2013
One of our newest writers (but also a long-time industry analyst) Aaron Bragman spent some time in one of the last current-gen GMC Sierra Denalis we're likely to drive before the new 2014 models get to us later this summer. Astute readers will note that no announcements were made about a new GMC Sierra Denali during the world debut of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, but we think it would be crazy not to continue the hugely popular option package.
We assume we'll hear more in the next few months about the next Sierra Denali 1500. For now, here's a quick look at the outgoing 2013 model.

It is about time someone posted a test of a no nonsense luxury level truck. Ford can cram their Queen Ranch and Platinum trucks. Nothing but pure useless money grabbing options.
Looks just like the Interior in my base model Impala company car.
Your right Puerto Rico Bob, this truck has nothing but pure useless money grabbing options.
Dear GM, go buy any top level FORD and copy what they have done with luxurious packages. It works for them and could work for you
Hey GMC remember your commercials making fun of Dodge for having a heated steering wheel. You Fail again GMC. GMC must get tired of being a third rate truck
Sharp truck! Wish mine looked that classy!
PR Bob, what are you talking about? They said in the article that this truck was $53,694.00 and there and "no factory spiffs are being offered on the Denali trim model". So you actually pay more for this GMC and you get fewer options.
Nice truck but "dated". If one is willing to wait 6 months why buy a 2013 Chevy or GM? Unless there are huge discounts that we know will come.
Relax lets remember these truck has a 6.2 Liter Engine with well over 400 HorsePower and a Six Speed Trans, way better powertrain than Ford or Dodge can ever dream about. And yes my friend's 2013 Dodge Ram is still leans to one side when breaking lol it is what it is!!!
AllAmerican, you can go buy a Ford Platinum with every option added, including the 6.2 engine, large nav screen, etc and pay full retail for the same money as this dated GMC (within $200).
LOLOLOL!!! GovtMoCo pile of DUNG. Where's my MONEY BACK FOR THIS?? NO Company NEEDS 2 Damn Truck Lines! You Tax Theives! We PAY FOR THIS! Ford, Toyota, Dodge, Nissan, NOBODY Has 2!! OBAMA Should be Ousted for taking OUR TAXMONEY to Support TWO UNNECESSARY LINES OF TRUCKS! Take his GovtMoCo Sissy Sierra BLINGMOBILE DENALI and Get Lost.
I wish that had been the Silverado bodystyle. They would have sold more of them. This last Silverado was just sad to look at.
The leather seats are nice. This interior is nicer than the current Silverado.
@moparMadness, I must of forgotten Dodge got bail out too and If I remember right both companys have paid the loans back so go have a Fiesta with your Mexican Building Friends starting with Diaz the Dodge Ram CEO lmao.
@Ford850, yeah you still dont get it pal its a Ford. No where close to a GM!!! Before everyone says oh looks Ford sells more, wait have you seen how many used Fords are sitting rusting on Used Car Dealers. Here on the West most illegals buy these rust buckets!!!!
Sales don't mean anyting in terms of how good a truck is. Marketing, availability, configurations available, loyalty all play a part in how well a truck sells. Bud Light is the best selling bear out thier, but I think most people know its not the best beer in terms of quality.
That truck looks pretty good. My boss Bob bought me at 2500HD Duramax/Allison with the LTZ package late last year. I couldn't be happier.
Not a bad looking truck for being around for so long. At least it doesn't look like a hooptie like the Ford Platinum does.
The Denali may survive, but GM will join the cowboy fetish pickup truck arms race with something like a "Rhinestone Cowboy Edition"... Anyways, I agree we're talking pure useless money grabbing trim levels as PR Bob calls them, but company/ranch owners want and demand the ultimate, highest level pickup to let their workers/clients/competitors and everyone else know exactly who's the boss. And all that useless gadgetry and pageantry are tax write-offs anyways.
This truck looks great! compared to the new ones! I luv' my 2012 RAM 1500 that Hemi reminds so much of my dads ol' 91' c-1500 w/ that iconic 350 v8 rumble sound there's nothing more satisfiying knowing you've got a real performer lol just ask all the scared off bums in my neighborhood that back off my tail when they hear that biotch roar like a nascar!!! tow/haul: on traction control: off hehe....
Wow, what a joke! They call this their Lux Truck. FAIL!
14.5 mpg is terrible. GM needs more fuel efficiency in their top of the line trucks. The savings of $8k on a $54k truck is only 14.8% off. That's not a big deal.
Made in Mexico, too, if that interests you.

Its hard to tell the front end from the back end, its so square, I first I thought I was looking at the back with some kind of chrome tailgate, but then I realized that was the grill.
I didn't know the GMC 1500 was still made in Mexico. I see the engine is made there too. I thought they announced they moved production back to the US a couple years ago.
@Ford850 Only crew cabs are made in Mexico.
Millions of mechanics want you all to buy Ford, it keeps them in work. Pull the heads to change the plugs, pull the body to work on the engine.
I really wish all the brand bashing would stop and just look and read the article, and then comment on the good or Bad.
Personally When I first read about a heated steering wheel I laughed, and thought it was stupid as is heated seats.
Now a good cooler, that I can promote.
Johnny Doe, thanks.
Awesome truck. Love the GM trucks, they are super reiliable and good looking. Not a fan of 1/2 tons but if i were to get one it would be a 2014 GMC fully loaded.
Something about the lines of the windows combines with the fender flares that make the crew cab version of this truck look like it's sagging in the middle.
Its true, it is the drop frame lol
It's a pile of crap GMC. What else needs to be said. I'll take a Ford, Dodge or Chevrolet any day. Not the GovtMoCo truck. What a redundant waste of metal. Only wasting our money to prop up old fart Buick dealers. Or should I say the failing Opel and their European operations.
Just a taxpayer funded Mexican Made truck. Pathetic. Make in in the USA with high US parts content or get lost GM"c". The least they could do is build the Chevy's in America. Yet those slimeballs don't even do that. Heartbeat Of America? Pftt.
Ford850 Only crew cabs are made in Mexico.
@Johnny, As if that makes it better. That's the truck model that sells the most. They take our money and then source their parts to China like the rims that say Made In China right on them, then they ship our jobs building TRUCKS of all things to Mexico. That company shopuld have burned. Sold Chevrolet off to someone good and been done with it. Screw GM.
There are only a few vehicles that I know of that have heated cloth seats. Should be a stand alone option. A heated steering wheel and heated seats should be standard equipment in Canadian trucks right from the base models up. It's -15F with a 25 MPH wind blowing from the NW. here in Central Alberta.

If Ford were to buy Chevy, Chevy trucks would be AWESOME!
ive got an 08 AWD and its a beast... Article is wrong though it says you can get a 5.3 in the Denali.. wrong... you can ONLY get the 6.2 in the Denali.. in awd or 2wd... thats it... One awesome truck...
@jbl... I own one and it was not made in Mexico... LOL you ford goofs are stupid. Do you have one??? prolly not.. you prolly dont even own a truck and drive around in a geo metro lsi convertible...LOL go get a life.
True class in the most reliable truck you can buy. Eat your hearts out Ford and Dodge boys. Next up is the 2014 trucks with more power then Ford or Dodge and the well known reliability and low cost of owning the best truck available to the public. Do yourselves a favor Ford and Dodge boys, buy a real truck and become a man.

@Jason, sorry pal, all GM and Chevrolet trucks with 4 doors are Made in Mexico.
@Greg, you'd be great at stand up comedy.
@ Frank, you do know that the Ford Super Duty 6.7l diesel trucks are built in mexico, and you must know that the entire Ram HD truck is built in Mexico, the GM HD trucks are built in USA ,Flint Michigan. You have a hate for GM, thats fine don't buy one, but slamming a truck built in Mexico is the same as slamming all trucks now LOL.
I wish that had been the Silverado bodystyle. They would have sold more of them. This last Silverado was just sad to look at.
@RonM, I absolutely agree! On all accounts.
but slamming a truck built in Mexico is the same as slamming all trucks now LOL.
@Snowman, I think all Ford trucks are built in the USA now. Toyota's as well. It does kind of suck that Chevrolet's aren't all built here however. I mean, it is a Chevy afterall. I always associated that with the Red, White and Blue. Sad really.
@B.Jensen Sad but true, Toyota truck have more America in them than the Ram trucks now. Ford 6.7L Scorpion is 100% Mexican built. I know what you mean ,The Chevy is the vision of Amrican iron, but global markets have changed everything. The entire GM 2500/3500 line up is built in America at least.

@Greg sliverado will be a solid pickup truck but not a bread winner! It's engine line is basically a sproosted up verison of the poorly designed GMT-800 vortec...with that said chevy has to market the 6.2 v8 like RAM markets Hemi because they can't come up with any better design at this point to compete in the 5.0 liter v8 segment! remember the 6.2 only produces 403hp under current GM vortec. RAM produces 395hp with a smaller displacement (5.7 liter) & FOrd actually has the technology to kick RAM in the ass if they took more influence from the mustang & put it into the 5.4 liter again. Ford would simply be unstopable in the 5.0 liter segment for sure & I'm a RAM owner myself.
@Snowman,
I didn't state anything about being built in Mexico.
I was responding to Johnny's post.
Sorry Frank, my bad.
@ Todd as previoulsy mentioned you ford guys are just stupid... My Truck an 08 Sierra Denail AWD which you would know is a crew cab becuase thats the only way you can get a Denali was assembled in Canada... So your Blanket uneducated statement that all crew cabs are assembled in Mexico is just plain false... so do some research next time before you start balbbing on here..
@Jason - there hasn't been any pickups made in Canada for a while. From 2010 onwards I don't think there are any.
All the car makers build stuff in Mexico. I bring up Hecho en Mexico usually as a rebuttal to the Buy American types who slag Toyota but drive a Dodge. I personally don't care who owns the company as long as it is a quality product.
Oshawa Truck Assembly was a General Motors Canada truck factory in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada that opened in 1965 and closed in 2009.
