Ram 1500 Wins 2013 Texas Truck Rodeo's Top Award

Forty-one members of the Texas Auto Writers Association met at the annual Texas Truck Rodeo to choose their favorite pickup trucks once again at the famous Knibbe Ranch outside of San Antonio. Although there are 23 different vehicle categories, nine of them are awarded to a pickup truck.

This year at the 23rd annual event, the winner of the coveted Truck of Texas award went to the 2014 Ram 1500 with the new 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel V-6. This is the third time in four years the Ram 1500 has won the top prize (the Ford F-150 or F-250 has won it the seven times before that). In the eight remaining pickup competitions, a Ram vehicle won all but one. Surprisingly, the significantly revised — inside and out, and with a completely new line of engines — 2014 Chevy Silverado did not win a single award.

Additionally, TAWA members awarded Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. their Distinguished Service Award for leadership for being the first and only truck maker to implement the Society of Automotive Engineers' J-2807 towing standards into its full lineup of pickups and SUVs (more than three years ago) while the rest of the industry drags its feet. We congratulate and appreciate Toyota for their early adoption as well, especially since it is ultimately intended to benefit all truck buyers who want to tow safely.

I like the Ram but all the tag attached with it ( redneck ) and the association that come with it like poor man or not so bright man still bug me. Everytime you see a stupid guy doing speeding in school zone or an ugly butt truck with flame paint its a RAM.

Key word is "Texas". The state that gives us the rednecks in DC shutting the country down gives out awards equal to the Razzies.

BTW, The Ram is 5 times more Fix Overhaul Repair Daily than the Fords ever where. Rams are favorites of those who are under achievers.

@TRX 4 Tom :

You are mistaken. Or maybe i should say you are half right. While Jeep Grand Cherokee diesels are being buildt at JNAP. NONE have made it through inspection to paying customers. The only ones you see are those that Jeep loaned to automotive writers, and at auto shows. They can do that easily because loaners/demo cars aren't 'licensed', just dealer plates. I can provide you with the link if you feel like you'd like to spend a few days of your life reading about a 'car' and an engine. There are thousands of pages. Just the 'new features' blog has over 12000 pages and well over a million entries. These guys are jeep crazy!
So you can try the last page here. It's current.
I can assure you that I'm up to speed. Unfortunatly the 3.0l diesel engine is not. You can even see vicariously the JNAP plant. As a few of our guys flew in and took the tour this last Sunday.

Pics; http://www.jeepgarage.org/f73/jnap-plant-tour-66715.html

The short version; The 3.0l diesel will not be available in the ram 1500 anytime soon. Not this year. Maybe not till 4th quarter of 2014 as a 2015 model.

Waiting to see if the 13 year old 5.0l cummins actually makes it into the titan.

Overpromising and underdelivering. treating customers like mushrooms. Classic.

Awards do not build good pickups. Number of recalls and how long a pickup will last without major repairs decides if it is a good pickup. In that case Ram does not even come close!

Lou: the point was, Ty is alot like you; he says Jeep diesels aint out yet when in fact they are, he's like you with your "can't find a 8 speed hemi" what, as late as July or so you were bitching? Cause your lazy ass couldn't find one? When in fact, they were out in April. 2nd quarter, as we were told they would be out. Then you will probably say "Not in (BFE) BC" While you do that, maybe you can look at your Canadian sales as you seem to to think and only talk about US sales....Keep in mind, when the they get the old 2013 GMs gone, and their prize hikes go into affect on the new models, sales are gonna drop. Maybe a good chance for you to offload your 5.4, so you need not worry about spark plugs, and since you like the GMs, they will give you a lowrider one with a big MSRP, and a huge discount, and resale will suck.

If you re-read what I said, you would see I did in fact say Ram ALMOST out sells those two GM twin want to be's. At the end of the year, they will be outsold by Ram.

I aint butt hurt hurt at all, maybe you are cause GM has barely won any contests, lets see, the Car and Driver event, yes, where they sent the 3.21 geared Ram...But hey it did get as much mileage as the Chevy....they liked the Chevy better, even tho the steering wheel isn't centered...After all, it was CAR AND DRIVER...lol!

Anyway, enough smalltalk. You folks will be bitter and butthurt when Ram Ecodiesel or a HD takes truck of the year, again. Leaving GM.....falling...

@TRX-Tom - if you ain't butt hurt, something is got you all fired up. Jock itch perhaps.

When I said I couldn't find any - perhaps there weren't many available.

It is like those Cherokee's - there are 19,000 of them sitting on a lot somewhere waiting for a transmission repair. I guess they are easy to find since they don't run.
BUT they aren't available.

The VM Motori 3.0 AKA Ecodiesel ain't around either. They are stacking up in Italy since they don't meet USA emission standards.

That is supposed to be fixed with a re-flash too. Kinda like that instrument panel bulb recall and those Cherokee transmissions.

Seems to be a lot of software problems at Chrysler/Jeep/Ram/Fiat.

AWSOME JOB RAM! It makes my day to see what kind of B.S.
bow tie girls can come up with for why chevy has failed again.
Has for a truck lasting i have owned 4 ram trucks not one of them ever let me down. And I use my truck as a truck. hauling
fire wood, hay, tractors, plowing snow and etc. they have all hit 200k plus. Oh nice nice job ford on the Raptor.
