Spied: 2015 Ford F-150 Makes More Appearances
Photos by KGP Photography
As we get closer to the debut of the next-generation 2015 Ford F-150, we're hearing about and seeing more test units in public. Clearly there will be three distinct cab configurations, but everyone is guessing about what materials the truck incorporates and how much it will look like the Ford Atlas concept.
At this point, all we know for sure is that Ford has spent plenty of money on full-body camouflage for each of the test trucks that make it outside the gates of proving ground test facilities. Here's what our spies just sent to us:
Cutting Through the Camo
"Ford has done an admirable job keeping prototypes for the 2015 F-150 heavily cloaked in camouflage, leaving even the smallest details covered in some form of marine vinyl. Today, however, we spotted the first meaningful chink in the armor, revealing the F-150's headlight design in a modestly undisguised form. While there's still a minor bit of black mesh covering the camo's headlight opening, the light and our lens thoroughly penetrates the mesh and reveals a headlight that looks far more adventurous than those found on GM's latest Silverado or Sierra."
Atlas Cues Revealed
"Just as we see on the Atlas concept, the production F-150 shows a trim piece that cuts into the headlight, nearly bisecting it into upper and lower sections. The shape of the headlight, its interaction with the front fender, and its interplay with the grille shape looks to be a carbon copy between the Atlas concept and the production-spec prototype caught on the streets of Dearborn [Mich.]. The only difference seems to be the headlight internals, which have the reflectors and lighting elements necessary for a volume-production product — instead of something designed primarily for auto show flash.
"After this look at the F-150's headlight, and its telltale Atlas-inspired designs flourish, we now have our first solid proof that the concept truck truly does foreshadow a key element of the new F-series' front fascia. Considering that the headlight and grille makeup the bulk of a car's character and identity, it now seems safe to say that the rest of the F-150 will similarly follow the lead of the Atlas concept."
Best Look at the 2015 Grille
"Another F-150 prototype gave us our best look yet at new truck's grille. It's still covered by some camouflage, but we're getting our first look at a heavily chromed grille. The placement and size of the Ford oval is also revealed. For those who believe that Ford's Atlas concept was a strong design direction for the next F-150, everything seems to be falling into place very nicely."
Comments
The side mirrors look really tiny.
The hood looks shorter, but the rest of the truck looks basically the same, You can tell it will still have the drop down front windows since the mirrors are lower on the door then the glass/como, and it still has the high square bed.
Is it just me or does that grill seem to have the Ram Crosshair?
Looks like the A Piller handle on the drivers side is baaaack.
And those mirros are at least as big as the current units.
I'm guessing we will see the roof rack from the Atlas or a version of it, their is a decent amount of padding on the roof to cover something up.
The decision by Ford to unify the looks and style of the various F series vehicles is very clever.
However, if Ford is hoping to excite folks with these sneak peeks, showing a long WB Reg Cab is an odd way to do it. It is the 4 wheeled equivalent of kissing your sister.
This TURD looks very much like the CURRENT TRUCK!!! I love it how the FORD GIRLY GIRLS WHINE AND CRY about how much the 2014 Silverado looks like the 2013 Silverado, but if you ask them about this new truck, THEY WILL SAY IT IS A TOTAL REDESIGN AND LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE PRESENT TRUCK. Typical Ford GIRLY GIRL FANBOI CRAP.
The new GM's do not share one peice of sheet metal with the old trucks. That can't be said about Ford you can take the front doors off a 2004 F-150 supercab and they will mount right on a 2014 and you wouldn't know the differance.
Loooks like the current truck with a super duty grill and headlights. Same old Ford.
Looks great and even better than the Atlas. I can't wait til Detroit in January.
While there are a lot of profile similarities between the current F-150 and the the test vehicle shown, and even the Atlas and current F-150 the constant refining of something that is good instead of reinventing the wheel is admirable. Taking a really good platform and getting every ounce of potential out of it makes so much sense.
I can't really tell a 2003 Dodge from a 2014 on the road, they have done the same thing. They've not reinvented the wheel they took something good and have been refining it and have a pretty good truck.
GM, needed to reinvent the wheel, there was nothing good from the GMT 900's to build from, I had one and it felt old from day one when I bought it with 30 miles on it. The GMT 900's were conceived during a time when GM was going broke and every possible corner was cut in their development. The new truck looks like a bunch of borrowed Ford and Ram designs in the inside mixed with a terrible outside profile, I blame the square wheel wells for this odd look. Its neither muscular or pretty. I think the new GM trucks are step in the right direction but not one thing about them is cutting edge or compelling. Maybe at the mid life refresh they will have something amazing.
At this stage I don't really consider the Tundra a player anymore. Its a very old design that got some new make up this year and a badly needed dash revision. They, like Ford and Ram have a very good platform to innovate from and they need to do so.
The wildcard will be the new Titan, will it be a game changer much improved vehicle or will it even be noticed? Only time will tell.
Does anyone have an info if Ford will keep a standard bed, cab, in the lineup, haven't seen any spy photoes of one? Btw I hope they do because the new Silverado you can still get one in this configuration.
Some of the comments make me laugh. It just proves what I always say that attitude is 100% perception, and people will look for things to fit their predetermined mindset. If you were a Chevy or Ram guy that has a negative perception towards Ford before even opening this article then you are going to look for things not to like about the pictures above to fit what you want the outcome to be. I can garantee if the same pictures were posted put the article was about a Chevy, Ram, or Toyota then some of the comments would completely different since they will finding reasons to like the truck. It is the totally opposite if you like Ford. It is funny that just the name brand of something has that much of an effect on ones outlook on something. Of course this mainly applies to the fan boys and thank goodness for the rest of us that what they say doesn't even hold a grain of weight in the real world. Then again, neither does what I say.
@MichiganBob
SHUT UP you are about a bright as 25 watt light bulb in a 100 watt area! Your comments have no intelligence or fact behind them. All we hear from you is your stupid GM propaganda. GM fuel economy this and GM that. Who cares? Your stupid 3rd grade opinion will not discourage people from buying this truck! Build crap and screw the public for decades is what led to their downfall. Obviously they haven't learned their lesson because they still build total junk! Stop slamming Ford for building something they are an expert on. Why don'y you and your troll buddies go an post on a GM thread somewhere! If you actually READ the article and LOOK at the pictures you would see that it is in camoflauge.
Good grief. Look at that horrid looking pile of garbage with its low slung frame and paper thin sheetmetal. It would get hung up if it were trying to traverse a book of matches. I am buying a RAM the next go around!
Here we go with the copycat 2 year old sh&^ again! Look I have the intelligence of a turd typical Dodge owner

LMAO!! If Ford was such an expert as you say than WHY DID THEY NEED BILLIONS IN BAILOUT BUCKS FROM BANKS THAT WERE BAILED OUT BY THE GOV'T AS WELL AS BILLIONS FROM THE FEDS FOR OTHER NEEDS??!! You are about AS BRIGHT AS A BURNED OUT HEADLIGHT in an '85 Tempo, which was ANOTHER TURD PRODUCED BY YOUR ILLUSTIROUS CAR MAKER!! Now go back to TROLLING with all of your other FORD CRONIES!!!
Meet the new f150 same as the old 2004 f150. Wonder if Ford will fix the lower a arms so if you go offroad you're tire won't flop around and wear you're tires out LMAO!

go 6.50 into the video and see how cheap ford builds their trucks
Michigan Bob for PRESIDENT!!!
Look at this junk, Ford needs drop kick in the teeth. I am tired of looking at 2004 ford trucks its 2014 change the look already. I guess ford is to dumb to figure how to make new looking truck. Ford has lost it's way.
@MichiganBob they weren't bailed out! Why is Ford on track to be number 1 auto manufacturer? You must be thinking of your friends at Government Motors that we are still on the hook for! You are a idiot! By the way, how many times do I have to flush before you go away??
I'll buy a new Ram or GM truck. I'm tired of driving in something that feels and looks like a 2004 Ford. Grow some balls and change you're trucks Ford.
God, these comments are so ridiculous, every story on this site becomes a bash fest of fanboys crying about what some other fanboy said.
Fordtrucks1 Ford will never be a number 1 auto manufacturer. Well maybe if they find more idiots like you that will buy that junk no matter what.
As for me I will more to Ram I am tired of the 2004 look.
guts
glory
ram
Think I'll wait to make judgement after the camo comes off & read a road test or two first.
"Considering that the headlight and grille makeup the bulk of a car's character and identity, it now seems safe to say that the rest of the F-150 will similarly follow the lead of the Atlas concept."
Ford change more than the headlights and front fascia? Fat chance of that happening. Ford never changes more than the front fascia, what makes you think they would start now. We've been waiting for an all new super duty for how many years now? 15, or close to it. Frame, cab, and bed never seem to get updated, yet they claim all new every few years. uh huh Seriously Ford, put a new frame under your trucks and I'll consider one.
A bunch of girly men getting their panites in a wad means Ford has a winner.
"You are about AS BRIGHT AS A BURNED OUT HEADLIGHT in an '85 Tempo."
Wow, what a stupid troll. But hey, they seem to be fixated of Ford.
LMFAO!
Frank get in your Ford Tempo and F yourself

I sort of like that cloth draped look. That should become an option.
People are making comments even before they can see any detail, get real people. You have no idea how close it will resemble the current truck. Not to mention it is getting harder and harder to make the trucks look a whole lot different, it is a truck with a bed and a cab. Wildly different looks won't be coming much anymore.
The headlights, people thought the indention was so ugly on the Suburban/Tahoe but it looks good on the Ford? Hmm, sounds like some people just try and bash the ther brands.
Gonna be interesting to see what they bring, will be good to see it uncovered.
BTW, Michigan Bob, stop making the GM people like me look bad. I was born in Michigan and you are disgracing the GM people. Not to mention you sound just like MoparIdiot and his large text 4 year old ramblings. Grow up and contribute something, can you handle that?
Ford still dosnt have the forward hinged rear doors on the extended cab. That is stupid. Toyota has it and that's what I am goimg to buy a 2014 toyoya tundra that's a truck not a girly f150
That's nice, but I am much more interested in the next-gen Super Duty.
I guess some people will only be happy till one of the three build a pickup with the box in the front and the cab in the back. Maybe then they will be different enough. I mean what do people think they are going to do... Cab and a box with 4 wheels. Of course they are all going to look about the same year after year.
So this is the aluminum-bodied truck reported before?
I am another stupid TROLL!

Tell me about it Frank. Are you just now figuring that out? We've known that for quite some time now.
Looks like we will be looking at the same ugly f150 for another ten years. Ford should hire some monkeys at least they have more creativity. The f150 is hands down the ugliest truck on the road and has been since 1996.
It looks as unreliable as the 2014 150. But being new, maybe Ford will move to 26th place for reliability with the new pickup. I wonder if Ford will match GM and Ram's warranty with the new pickup, but I doubt it because of the poor reliability record for Ford.
Love reading all of this hateful rhetoric put out by some fan boys. Coming out and spewing their usual rodomontade about how bad Ford is. It seems like that they are trying to make up for their own trucks short comings by bashing a truck that hasn't even been spotted uncovered yet.
I guess the F-series is junk thats the only reason it would be the #1 selling "VEHICLE" for how many years????
Even if you do or don't like Ford they did it the right way, what I mean is while General Motors & Chrysler got a bailout by the Feds Ford sold off everything meaning Jaguar , Aston Martin, Volvo, Land Rover & a large portion of Mazda so I would say give credit where it's due. Btw Italian car company controls Chrysler now.
Wonder if ford will finally build a truck that won't light on fire, will have a engine worth a damn, fix the cheap front ends, transfer cases, and the ugly looks!

Thank you for your opinion Tyler, you are entitled to it. Do I CARE WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY ABOUT ME? NO!!! Just in case you haven't NOTICED, nearly all of the FORD GIRLY GIRLS bash you for your PRO-GM opinions, but heaven forbid anyone should do the same to them. I just say EFFFF all of them and say whatever is on my mind. If they don't like it tough ####!!!
let it be written....let it be DONE!!!
