Recall Alert: 2013 Ram 1500
By Matt Schmitz
Vehicles Affected: Chrysler is voluntarily recalling certain model-year 2013 Ram 1500 pickup trucks equipped with four-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic transmission and a V-6 engine.
The Problem: Output shafts installed in some pickups were shaped using a two-stage forging method employed during early production; the resulting components may be subject to fracture in rare circumstances, according to Chrysler. The automaker said the forging process has been replaced by a single-stage method and that it is unaware of any associated injuries or accidents.
The Fix: Owners will be notified of the recall and dealers will inspect and test the transmission output shafts and, if necessary, replace the transmission assemblies for free. The notification schedule is not yet specified.
What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Chrysler at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov for more info.

For all the doubters, TT will be doing a long term test on the Ram. It's tests like these that do the real talking and everyone can see how reliable the Ram is. Regardless of what all kids post on here, the recalls are a good thing not a bad thing. All to often I have owned other brands of vehicles that had problems that should of been recalls but were never recalled. If I was lucky, there would be a TSB for the specific issue I was having and I would have to pay for it at my own expense. Kudos to Chrysler and Ram for having a transparent and honest process for addressing vehicle defects. Ford and GM should take note of how well Ram is addressing problems.

Some cretin has begun using my ID, which is really a shame. My fellow commenters on this site have become accustomed to my witty repostes and brilliant analysis. Unfortunately, the site is overrun by a considerable number of imposters and @ssholes.
As a result, I'm moving on. You won't have Papa Jim to read about anymore, except for the idiot who's been using my ID for the past few days.
Mfg's need to step up their quality control IF applies as I don't directly blame a "vendor" but the sample part inspects that should be catching problems. Yes sometimes parts are just a bad design with failures waiting to happen. So in the end I always blame mfg's NOT supplier as mfg owns the final process.
That same trans has been in use in the 300, Charger, Durango and Grand cherokee. I wonder if the Ram 1500 units were the 1st ones built in house.
(Ford and GM should take note of how well Ram is addressing problems.) : HEMI MONSTER
More like Ram should take note of how Ford and GM put their trucks together right the first time!

Every manufacturer has recalls, whether it be a truck, snowmobile, ATV, etc. It's a SAFETY reason that these recalls happen. If it weren't for the recalls, we'd all be paying out of our own pockets. So quit bashing Ram for these recalls. Most of the recalls I see are what I believe to be the fault of the material supplier not making the parts to correct specs. I have a 2005 Ram 1500 4x4 and I don't remember ever having a recall on my truck. This is the best truck I ever owned. The Hemi powered engine is AWESOME.
Lynn is off her rocker. It's a well documented and agreed upon fact that the Ram is the best looking truck on the road, inside and out. And it damn near won the crown in PUTC testing also.

were are the moderators at?
Mark Williams. You must consider turning off the comment section on recall articles.
It's going to take awile to clean up the mess Fiat-Ram made with the 2013's.

Another recall?..but I thought they had won all these awards.... still in 3rd place in truck sales. Still junk. What difference does it make if you have a diesel motor or 390 horsepower if the rest of the drive train falls apart or the front end needs replacing every 6 months. Worthless Italian garbage.
I hope Ram improves it's production and reliability . Love to buy a Ram , but too many recalls and problems .
@PapaJim - get a typepad account. it is easy to set up and free.
I do agree that the trolls and copycat posters are a problem.
THIS SITE NEEDS A SECURE LOG IN PROCESS.
As a 2013 Ford F-150 owner I have to agree the Ram truck is a much better looking truck than the Ford. I wanted a Ram but nobody would give me a deal on the price. I figure since the Ram sells good in my area the dealers can sell them at full sticker price.
Guys, My F150 just broke down on the highway. I'm trading my Ford in on a Ram first thing tomorrow morning. I have seen the light!

Good advice.
@K5
That's what I've been saying for a while. I don't think there is any denying the Ram is a nice looking truck, but the build quality just isn't up to par with Ford or GM. That's the reason they are still in 3rd place.
I swear this Ram responders aren't of legal age to drive. Ram issues recalls..... voluntary after they were presented with evidence from the safety administration. Otherwise they would be forced to which would cost them more in legal fee's.
I thought my 2009 Ram was the best looking truck on the road....then I realized no, it is the best looking truck in the service department of my dealership. My two previous rams experienced the same frequent trips to the dealership.... I know drive a FORD and couldn't be happier. Best move I have ever made.
I don't know what RAM is doing but these quality issues were enough for me to never buy one of their products again. I know several people who own Rams that are pissed.... Never buy a Ram with a chrome bumper ..it will rust in the first year and they turn their collect backs on customers..... wait until you get that first brake job done and the problems start...replacement rotors from the dealer warped.... this happens after they turn your rotors and you brakes squeal worse then a rail car. electrical problems and dealers tell you must be a bad bulb..... dozens of bulbs bought from their parts counter and every other supplier of bulbs..... Good Grief .
Ram owner know exactly what I'm talking about and Ram will be in real trouble when loyal customers like myself have decided I do not need this hassle as their are better options to drop $57,000 on with less headaches and better customer appreciation.

You trolls realize you aren't helping RAM' case any, right?
I think the solution here would be to just stop production, recall the truck all together and sell the ram rights to a company (either GM, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, even Honda) that can build them right the FIRST time. Obviously fiat can't build trucks.
ol Mark is lightning fast at reporting Ram recalls, no mention of the newest Super Duty recall, where Ford just recalled the ones in ambulance duty, and snubbed anybody else.
Atleast it's not like the newest Ford Escape, 7 recalls for underhood fires. The last one says cylinder heads may crack and leak oil, potentialy leaking oil that starts the fire.
So in that case, they aren't so worried about the cracked head, just the fire!
Tom: What part of PickupTrucks.com is for pickup truck recalls do you not unserstand?
Same 8 speed transmission in the "truck of the year." This is a big one! It's going to take Fiat-Ram years to get this truck right. I've heard some people say wait 3-4 years after a Ram refresh before you buy. I thought they were joking. I'm now starting to believe them.
