Recall Alert: 2013 Ram 1500

Blue Ram Road

By Matt Schmitz

Vehicles Affected: Chrysler is voluntarily recalling certain model-year 2013 Ram 1500 pickup trucks equipped with four-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic transmission and a V-6 engine.

The Problem: Output shafts installed in some pickups were shaped using a two-stage forging method employed during early production; the resulting components may be subject to fracture in rare circumstances, according to Chrysler. The automaker said the forging process has been replaced by a single-stage method and that it is unaware of any associated injuries or accidents.

The Fix: Owners will be notified of the recall and dealers will inspect and test the transmission output shafts and, if necessary, replace the transmission assemblies for free. The notification schedule is not yet specified.

What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Chrysler at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to for more info.

Okay...I'll try:

(...How'd I do?)

This is my first time posting here, i read everything but never posted. I'm a Ram fan, but I'm really getting tired of reading the constant "GUTS! GLORY! RAM!" whether it be for or against the Ram brand. A dedicated log-in system as well as IP address bans could stop most of this. I for one would gladly volunteer time out of my day to help moderate the comments section. Now I know you can get around IP bans but it would certainly slow them down, and maybe soon they'd get tired of trolling(i know, not likely, but we can hope). Anyways that's my rant for the evening. Guts!....just

@Jason H. - poorly, you only pissed off 1 Ram guy. LOL

Having lots of recalls is good because unlike the other guys it means we are FIXING stuff and making it better!

I think my next truck will be a Ford.

thats what u get when you build most of the truck in mexico

We have been Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep owners all our driving lives & I have to say I love our American made Mopar vehicles. However I did find one recall that should have been made by them that never was and I didn't think much about it, like most, until it affected us. Dodge trucks have a problem that cause their oil pumps to go out suddenly with no warning whatsoever & by the time you realize something is wrong, you need a new engine. It literally happens that fast. has something to do with a filter or screen just beyond the pump that causes it to go bad. Now I'd say it was just our truck but I know 5 different dodge truck owners this has happened to. different years, different styles of truck, different sized trucks all together. this can't be coincidence. our truck brand new came with a 7yr/100k mile warranty. At 107K miles this happened & we now have to pay $6K for a new engine. we never even got a check engine light warning or gauge warning when it happened. We feel very betrayed by Chrysler but know there is nothing we can do. these trucks can, should & normally do last for 200-300 thousand miles before we get rid of them. That's why we have always bought their products. Beside the fact they are usually the best looking vehicle on the road. However, this may give me pause before making my next purchase, I have to be honest. That is unless they are willing to help make good on this. They really should look into the problem. I'm sure there are more than just the 5 of us out there. We don't even drive dirt roads, haul heavy things or any of the stuff most people use big trucks for. Ours is mostly for convenience when a truck is needed for various tasks. Anyone who might know who we can contact at Chrysler to talk to about this, please send us a reply. Thanks.

This is the 1st & last time I will purchase a chrysler product again. It is bad enough that it is impossible to get the mileage rating stated but when you have problems with the 8 speed transmission that bounces all over the place & gears that shift with a thud you know there is a problem even after taking it in for service for the fourth time.My 2014 6 cylinder 8 speed transmission 1500 Ram has less than 3000 miles on it & I have experienced the transmission problem from the 1st day I picked it up."Motor Trend Truck of the Year" Thats a Joke!I blame govt for failure to come down on these unscrupulous manufacturers. Are they in bed together?

I have a new 13 ram it a very nice truck, I drove this truck 3800 kms on trip aver gas miles was 10.5 liters per 100kms that city and highway driving speed aver 80kms total . trip with 1500 -8 speed hemi beat that formo and chev .

I know why the ford guys don't like Ram don't they have a truck called echoburst , or echoo bust i know i got rid of 6 off ford junk, and went with the best, so eecco burrsrt. LONG LIVE THE RAM. GET WITH IT GUYS
