Recall Alert: 2015 Chevy Silverado HD, 2015 GMC Sierra HD

2015-Silverado-2500HD front II

Vehicles Affected: GM is recalling almost 60 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 Heavy Duty and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD pickup trucks equipped with the heavy-duty alternator option.

The Problem: A retention clip holding the fuse block to the body of the truck can come lose. If the block is allowed to rattle around, it can potentially cause a short or throw sparks, resulting in a possible fire.

The Fix: GM dealers will inspect the part and fuse block and make sure it does not loosen or move out of position.

What Owners Should Do: Chevrolet and GMC owners can call 866-694-6546 or 866-790-5700 for more information.

I don't see how 60 trucks is worth writing an article about, but this isn't my website. Although I do wish Mark was more involved in the blogs like Mike was.

Hey look at the bright side, you might actually be able to have a key chain of any size with this POS....it's a step in the right direction (I think)!?

Wow 15million plus vehicles recalled . It's not good for for Gm . They should have the strictest quality contral in place by now ! They cannot afford to keep getting recalls even minor ones like this .
My next truck will not be a Gm vehicle , I am so done with this company .

I feel bad for GM since this is such a trivial recall, yet it just adds to the ever growing almost never ending list. Maybe they want to flood the market with every possible recall so when a serious one does show up, it will be dismissed like the boy that cried wolf? This is nothing and probably represents a 1 hour run. Next time GM, just quietly mail out the almost 60 letters and be done.

Well from reading the comments, it looks like people are demonstrating the usual level of intelligence found here on PUTC.

I will attempt to actually discuss the recall. Obviously, 60 trucks is not a lot, hardly worth mentioning. It seems though that I have been hearing about GM having a number of "small" recalls involving only 100's of vehicles. What this tells me is that GM's engineering is not a fault, but probably someone on the assembly line who wasn't doing their job. In the old days the same kind of stuff happened due to workers drinking on the job. Basically it's a problem due to assembly, so it's not a design flaw.

Given the amount of GM recalls lately, even the small recalls will be blown out of proportion. Here is what I think GM needs to move forward: 1) Rid the company of all traces of the "old" GM and its management culture. 2) Empower employees to speak out when they know something isn't right, especially regarding possible defects 3) Create a better process for assembly line workers to follow. Such a process needs to catch mistakes early on and quickly (workers are only human).

There hav been two smaller recalls, but most of them have been larger numbers.

This is the second recall to affect GM’s 2015 HD model pickups and the 7th overall recall for its pickups dating back to the release of the 2014 Silverado and Sierra half-ton models which were all new. So only 2 out of the 7 were small and 5 were big.

Also each of GM’s three truck recalls previous to this one centered around fire risks with larger recalls coming in January and March and October and a smaller one issued just a few weeks ago. Again, 2 smaller, 5 larger recalls.

@Don
I can't even keep up with the GM recalls. Thanks for sharing though. I know that GM has had small recalls with other vehicles, so that may be what I was thinking of.

@HEMI MONSTER - very true. Small recalls like this show the QC process at work.

On a different note, my local dealer has 2 new Suburban's and a Tahoe on the lot.

Good looking SUV's.

Anyone remember Ford recalling over 14 million cars for defective cruise control? Toyota at 9 million for the floor mat getting in the way?

Its sad but just be glad Boeing and Airbus are doing a better job then auto manufactures.

@Peter - Ford and Toyota recalls were big because of shared components.
Ford recall - The Texas Instruments switch was used in multiple vehicles = big recall total.

Toyota - thee was the floor mat and the sticky gas pedal made by CTS. The CTS pedal was used in 1/2 of their vehicles = big recall total.

GM - it has been multiple issues. The ignition switch was not used in every recalled vehicle.
Incompetence = big recall total.

Who cares about recalls? I don't.

The real issue is Ford vs GM. GM got their new trucks out first and is increasng profits and Ford's alumninum tin foil trucks won't be out until late this year into next year.

Yep, Chevy finishes their new trucks first and WINS AGAIN!

I bet those ford girly men get sick and tired of finishing behind Chevy! Chevy Rules and the ford girly men drools!!! Ford, we give you the girly man step . GM we give you class leading trucks that get the job done and class leading fuel economy. GM wins and the ford girly men lose again!

you guys that posted what GMC stands for forgot: Greatest Mistake Created and Great Massa Crap...

More garbage from the general. Ram is the only choice for me. Love my non recalled 03 Dodge Ram 4x4. Love the looks,4x4 heritage, hemi power. Sounds awesome. It growls.

GM Will Pay $35 Million Fine Over Massive Safety Recall

By Bill Chappell on May 16th, 2014
The Department of Transportation is ordering General Motors to pay a record $35 million civil penalty for its handling of a recall of more than 2 million vehicles for ignition switch problems. The government says GM violated federal safety laws.

It's a pity such a small vehicle recall is 'news'.

GM have themselves to blame. GM has created a reputation for itself and has to dig itself out of a hole it dug.

The spotlight will shine on them for sometime.

I bet the other manufacturers (especially Toyota) are enjoying to spotlight shifting to GM.

If GM's sales sour, someone can buy them out this time like Fiat did with Chrysler. And maybe GM can be given some direction like Chrysler has now.

GM has appeared to be behind the 8 ball for several years now. This might be the wake up call needed.

It's even headlines in Australia.

The 03 Ram did have recalls. Your particular 03 Ram may not have been recalled. Probably because they failed to fix anything that was wrong with it and just issued TSB's. (see below for the laundry list.) Bad business practices. I doubt your 11 year old truck has had no problems. You just ignore any issues or don't know any better.

http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2003-index.htm

@ Bob. Chevy increasing profits???

2014 1st quarter net profits:

Ford $989 million.

GM $108 million.

@Hemi V8, No recalls, maybe. But no 12 year old truck is perfect. I doubt yours ever was perfect and you won't admit to it. Recalls are for safety items. I bet yours has issues and defects that were never recalled.

"Ram is the only choice for me. Love my non recalled 03 Dodge Ram 4x4. Love the looks,4x4 heritage, hemi power. Sounds awesome. It growls."

Hemi, Good thing you have an older Ram. The new Rams have plenty of recalls and fire/electrical problems. What I find ironic about your pro Chrysler posts, is that our Chryslers have had the most electrical and wiring problems of any vehicle we ever had and the problems weren't recalls. Either you're not being honest or you're just hiding behind "my truck has no recalls."

Hemi, I know you love your 03 Ram, but are buying a new one?

Earlier you wrote,
"@Lou-BC, When Ford can make a vehicle without Fire Recalls I will consider owning one again. Until then I will continue to drive the Class Leading Ram brand."

Ram can't make a vehicle without fire recalls either. Is not having fire recalls still relevant?

@Hemi,
I guess you can't buy Ram, Chrysler or Jeep vehicles since they can't make a vhicle without a fire recall.

CHRYSLER GROUP LLC (CHRYSLER) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2013 DODGE RAM 2500 AND 3500 TRUCKS MANUFACTURED JANUARY 7, 2013, THROUGH MARCH 6, 2013. THE ENGINE COVER MAY TRAP AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF HEAT UNDER THE COVER.
Consequence:

THE EXCESSIVE HEAT UNDER THE ENGINE COVER MAY RESULT IN AN UNDER HOOD FIRE.

Vehicle Owners Facing Long Delays To Get Safety Recalls Fixed

Moses faced a similar situation with her Jeep Liberty.

“They turned me away because there were no parts,” she told CBS4.

Moses got a recall notice for the fuel tank on her vehicle. The notice says “small chance of experiencing a fuel leak during certain rear end collisions … can result in an underbody fire.”

Ram delays fixing recalls
http://denver.cbslocal.com/2014/04/28/vehicle-owners-facing-long-delays-to-get-safety-recalls-fixed/

That’s no help for Kupec, who says that he’ll have to trade in his trucks if he can’t get them fixed soon.

“They could have had the parts out right away … and had these trucks fixed as they started sending out the recall notices. That would have been the thing to do,” Kupec added.

I've owned both ram and ford with in the past 5 years and I have to say I miss my chevy and everything about it. I bought in to the government motors thing a while back and I was a fool. My chevy 6 years old at the time had nothing wrong with it what so ever and I never did anything to it. Now I've had a 2009 ram 4.7 and it was knocking so I traded it for a 2012 f150 ecoboost and I've had problems with the back up camera flashing on and off and staying engaged while in drive I had it go into limp mode twice I've had to replace the water pump and have had to have the turbo replaced because it wasn't spooling correctly. Granted all under warranty but my warranty expires in 3400 miles and recall or not I'm planning on switching back to chevy or maybe a gmc

I checked out the new chevy truck when it came out and the only thing that impressed me was the rear step bumper. The rest of the truck does nothing for me and doesn't exceed any of the competition at all or meet some of the competition. All that time to bring out a new truck and cant even meet or beat the competition. FAIL IMO. i could care less about their recalls.
My friend's chevy sounds like a box of bolts about to fall apart, plus he has 3 lights on in the dash, parking brake, abs and something else, he just ignores em and keeps on driving. he is seriously considering buying a tundra since my 2010 double cab flys down the sandy beaches and chopped up dirt sandy roads in mexico quietly and with stability at high rates of speed. That 5.7 rips it ! Wait till i put on the 2015 trd pro bilsteins front and rear.

for the idiot that says GM makes more profits, i hardly see any of the new chevy or gmc trucks here in phx az. and there are a lot of trucks here. Forgot to mention how over priced they are also. GM thinks they made a great vehicle. well the buyers are voting with their $$$ and they are not buying this junk here in phx

@ cmon Ive seen a total of 2 so far. Agreed love my Tundra. If you ever see the Black no chrome 07 regular cab Tundra terrorizing all the other truck makes in the Valley of the Sun. That would be me!!!

@DON HAHAHA Ford Girly Girlys eh? haha and the 2015 is fresh unlile the Silverado facelift, hahaha good luck with you twin trucks, gm should get rid of one lol

least the 2015 F-150 looks cool, and not stupid gm bull crap

Nobody should debate profits with GM, they wiped out the first quarter with all the recalls they have had, and just wait until the next fine comes that one will hurt, I think the other fine for Toyota was in the billion dollar range

GUTS

GLORY

THE NEXT TRUCK I WILL BUY WILL BE A

HEMI RAM

This is just another article to confirm you have better taste than that required to buy a 2014 Silverado. That new model Silverado can't come soon enough.

@ Todd, will keep an eye out for ya. I live in south tempe. Have a 2010 white dbl cab trd wheels painted black no stickers. Rock warrior so no chrome, black tube side steps NFab. Level kit in front the bilstein 5100s. Great Truck, 50K zero issue truck. Had two dogs (dodges) before the tundra, no dodge for me again. I'm sure the new ones might be better but don't want to take the risk, especially at their prices even after they knock 25% off. The new tundra doesnt impress me enough to switch. This tundra could well be another 10+ yr truck like my tacoma was in the 90s.

Then I'll drive it off a cliff.

2006 Chevy HD, 340,000 miles and still going strong. GMC, Greatest Machine Created!

@greg - in your case GMC = 'G'reg 'M'ade-up 'C'rap

GM recalls may continue through mid-summer: Expert

More American recalls! Japanese manufacturers pour the most money into the making of a vehicle where it counts the most, the engineering.

This is particularly true of the engine and drive train of their vehicles. Thats why with regular maintenance, they last 3 or 4 time as long as a Ford GM or RAM product and that helps push the resale values up.

They also excel in materials used, craftsmanship and fit and finish. A big part of the problem is the American manufacturers are hamstrung by unions thats sap their financial resources dry paying for insane salaries, unreasonable benefits packages, and userous retirement plans.

The more I read about the problems with the GM's the more I love my F-150, the more glad I am of myself that I picked the F-150 over the GM.
Sure am happy when I walked into that Chevy Dealer last year and they treated me like dog dirt giving me a good reason not to buy one.
I always figured the salesmen had to work harder and turn up the charm and being extra friendly to sell a vehicle nobody wants, but I guess that's not true. They use salesmen that smell like they didn't bath or use deodorant for a month, talk in broken English and look down when they talk to you.

On TV news this morning, "GM will have recalled more cars/trucks this year then it sells". A quote. No good for profits if you have any math skills.

Not sure how BoB thinks "Chevy wins". That saying has been used a number of times over few years yet where "who wins" is shown in sales and profit margins. I don't see a GM truck on the top of that list in 20 plus years, so where's the winning happening?
As far as "aluminum panels" used on cars/trucks? Folks whether you know or not, it has been used for many many years already on other non Fords. Look it up. Think even Jaguar has been doing it awhile. Don't hear the world coming to an end in doing so.

@superscrew02 - is right I mean even Jaguar has been using aluminum panels for a while. If there is anyone you want to model yourself after it is Jaguar...

http://forums.audiworld.com/archive/index.php/t-1737364.html

If a company like Jaguar that builds a handful of cars a year can do it so can Ford under mass production...

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/08/15/us-autos-jaguar-usrecall-idUSBRE97E0NQ20130815

I mean whenever I think of Ford the first thing that comes to mind is F$ck'n Jaguar....

http://www.gtspirit.com/2013/08/18/jaguar-recalls-over-3000-vehicles/

Chevy and GM needs magnetized bumpers so they could pick up the parts that fall off and install heaters in the tailgates so your hands don't get cold pushing it home.
