J.D. Power Study Shows Ford, Honda and Ram Buyers Are Happiest

13F150-Lariat_02_HR II

The annual J.D. Power Automotive Performance Execution and Layout (APEAL) study attempts to gauge how well new vehicle owners like their car or pickup truck in 77 different areas. Of course, this is very different than J.D. Power's other studies that attempt to assess 90-day initial quality and three-year vehicle dependability. As you might imagine, opinions vary across the automotive spectrum but the 2014 results for those interested in pickup trucks are interesting.

In the pickup categories, the vehicles with the highest rankings were the Honda Ridgeline (Midsize Pickup), the Ford F-150 (Light-Duty Pickup) and the Ford F-250/350 Super Duty (Heavy-Duty Pickup). It's also worth noting that the highest-ranking brand that makes a pickup is Ram, falling between automotive brands Hyundai and Volkswagen, with a score well above the non-premium brand average score.

@zviera - Ram trucks make more people happy when compared to cars.
"It's also worth noting that the highest-ranking brand that makes a pickup is Ram, falling between automotive brands Hyundai and Volkswagen"

So when I'm cross-shopping VW or Hyundai, I'll make sure I take a look at Ram cars too......... er....... trucks.

If one looks at JUST trucks Ford came in first..............

How's therapy working out for you?

@Hemi V-8--I hope you are not setting any fires. My point was you had one bad experience with a Ford product and you keep telling all of us over and over about it. I witnessed a company car back in 1978 catch fire but I do not repeat that experience. You have a right not to like Fords, but that is enough. I have had three Ford products and none of them have combusted into flames. The last Ford we had for 13 years and I never saw a flame. I have seen some Fords with custom paint jobs that included flames but they were not real. Maybe you need to seek professional help to help you over come the flame phobia.

@jeff S. I know it gets old to me too. The Ram bashers come in and tell me how great they are bashing on my brand. So i have valid reasons why i don't and won't buy a Ford today or tomorrow. Look at the post history and tell me who starts the bashing. Ford has had a very long history of Fires. Just three years ago they were burning on the assembly line. I believe they have had two or three fire recalls on F series a lone since i bought my 03 Ram and many more on other Ford models. The past is the past but ford keeps continuing to have Fire Recalls.
So am i bull $%!^ing anyone or making things up? NO!The facts are the facts sorry if that offends the kool aid crowd. I hope you don't think these deadly fires are nothing to be concerned about. That could be a deadly mistake.

FORD EXPEDITION SUSPECTED IN FATAL OHIO HOME FIRE

Is there a time bomb in your garage?A 2002 Ford Expedition parked in a homeowner’s carport is suspected as the cause of a fire in Madison County, Ohio that killed a woman and her two children. The Columbus Dispatch reported that the origin of the fire has been narrowed to a 10-foot space in the carport although investigators have not yet determined the cause.Peter Romans, who survived the fire that killed his wife and children, told investigators that the fire started in his parked Ford SUV, according to the news paper. The fire killed Billi Romans, 51; Ami Romans, 16; and Caleb Romans, 12. Their bodies were found near the back door of their house,Peter Romans, 47, escaped with minor burns and smoke inhalation. The 2001 Ford Expedition suspected of igniting the fatal blaze was included in the Ford Motor Company recall of 9.6 million vehicles equipped with a faulty cruise-control switch. the switch can “lead to a vehicle fire at any time,” according to the National Highway Traffic...

"The family of a man who died when his Ford caught fire and set his house ablaze has filed a lawsuit against the automaker claiming the particular model should have been recalled but was not."

Ford and Chevy club just do some homework on your brand before bashing Ram.

Well, that's exactly what I posted. So what are you arguing about?

RAM

The only reason I bought and own a F-150 is because the people I know and hate their guts own either a Ram or a Chevy.
I like the Ram better than the Ford but a guy I know that I hate owns a Ram so I don't want him to think that I want to be like him and own the same truck he owns.
I don't want to honor and respect him by owning the same vehicle he owns!
you know what I mean?

I don't hate Ram and Chevy pickups I just hate the people I know that drive them.

@ Tom#3 - seriously?
Ever consider moving to a town that doesn't have "Duelling Banjo's" as their anthem?

@zviera - you just explained the point I keep trying to make. Ram does well when compared to CARS but comes in 2nd or 3rd when compared to TRUCKS.

If you want to debate cars, PUTC has a sister site called cars.com.

Since we are here to talk trucks............. how did Ram compare to the F150 or F250 or F350?

Spin your Ram Jihad any way you want, Ford TRUCKS not CARS rated higher than Ram.

Sucks to be you...............

or maybe not................

a preference for being dazed and confused is how most addictions start.

@Hemi V8--The important thing is to be happy with what you have, but don't go overboard on being a fan boy. I have owned enough different brands to have good and bad models on the same brand. I have owned two Ford products that were excellent and another that was junk. I have owned one Chrysler that was very good and several Chevrolets that were very good. I have learned that preventative maintenance and not abusing a vehicle provides a more satisfactory ownership experience. I usually get more than 10 years out of my vehicles and have been overall satisfied with most of my vehicles. My oldest vehicle is a 99 S-10 extended cab pickup that runs and looks like new after over 15 years of ownership. We had a 2000 Ford Taurus for 13 years that ran and looked like new and which I would still have but my wife had the new car bug. We are not disappointed at all with the 2013 AWD Honda CRV but I do miss the Taurus.

Papa jim does bring a valid point about long run customer satisfaction in that it can take a few years to work out bugs on a newer vehicle that in the short term make a vehicle appear to be troublesome but in the long run that particular vehicle can become very reliable. I have had a few of those vehicles that have become some of the best ones I ever had in the long run.

RAM is a brand, they make pickup trucks.
Volkswagen is a brand , they make cars and trucks (not for NA)
Ford is a brand, they make cars , suv and pickup
GM is a brand, they make cars, suv and pickup

RAM as a brand won over GM and Ford which includes cars , suv and pickups in

you better buy RAM.

you make this way too easy, you really do...............

Thank you for pointing out that Ram trucks direct competitor is not Ford trucks but Ford SUV's.

@Lou
I didn't say that.
People with RAM nameplate are more happy than people with Volkswagen, GM and Ford nameplate.

Look at J.D powers website and looks at the most reliable vehicles it's not a ford or ram. Just saying I was just reading about it and it showed the top 3 gm honda and toyota. I think this article is more about sales then reliability. Only reason I'm saying this is because it seems like everyone is just arguing about which is the best truck and in my book the most reliable is the best truck.
